1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

My Mazda3 dies while I am driving without any indication of what is going on (no check engine light). When it does, I wait for a while and it will start back up again! my shop and I have tried everything we can, but we can't figure out why it is doing that! I called the manufacture and they said it was recalled for power steering assist failure and fixed in 2010 but to us it sounds it is that issue causing it to stop while in motion! this car is unsafe!! no car should stop in motion from nowhere! the manufacture should be responsible for that!.

2 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA3

3 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/27/2019

While merging onto the highway and accelerating to highway speeds, the car lost power, the check engine light flashed, the traction light came on, and the check tire pressure came on all at the same time. The car also would not allow me to accelerate past 35-40 mph. After taking it to the dealership, it was determined that one of the four engine coils needed to be replaced. A month and half later, the same thing happened and another engine coil is needing replacement.

4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/18/2018

Purchased a brand new 2018 Mazda 3 2. 5l touring hatchback. I had only driven the vehicle as its new owner once, from the dealership back to my home, which was less than 20 miles, when the following occurred: I started the engine for my second trip with the vehicle, and noticed the check engine light was illuminated and remained illuminated. I drove the vehicle around the block and did not experience any unusual driving performance characteristics so I drove to my intended destination which was only 7 miles away. When I started the engine to make my way back I noticed that now five warning lights were illuminated and remained illuminated, which corresponded to the following warning guidances: an engine system malfunction, a dsc malfunction, a tpms system malfunction, along with two scbs malfunction warnings. When attempting to drive the vehicle, I found that the engine was clearly not running properly, as it jerked violently, surged, hesitated and at times seemed poised to stall. The vehicle was clearly unsafe for me to proceed on the road. As it was Sunday, I had to arrange on the next day for a tow truck to transport the vehicle to the nearest Mazda service center, which was not the Mazda dealership I had purchased the vehicle from. It took over a week for Mazda service center to determine I had a faulty throttle body, which had caused these problems and this was what needed replacement. Importantly, the service technician indicated that the warning lights indicating problems with this new Mazda were known previously by the original Mazda dealer before the sale transaction was completed: prior to the vehicle's arrival for service at Mazda service center, the warning lights and malfunction codes were previously cleared by the Mazda dealer, rather than addressing the issue or resolving it. This is fraud and corporate malfeasance on the part of the Mazda dealership.

5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/06/2018

Occasionally the engine will hesitate when accelerating, and then the check engine light, tpm, and stability control light will illuminate on the dash. Less frequently, the engine will occasionally stall while driving or while sitting at a stop light. The lights on the dashboard will remain illuminated, so I do not think it's a total loss of power.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/08/2018

There is a problem with the variable valve timing system causing reduced acceleration performance. The check engine light is displayed. This problem is exactly the same as the recall on Mazda3 vehicles manufactured between July 2011 and November 2011. The car lost acceleration and a vehicle behind me almost rear-ended my vehicle. For some reason Mazda is not recognising the recall on later models affected by the same issue. Mazda recall reference is 6511k. The recall should be expanded to cover additional vins.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/31/2017

While driving the car went into a complete stall. It continued to roll and the check check engine line, tire pressure, power steering light, traction control, key not present. The car didn't start right back up. The key had to be put to the start button before the car restarted. We immediately pulled off the road and parked. We left the vehicle and 2 hours later we restarted the car to determine if it needed towed. It started but the check engine light remained on at that time. Drove the car home and left it parked until we drove it to the dealership were they did diagnostics and couldn't duplicate the issue. We were sent home. Now we are not driving the car due to fear of random stall. There was a recall of madza 3 2016 but my car was not included. The info as follows NHTSA campaign: 15v621000, NHTSA campaign: 16v685000, NHTSA campaign: 16v684000. The dealership has not done anything at this time.

8 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

At light and check engine light come on. While driving on freeway hard shifts automatically from 5th gear down to a harsh 3rd gear. Cannot get at light to shut off, replaced solinoids, tcm, pcm and still cannot locate the issue. Car will not go past 3rd gear. Car is still under 80k miles.

