1 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/26/2010

I own a 2004 Mazda 3 hatchback that I purchased new. The car has 74,000 miles on it and has been maintained faithfully by Mazda technicians. Driving home from work, the car caught fire. To reiterate, the car caught fire. Had my wife not noticed, and had we parked the car in the garage, it would have burned down the house with us in it. We managed to put the car out and took it to the Mazda dealership. The technician told us the air conditioning compressor froze and the belt caught fire from the friction; this then ignited plastic splash guards under the vehicle. All total - $1500 in damage. The technician stated the compressor should not have caused a fire, and in fact this was the first time he had seen anything like it. I contacted Mazda and asked them to recompense the damage from the failed compressor and the fire, and they refuse to assist me (or even acknowledge that one of their products' spontaneous combustion is a problem), or compensate me. I am less concerned about compensation than I am concerned that there are thousands of these cars on the roads, being driven by families, waiting to catch fire and burn. This needs to be addressed and addressed quickly before someone loses their life. There have been no recalls or even warnings from Mazda that this is a potential problem. Please, I am asking that the NHTSA assist in doing something before this potentially fatal manufacturer defect costs someone their life. 2 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

I own a Mazda3 2006. The following are issues that have occured since I've owned the vehicle and I wanted everybody to be aware of them: 1) the dashboard clock was incorrect. It would lose time every day and started going back in time. Was fixed under warranty. 2) the tires have had to be replaced often. Not sure why they wear out so fast, but I stopped using the goodyear tires that came with the car and go with longer lasting tires. 3) the tire pressure measurement device on the front right tire was defective. It was incorrectly telling me I had a problem. Took numerous visits to the dealersihp but was fixed under extended warranty. 4) the right engine brack under the hood was loose. They happened to find it while fixing another issue. Was never caught in that "full circle inspection" they claim they do. Again, fixed under extended warranty. 5) the temperature coolant hose was not properly working. It was not closing. This caused the "check engine" light to come on. Fixed under extended warranty. 6) the rug under the gas pedal was ripping easily and was moving under the pedal. Took to dealership and they repaired the rip. Never did get a new rug though, its a little bent but issue hadnt occured since.

4 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/07/2009

2005 Mazda 3s with only 39k miles broke down with heavy smoke, near fire, fortunately at dia airport. Towed to local denver Mazda dealer, who diagnosed a seized a/c compressor. Contacted Mazda national customer care, who covered the $1k cost of the new compressor, with me picking up the labor. Out of warranty, barely; this kind of thing should not happen for a young vehicle, original owner, with pampered preventative mnx per schedule. I do appreciate the fact Mazda stepped up to compensate a majority of the repair cost. I continue to be very annoyed at the poor brake design, that squeals most of the time, using oem parts, especially in reverse in colder temps.

5 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/01/2008

I was driving my 2005 Mazda 3 to the dealership to get it serviced, engine noise, and it caught fire less than a block from the dealership. . Mazda stated that they are not at fault even though my car is still under warranty. .

6 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/11/2008

2005 Mazda 3 air compressor goes out, lines fry under hood after doing some research on the issue on the internet, I found that many individuals are having the same issue under 60,000 miles and the a/c never works to maximum output. Contacted Mazda and while they say they are aware of the problem, no recall has been proposed, therefore I was redirected to this site. Contacted Mazda over a year ago under the advice of 2 mechanics who insisted this incident should not happen to such a young car. They said I'm lucky there was no fire since all my lines nearly fried and Mazda needs to be made aware, especially after my mechanic did his own research on my behalf and seem to agree this is too common. I have been following up with Mazda's customer care and while they are empathetic, there's no solution for anyone experiencing this issue. Last spoke to jennifer at Mazda x1170 on 6-29-29 who suggested I fill out this form! thank you for your time and help.

7 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/06/2004

The a/c on my new car does not cool the car to any comfort level. . I sweat in the heat with the ac on. It doesn't cool the car inside. I had it checked by my Mazda dealer they said it is up to the maufactuer's standards. I told them that I have difficulty accelerating with the ac on when passing at 40mph the car would not move it dragged. I had to flloor the gas pedal on a majorr interstate to move from 40-60,from too slow to too fast. I had seconds to move or get killed. The ac does not work and the service managerr told me I have too small an engine and that I should have gotten the larger engine the( 2. 3) yet they deny anything wrong with the ac system. The ac hasn't worked since I bought it in may I noticed it in July. It took three weeks for the dealer to get back to me about an appt. Please ignore the hood equipment added below( nothign addded after car was sold) could not remove equipment added in this report.
