Car Will Not Start Problems of Mazda MAZDA3

Push button start malfunction, causing instrument panel to light up and behave erratically. Car obviously not safe to drive at that point. Shifting into reverse louder than normal and very noticeable jerk. Same result when shifting back to drive. Did not attempt any movement. Shut off engine. Waited several seconds, attempted restart, but engine would not restart. Instrument panel was lit up with a red key indicator light. Towed to dealer. Could not diagnose failure. Reset system, ran full diagnostic, no failure codes reported. Drove fine for 2 days, on 3rd day, problem repeated itself, car is now back at the dealer waiting on repair/diagnosis. Car was parked in home garage southern az on both occasions.

More that one problem with this vehicle. 1) it starts honking while driving, instrument panel and interior lights flash on and off, the car will only make right turns and will not restart when vehicle is turned off. Yesterday, it did it once again immediately as I turned right onto the city street from a parking lot. Luckily there was another parking lot entrance on the right, so I pulled in, parked and turned off the vehicle. It continued to honk, flash interior lights and instrument panel and ignition would not work nor crank. I tried to restart the vehicle several times over a five (5) minutes, when it finally restarted and I was able to get the vehicle home without it happening again. This vehicle has done this several times and it will start honking in the middle of the night while parked and off for no reason. There are times that as quickly as it started honking it will stop, other times, I must go attempt to turn vehicle on and eventually ignition will crank and engine will start. I have taken it to Mazda but they are not able to replicate the problem and tell me there's nothing they can do. I am worried I will not be able to turn one of these days and hit someone and get hit by someone else when the car decides it won't turn left. Not to mention if the car will not start while I am in a bad area and be harmed while waiting for the car to stop honking, flashing and refusing to crank and start. 2) when you put gear in drive, from either park or reverse, and take your foot off the brake the car accelerates and lunges forward without pressing the gas peddle. The first time it did it I almost hit a parked car! thankful I acted quickly and reapplied the brake. Now I allow enough space, as if I driving a truck and am ready to apply the brake. Dealership states nothing is wrong with it. Mazda needs to take these matters seriously. But it's going back!!.

The contact owns a 2010 Mazda 3. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start and was towed to the contact's residence. An independent mechanic came to the contact's residence and inspected the vehicle. The technician diagnosed that the main fuse had short circuited and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 09v126000 (electrical system); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

In addition, when the vehicle was started, the contact noticed a fuel odor emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. A few weeks ago, the low battery indicator came on indicating that I needed to replace my key fob battery. My car has a keyless ignition/ push-button start. I replaced the battery in each of my key fobs about a week later. After an additional week, my car will not start with either key fob. The dashboard states that the key is not found, even though I replaced both key fob batteries. I had to take the ignition cover off and insert the key to start the car. Mazda is charging me $100 just to get this looked at.

Car failed to start. Mazda sent tow truck. Tow truck operator was able to start the car in neutral. Tow truck operator declined to tow the car and sent driver home. Later that day the wheel locked, power brakes failed and driver rolled into a ditch. Driver turned off ignition, unlocked steering wheel, backed car out of ditch and called Mazda for another tow. The consumer stated the day of delivery, the salesman had trouble starting the car and requested a technician make some adjustment to the ignition. The wheel locked and the key would not start the vehicle. After the adjustments, the vehicle appeared to work fine. The dealer stated the vehicle would not start because a cable was bent, which was prohibiting the vehicle from being recognized in park when attempting to start it. Purchased vehicle on 7/09. On 1/6/10, vehicle failed to start, at first cranking with no engine start then complete discharge of systems (no cranking, no battery power whatsoever). Brought into dealership and was told "main relay" was defective and was the reason battery was not holding its charge. Relay was replaced. Same events again occurred on 3/3/10. Car remains in dealership for diagnosis & repair. Car remains inoperable when these events occur.

2005 Mazda 3s would not start. Mechanic reprogrammed the main relay and replaced fuel pump & gauge twice but problem persists. The fuel pump and gauge were replaced a second time but the vehicle still failed to start occasionally. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but they were unable to find the cause of the problem. Mazda tech support was called and the they suggested changing the fuel canister. It was replaced on June 22, 2006.
