My Mazda 3 will not start. I took my vehicle to a Mazda dealership and they gave a me a description of my issue and resolution (my issue: battery cable shorted and split in half due to a defaut wire harness). I googled the part number and I noticed a recall on my car related to the same exact part. Recall # 09v12600 Mazda is now telling me my issue is not covered under the recall because my VIN does not show it has been recalled. My confusion is as follows; the issue is the same, the resolution is the same, the part number is the same, the vehicle is the same (model and year). I really need your help in resolving my issue. Mazda is charging $1400 for the fix, I am looking any help from nhsta please, to help resolve my issue and have my issue be covered under a recall. The recall states potential impact of 25. 400 vehicles (leaving the door open for more or less vehicles). I am lucky the short did not cause a fire, I need your help to ensure the issue does not occur again. Looking for any good faith thank you very much for you help. Jessica.

Driving 60mph on major freeway during rush hour, light rain. Check engine light came on and stayed on. A few minutes later, every warning light came on and I lost the power steering. I pulled to the side of the highway and turned the car of, waited 10 minutes and started the car. Check engine light remained on and all other warning lights were off. Started driving and 10 minutes later all the warning lights came on again and lost power steering again. Left vehicle in garage over night with hood up thinking it was due to rain/moisture/computer problem. Car started fine in morning, no warning lights. Took it to dealership and they said it was a lose battery cable. I am thinking it was more than that. I have noted my concern and will await the next heavy rain.

Issue: all electrical components along with power steering shutting off intermittently while driving. The first instance of this issue happened while turning into a parking lot. As I was making a right turn all the electrical components in my vehicle shut off, along with the power steering. About a second later everything came back on and operating normally. This same issue would happen intermittently, usually when making right turns. There was never enough of a pattern to say that it was happening every week or month, etc. I took vehicle to Mazda dealership and they diagnosed it as battery cables needing to be replaced, after it started happening more frequently a few months later. The issue stopped for a couple months, but then began again. This time it started happening just by tapping on the brakes as well as making a turn. All the electrical on the vehicle would shut off, along with the power steering again; and then it would come back after a second being off. This time it began happening much more frequently, at least a couple of times a week; most recently it happened again and this time my power steering was off for my entire 30 mile drive home from work. I took it again to a different Mazda dealership to have it diagnosed, and this time I was told they needed to change the battery, alternator and power steering pump for starters; but was not guaranteed that would resolve the issue as the techs had never seen this issue before at their site; they say they called their corporate tech line and were advised to replace those items first. I even showed them a video I had taken of this happening in my car one night as I drove around my block in order to document the issue. There is no pattern with regards to speed of vehicle, or whether the engine is cold or has been running for a while, as the issue can happen regardless of any of these conditions.

This is the 2nd time this car has refused to start. The "fix" was done by Mazda over the past summer due to a corrosion problem with the positive battery cable where it attaches to the starter. This time it is not under warranty. My concern is myself or anyone else getting stuck in freezing weather, icy conditions, or a bad part of town in the middle of the night. Mazda is aware of this problem and outlines it in a service bulletin 01-037/08. Should women or children, or anyone else be stranded and harmed in any way by this known defect, I hope Mazda is liable for not addressing this issue.