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/18/2017

10 minutes after my check engine light went on my car lost power to accelerate. I pulled over as soon as this started and by the time I was able to get off the highway my car died at the top of the off ramp. At this point it began billowing white smoke out from under the hood, out the tailpipe, and into the cabin of the car. It was not blue nor did it have an oil smell. I was originally travelling approximately 70 miles an hour when I started to lose power and in the minute or two it took me to get to the off ramp and at the time the car died I was going less than 5mph. When taken to the shop they said that 3 of the 4 cylinders had 0 remaining power and the fourth only had around 1/8th of the power that it should have had. They said that oil and coolant remained in the car at proper levels. My car has been well maintained and, again, the fluid levels were appropriate. I had between 10 and 15 minutes between when the check engine light first went on and catastrophic, irreparable engine failure. The car itself had only 85,000 miles on it. Looking online I see many others, not just one or two hut hundreds, who have had nearly identical experiences with this exact make, model, and engine size. Yet Mazda, when called, stated that there was no recall and he hadn't heard anything about it, though others have expressed that they, too, contacted Mazda after this type of complete engine failure. Mazda's response was that it was out of the power-train warranty period and that there was nothing that they would be willing to do.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/24/2016

Cruise quit working, traction control light came on and shortly thereafter the check engine light came on. Then all the lights on the dash started flashing and went into limp mode. Car decelerated and I pulled over to the side of the road. Turned car off and then it wouldn't start. Waited about 10 min and restarted successfully with the check engine and traction control light still on. Drove another 70 miles going in and out of limp mode with dash lights flashing on & off. Took to dealer and replaced the angle (sp?) sensor in steering wheel. Dealer reset all codes and it's done it twice since getting car back, dealer can't figure out what's wrong. Have to go in and have the codes reset every time to get it back to running again.

12 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

I have been having issues with this vehicle ever since I purchased it from a dealership in woodbridge, va. The car's gears does not shift correctly and the engine continuously stalls. If I'm at a traffic light and the light switches from red to green the vehicle jumps as if it's going to cut off. My at light also came on and my check engine light comes on and off. Every time the vehicle's engine light is checked, it's because of "the thermostat" which I've seen many complaints from owners of the same type of vehicle. Although, the engine code is coming up as an issue with the thermostat, there's actually never an issue. I searched my VIN and its stating there are no open recalls for my vehicle, but I'm having the same issues as the open recalls for this particular make and model for 2007. I bought the vehicle October 2013 so there's no way Mazda could've sent me information pertaining to the recall and the dealership did not inform me of this either.

14 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

My wife was driving on the freeway - I was on the passenger side. This is the first time it happened. The car lost sort of reset itself - dash warning lights came on (according to my wife). Radio/cd stopped music - abs light went on (thats all I can see from passenger side). My wife said others too but she was focused on the road because it was a construction zone. She was nervous and said the car was not responding to throttle. Luckily all went back to normal after 2 or maybe 3 seconds. The music came back on also. No check engine light or any sign of trouble. We pulled over and I checked the front to see if we hit something that could have caused it. Restarted the car - all seemed normal and reached our destination. This was our first 200 mile trip or more on this car. 1 day after arrival - I did a once over safety check (fluids, tire pressure, etc) nothing out of the ordinary. Got my obd2 code reader and it had the following u3003 u0140 u0428. So I will take this to our dealer for checkup.

15 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/14/2014

Check engine light came on 12/13/14, car wouldn't start 12/14/14, had towed to repair shop 12/15/14 and was told engine was flooded because the car couldn't meter air correctly and over fueled the car. Spark plugs, air filter and throttle body were all gummed up and dirty due to this. Repair shop checked the technical service bulletin relating to the check engine light and found that this is a a known issue. They had to modify a bracket and splice in new wire where it was rubbed through because of this defect. If this is truly a common defect Mazda should issue a recall on it and reimburse owners who have already had to have it fixed.

16 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/04/2014

I started the car and the check engine light came on. Shifted into gear the the "at" light came on. Brought it in for service and they need to replace the "trans valvebody". Looks like a recurring theme here. The car is a 2013 Mazda3 I grand touring hatchback that is only about 7 months old and has less than 7000 miles.

