1 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/11/2016

The driver seat of my car unexpectedly detached from seat mount during normal use, the driver seat fell backward on to the back seat, leaving my car non-functional. For safety reasons, I had my car towed to the dealership, a distance of approximately 25 miles. I was pleased that the service rep made an effort to check to see if there were other similar repairs reported. He told me that there were none found. However, later I found out that there were forty-nine other consumer complaints made to your office, NHTSA, regarding the driver seat in this same make, model and year Mazda. I hope that the office of defects investigation (odi) considers opening an investigation to remedy the defect in this group of vehicle, and, the unreasonable safety risk it has on public safety.

2 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/04/2016

While driving my 2011 Mazda 3 grand touring hatchback I heard a loud snapping sound. Upon hearing that sound. I practically wound up in the back seat. It appears that either a weld broke or a bolt snapped somewhere at the bottom in the back of the seat on the right. I almost lost complete control of my car. Luckily I still had a firm hand grip on the wheel to pull myself up. This could have been an extremely dangerous situation. The manufacturer should have a recall on this problem immediately before someone gets killed.

3 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2012 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/17/2015

My car was t-bone, it should not have been driven. My daughter was made to drive the damaged car home instead of using a tow truck to take it to the nearest body shop. The suspension was bent completely inwards (doughnut tire was used to drive the car home with a bent suspension). I was told by the insurance company to drive the car to the nearest shop they do business with, and I did. I asked the supervisor/adjuster to total the car before ever seeing the internal damage. I knew the car could not be repaired back to the way it was, almost new condition. We went back and forward about totaling the car. He refused to total only after pleading with him, he agreed to do so. After seeing the car stripped from lid of trunk, tires off, I saw the right tire completely bent inward. I was told it was supposed to be that way. I told the adjuster I did not want the car that it is destroyed, again I asked him to total the car. He said no, the car could be repaired. I was assured by the body shop owner that he would repair it back 100%. He did not. The shop kept my car approx. 2 months from the 15 days promised to be fixed. I picked up the car on 6/24/15. My daughter and I examined it and the back seat pulled away from the back and base of the seat; would not stay locked down. It pulled completely away from the back, out, and up; tail lights did not work; suspension was unbalanced, the car pulled left. The right suspension was lower about 5/8" lower than the left suspension; nail in tire which made the tire sensor light stay on; car smelled offer inside; it was not washed before given back to me; paint had dripped and dried up at the base of the car where repair work had been done; right door did not align; back panel did not align; suspension was not coated, left to rust out; radio had beeping sound when changing stations; my daughter has 13 month old who rides in the car.

4 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

The bracket which holds the drivers seat to the frame is broken. Seat rocks back and forth during driving. This is a very dangerous flaw in manufacturing and if I'm in an accident my seat will end up in the back seat making my seat belt useless. I see many complaints about this defect. Please make this a recall for Mazda. A very expensive fix otherwise.

5 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

The front driver's seat should be fastened to the slide adjuster with four push nuts (two per side), but earlier VIN numbers are missing push nuts either from wear or because Mazda did not include them in the original design. Because the push nuts are missing, the seat freely rocks back and forth. The rocking can be so extreme that the entire seat rotates backwards onto the rear bench. This is extremely unsafe for at least two reasons: 1) if the airbag were to deploy in an accident, the force would knock the driver and seat backward rather than absorb the impact of the driver's body; and 2) if the seat suddenly rocked backward while driving, the driver could lose control of the vehicle. Mazda describes the issue in TSB 09-049/10, but purports that the issue merely produces a "rattle noise. " but the seat doesn't just rattle, it also hinges all the way into the back seat as described above.
