Front Seat Power Adjust Problems of Mazda MAZDA3

The power seat lift and lower mechanics have failed so that the seat no longer raises or lowers to its original extent. This prevents the driver of the vehicle from adjusting the seat properly for safe driving. The actuator, fuses, and wiring are all functional and the mechanical components simply no longer allow full range of motion regarding seat height even with manual adjustment. I believe the mechanical components simply failed and am not aware of any specific cause. I am 6'3'' and my wife is 5'4'' and seat height adjustment is critical to safe driving.

The brace that connects the bottom of the set to the mechanism that pivots as the height of the seat is adjusted had a weld that failed / cracked. This seems very similar to the 17v082000 NHTSA campaign that effected the same model year car, except this is a power seat instead of a manual seat. The part that failed is in the same location of the seat frame and appears to serve the same purpose that was recalled under 17v082000. The result is the same, the seat is becoming detached from the frame and inclines making it difficult to maintain a safe driving position.

The seat lifter link on my 2013 Mazda 3 power seat has a broken weld that allows the drivers seat to wobble front to back. The weld has opened up showing the motor shaft. When you accelerate the seat moves back and feels like it will separate from the frame. Called local Mazda dealer and they have no recall on this and my warranty does not cover this. Vehicle has 187,400 miles. Found online that there was a previous issue in the 2010 - 2011 vehicles. Mazda had a recall campaign 0917b for that issue. Apparently there is still an issue with defective welds in the seat frame. First noticed this condition after accelerating to enter the interstate highway. Has gotten worse in the last two weeks.

The contact owns a 2010 Mazda 3. The contact stated that a portion of the power seat separated from the tracks. Cochran Mazda of north hills (10855 perry hwy, wexford, PA 15090) stated that there was no recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the power seat was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 127,300.

The contact owns a 2010 Mazda 3. The contact stated that the driver's seat failed. The vehicle was undergoing routine maintenance at napleton Subaru Mazda inc (1555 east rand road arlington heights, illinois 60004, phone: 847-255-5700). The driver's seat was inspected due to feeling loose while driving. It was discovered that the driver's seat linkage failed. The contact was informed that the driver's seat was a power seat and not manual; therefore, the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v082000 (seats). The recall only included the manual seats. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 34,355.

Drivers seat broke from frame rails. First the plastic push pin scews that attaches power seat to height adjustment rails snapped, collapsing one side of drivers seat. Then the frame rail on that side snapped into pieces. When traffic light turned green, I started forward and seat collapsed on my left side, then I heard a pop and seat flipped back, almost causing me to crash. When I took car to Mazda service, the techs showed me dozens of Mazda cars in service bays with the same problem. I was told this goes back to 2002. Mazda japan states: we acknowledge the problem, but Mazda seats are not made for large american bodies, but for the average smaller, lighter and delicate japanese person. In Feb,2017, Mazda issued a recall on some cars for the seat frame collapsing, but my car and most other Mazda cars are not included in this recall. Please check out any Mazda service dept. And ask for records of snapped front seat frames and seat frame screws popping out , collapsing the seats. Please require Mazda weld in new frame rails and install correct number of seat attachment screws, and or replace seats assemblies with ones that don't break from normal usage. Without a recall Mazda charges over $1100 to replace power seat frame, with no guarantee the replacement frame wont break when you seat in car the first time because that's how Mazda builds the seat frames! that's tragic.

Power driver seat frame cracked. The plastic push pin screw holding seat frame to frame snapped off. The seat is ready to break off from chassis mount. This is a common problem with all Mazda's sub-standard seat frame mounts. Recall issued for manual seat frame, but not for the powered seat frame.

Power driver seat rocks fore and aft during acceleration and sudden braking. Approx. 1/2" play. The movement is very noticeable and disconcerting. I fear that I may lose control of the vehicle. Dealer insists condition is normal.