17 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/22/2013

On Friday 11/22/13 4pm I went to get my oil changed and car serviced. It was the end of the day & the technicians leave at 5pm. After I received my car at 5:10pm, I decided to take side streets to go pick up my brother, instead of taking the freeway. The car started slowing down and eventually stalled in the middle of the intersection. The engine light and the traction control system (tcs) turned on. I got to the side & called the Mazda tuttle-click in irvine, CA service center. He told me since the engine light wasn't blinking that it wasn't a serious problem & call again or take it back tomorrow morning if it started blinking. I took the car out again & immediately the check engine light started blinking. I stopped in a parking lot & called again. They eventually agreed to take the car back to run diagnostics. On 11/25/13 I called back to ask if my car was ready to be picked up. They said they were waiting for a transmission valve part to come in. If this isn't related to human error and it was pure coincidence, then that's a big coincidence. Also, the car would've stalled on the freeway on my way back to san diego if I hadn't gone to pick up my brother.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/15/2013

While driving down the highway the vehicle all of a sudden lost power and began to slow down. The traction control light turned on at this time. Pushing the accelerator did nothing. When I switched the manual mode for the transmission the gear was not displayed on the dashboard and trying to up or downshift did nothing. After pulling off to the side of the road I was able to place the transmission in park. I lifted the hood and checked for fluid leaks or spills of which there were none. After turning off the car and waiting a couple of minutes I turned it back on and now had the traction control, at, and check engine lights lit. After putting the transmission in drive and pushing the accelerator the vehicle was extremely sluggish in acceleration and would shift through the first four gears but at rpms much higher than normal. I was able to limp the vehicle home as the dealership was already closed. After letting the vehicle sit for 15 minutes or so I turned it back on and now only the check engine light is lit. Will be taking to the dealer in the morning.

19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/09/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda3. The contact stated that on three occasions while driving between 30-35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stopped without prior warning. The check engine light and power steering light both illuminated after the failure. The contact replaced the battery but the failure occurred again. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. The VIN was unavailable. The current mileage was approximately 35,550. The failure mileage was approximately 35,510.

20 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/16/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Mazda 3. While driving at 50 mph, the check engine light illuminated. The dealer diagnosed the failure as a sticking purge valve that had become clogged. The valve was replaced and the failure codes were reset. The failure mileage was 32,571 and the current mileage was 33,000.

21 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/13/2007

While driving on a residential road, at a low speed, changing gears from 2nd to 3rd, the car stalled. Upon trying to restart the car, it wouldn't turn over. After the car was pushed off of the road, there was a puddle of oil left behind. Realizing that the car wasn't going to restart, it was towed to a local repair shop. After being put up on the lift, it was discovered that the rod slammed into the engine blocking, seizing the engine. There should have been no reason for the rod to crack on a well maintained engine, on a 2004 vehicle. In order to get this car back on the road, the engine will need to be completely replaced. I don't see any recalls on this make and model, and I truly feel that there was something compromised with the vehicle, in order for this to happen. The oil was changed just 5k miles before. There were no check engine lights on. . . We are very upset about this news and are hoping Mazda has experienced other problems such as this one.

22 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/27/2007

Plague with fuel system problem. 1st time check engine came on, when car reached 44,000 miles. I took it to dealer, they ran a diagnostic, and replaced the O2 sensor. Warranty covered. 2nd time check engine came on at 51,000 miles. Dealer replaced 2 of the fuel injectors. When car reach 85,000 miles, engine started sputtering when I pressed gas pedal, engine just dies on the street. This time dealer said fuel pump might be bad. So we got it replaced for $800. When car reach 100,000 miles I had fuel line cleaned from fuel tank to the fuel injectors, and replaced spark plugs. At 105,000 miles check engine light came on again. I took car to autozone parts and had it read. The code says, p2004 (variable tumble shutter valve stuck open). The next day I was going take it to a local auto repair shop and have it looked at, but on my way the check engine light wasn't lit anymore, so I drove straight to work. 3 days after, check engine light came on again, so I just ignored it. And 2 days later, it disappeared. All these time, since I bought my car I never missed a regular maintenance, I. E. , oil change, air filter change, flushed fluids. The car has gone through tire replacement, new brakes pads, new battery. Right now, the check engine light is not lit.

23 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/12/2007

2005 Mazda 3 with 30k miles. About a month ago the car started hesitating while driving and then stalling when stopped. The check engine light came on. Brought it to the dealer and they indicated it was the oxygen sensor, which they replaced later in the week. It's been three days now and I'm experiencing the same problem. Check engine light came on again. I'll give dealer one more chance to diagnose and fix the problem or I'll try someone else.

24 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/18/2005

The lights on the console keeps popping on. First it was the air bag light that took 4 unsuccessful visits to the dealer. That problem subsided? and now the engine light is popping on. . .
