2 Software problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/04/2019

While coasting, application of the brakes will make the headlights flicker. An ecu voltage monitor registers a drop in the voltage that lasts for as long as the headlights flicker which is approximately 3 seconds. Mazda is aware of this problem and apparently a software update to the ecu will solve it. They offered this for free under the 6yr/60k mile warranty but apparently did not tell their customers.

3 Software problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

This is in reference to a Mazda recall I received in the mail in 08/19. I own a 2016 Mazda3 and the recall notice was for the software/display console. I called hyman bros Mazda in newport news, va to make appt to get this fixed on 08/21/19 and was referred to the service dept. I made an appt and was seen on 08/28/19. I did not understand when I made the appt on 08/21/19 that this was not to repair my vehicle but to look and confirm that is what I needed. I took time off work for what ended up being a 5 min appt to confirm I did in fact need that part. However I am still waiting on that part. I have called weekly for a status update and the best the parts dept. Can offer me is that the part is on back order and not sure when it will come in. Meanwhile I am still driving my vehicle and the electronic display will intermittently not work. The navigation feature at times is not usable, other times it will auto dial numbers in my call history without my prompting or automatically jump from one radio station to another. I feel that it has become unsafe for me to drive. I would like to know how much longer I am expected to wait on a part from a nationwide recall to get my car fixed. I called 11 times since 08/19 and sent 2 email requests through the hyman bros Mazda website with no response. The 1st time I sent this query, I received an auto message on 09/11/19 stating they received my email and will be in contact with me shortly. That was over a month ago and I have yet to receive any response. The 2nd time I sent a query on 10/17/19 and again received an auto response stating they will be in contact with me but still nothing. On 10/22/19, the car auto-dialed 5 times and prevented me from hanging up. This was an accident waiting to happen as I was driving distracted trying to shut it off. I parked the car and disconnected the blue tooth feature from my cellphone.

4 Software problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

The infotainment system computer is on constant reboot loop. At first it would only occur when weather was very cold or hot. Then it started happening at least 75% of the time no matter the weather. I had Mazda dealership look at it prior to full warranty running out, they couldn't find an origin of issue and simply checked for software updates. It started happening more frequently and past full warranty so cant get looked at or diagnosed for free. A recall for the infotainment screen was notified to me and replaced at dealership but did not resolve the issue. When it reboots, it occurs for almost entire drive, making it along with all its features unusable. This is dangerous since the backup camera blacks out spontaneously when in reverse. The hands free driving, gps, music, and everything else relating to infotainment system is unable to be used. Many others have had this same issue and Mazda has not recalled the part. Because it turns off abruptly when backup cam and gps is in use, it is a major safety issue. It is generally also disappointing because a major factor in purchasing that year and model of Mazda was due to the awesome infotainment system, but before warranty expired and after I have been unable to use it 90% of the time.

5 Software problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/24/2018

Headlights pulsate when applying brakes. A technical service bulletin was issued. It is a software issue involving the alternator and re-calibrating the pcm. It happens every time you brake when the headlights are on.

6 Software problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/01/2017

Headlights flicker/pulsate when applying brakes. This is a well known issue with 2012-13 Mazda3 that requires a software update to remedy. Currently, Mazda is charging a minimum of $99 to diagnose the issue. Since the issue occurs in motion, I do not have photos, but I do have videos. Given that this is a safety issue caused by faulty software that only Mazda can update, there is no reason that owners should have to pay them to fix their own mistake. It's a scam, at best. . 7 Software problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/22/2017

Pcm does not regulate alternator output correctly causing the headlights to flash/strobe and horn tone to fluctuate while braking in motion. The headlights flashing could lead other drivers to believe you are signaling them, and lack of power to horn reduces the audibility and may not be heard by other drivers. Dealership/Mazda is aware of the issue and has provided a "software update" to fix the issue, but has not issued a recall, thus requiring consumers to pay $60-$100 usd for the update if out of warranty. On November 22th 2017 I was approaching an intersection and was braking coming to the red light when a vehicle on a side street waved at me and pulled out in front of me I used my horn of which fluctuated with power, I was able to avoid the crash but it was a close call. I suspect the other vehicle thought my flashing headlights were signaling them to "go ahead". I believe this needs to be a recall as this issue has the potential to cause serious injury or loss of life.

8 Software problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

When breaking from a speed of 35 miles per hour the headlights flicker to a very dim degree. It is nearly a strobe light. Apparently there is a software update fix for this from a TSB so why isn't this recalled? it is clearly dangerous and common.

9 Software problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/06/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Mazda 3. While driving 4 mph, the contact heard a noise inside the vehicle. The tire pressure light was illuminated; however, it functioned as designed and was not related to the failure. In addition, while driving various speeds, the sun roof failed to close, the vehicle vibrated and veered to the right numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the internal software malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

10 Software problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

I have had two continuous issues with my 2014 Mazda 3; the navigation system shuts down and then begin a cycle of continuously shutting down a rebooting and the heads up display at times does not pop up when I start the vehicle. The only way to stop this is to pull over, shut off the car and then start it back up again (this generally fixes both the navigation and hud issue, although these issues do not seem to be related as the have not occurred at the same time before. ) this certainly seems like a software issue as rebooting does fix the problem. This happened multiple times and mostly occurs at the end of long trips, when I need it most. In some instances this has led me to take wrong turns in heavy traffic or forced me to pull over in heavy traffic in order to figure out where I am going. Mazda needs to deal with these issues as they can pose a safety hazard to those following the navigation directions. As always do not depend solely on a navigation system, especially the one in the 2014 Mazda3. It will enter into a cycle of continually shutting down and rebooting when you need it most. I have brought my vehicle to a dealer to update the software to the latest version a few months ago, it did not fix the problem. I went to a dealer for a recent oil change I mentioned the problem and they did not even seem to know what the latest software version was or why I would want it updated. I hope that most dealers would update the software for a car under warranty when they complete an oil change, or at the very least know and make the customer aware a newer version of the software is out so an update can be scheduled. I plan to complete this update, but no one at the Mazda service center I went to was able to tell me what the update changed/fixed. I am highly disappointed in the vehicle's navigation and hud. Caveat emptor when buying a year one model.
