1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2019 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 08/14/2023

The vehicle starting stalling, check engine light would come on, and the vehicle would slipped into “limp mode” while traveling on the freeway. I was amount in two auto collisions because of the vehicle slowing down in the middle of the highway. The problem started in August 2023 and was towed to the dealer on one occasions and towed to my home on another occasion. The dealer ran a diagnostic and said it was the brand new battery I had installed and then the catalytic converter. After repairing both; the vehicle proceeded to not drive over 30 miles per hour. The dealer said it was the engine and then said it was something else. I’ve expressed that the symptoms are those more aligned to the pcm issue recalled on 2019. A actual diagnostic report from auto zone supports this. The vehicle has also been inspected by another Mazda dealer and a stand alone mechanic.

The contact owns a 2015 Mazda Cx-5. The contact stated that while pressing the brake pedal the engine had experienced very high revving and the vehicle would lurch forward. The contact indicated that the failure was corrected for a while but recently the failure had reoccurred. The local dealer was contacted and a service appointment was scheduled. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 25,000.

3 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 03/12/2021

I find I have to put my foot down on the gas pedal to the floor to make it literally go at times. Ive heard this cloaking noise several times like its getting ready to conk out. The brakes seems to me don't stop as they should at times I have to go in hard on the brake pedal. The air conditioner does not blow cold an see where previous owner had same issue 2 yrs straight from looking the the service invoices that was left in the truck. The sensor detection does not always work to let me know car/person is around. Coleman taylor transmission informed me that this thing does have a issue, the rpm are not as they should be. When I took it back to kia gossett about the brakes the used mgr drove it made it seems there were no issues as well as norcross Mazda. Previous owner invoice show brakes were a concern as well. Had I known there was a prior recall on the pcm I would never bought this junk!.

4 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 03/06/2018

Check engine light and a/t warning light remain on. Unexpected issue does not appear to have any cause that is based on driver usage of vehicle. Oem blogs for various owners of this model appear to have similar issues. Manufacturer is charging customers to update the tcm and pcm codes on programming boards, for an issue it is aware of. Codes appear to arise randomly, and not as part of vehicle being in motion.

5 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 10/03/2016

Mazda cx 5 2013, has intermittent loss of power. Most noticeable when trying to cross the highway &/or merge into traffic. (scary) took it in for Mazda recall 8915k pcm, this did not fix the issue. Mazda service tech had same issue. (note I took it to a local ase certified shop where it did the same thing prior to taking to Mazda--which is why I took it to the dealer). So no solution and not safe to drive.

6 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

When driving slow, such as 10-15 mph , when one steps on the accelerator, nothing happen, if this is the middle, say a left turn, one can have an accident if you can not get any power. This starts off maybe once or twice a day and gets worse to10 or 15 incidences a day. I complained about this each time I took the car in for service. They said they could not duplicate. After almost a bad accident, I dropped the car off at the dealer and stated it is unsafe at any speed and to fix it. The recalibrated the tcm and pcm. They say it is now out of warranty and I paid a lot of money for the repair. It was trouble free for about a week and now up to its old habits and is slowly getting worse. There are other complaints on the internet from 2013. I know Mazda knows there is a problem but refuses to recognize it, so how many lives need to lost before they take responsibility for this dangerous situation. Please help!.

7 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 10/13/2012

While driving vehicle on frwy, started losing power fast. As if the engine turned off. At light, traction light, stability control light and check engine light came on. Pulled to side of frwy turned car off, sat there in disbelief. I then turned the vehicle back on - only check engine light stayed on. Had power as if nothing had happen diag found code p1738, p0847. Galpin Mazda called tech line and they were told to perform a reflash to the pcm. This happen again about 2 months later. But this time all warning lights turned off after restarting. I will mention it on my next service visit.

8 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Mazda CX-5

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

I was driving at the listed speed on the new jersey turnpike. Without warning, the vehicle went from sixth gear to fourth, rapidly losing speed in the far left lane. The tire pressure indicator light came on flashing, and the traction control light came on solid yellow. I pulled the vehicle onto the shoulder to check the tires, per the indicator, and noticed none of the tires was deflated. When I restarted the vehicle, the tire pressure and traction lights were solid yellow, along with the engine and "at" transmission light. While there was no noticeable effect on vehicle operation once restarted, I could not use the select-a-gear feature of my transmission. I was told at the dealership where I brought the vehicle that there were issues with the transmission control module, and that software updates were required. The vehicle was returned several days later, with the warning lights resolved, but told that they were uncertain as to whether it was a definitive fix. There have been no recurrences since the original incident.
