1 Tire problem of the 2024 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/09/2024

215/45r18 89v I bought a new 2024 Mazda 3 sedan sport for my senior college son on 12/28/2023 in rockville, maryland. In the evening of may 9, 2024, during our attending my son's graduation in nashville, tennessee, on the highway to hotel, the front right tire was suddenly blowed out (air leaking quickly and completely). There was nothing on the highway, no object and no pothole. The cars in the front of us were just fine. My son only drove several thousand miles. We were very scared and our safety was threatened. My insurance geico helped us to replace it with spare tire. We went to a local tire store at nashville to replace the tire with bri turanza el440, and the new tire cost us $352. 01. Our local Mazda dealer at rockville maryland asked us to contact toyo for tire warranty, but nothing happened. We have kept the receipt. By the way, I googled new Mazda3 tire problems, and I found multiple complains on line. . Read more...

4 Tire problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/23/2018

December 6, 2018 dear NHTSA, I have a 2011 Mazda 3 with four (4) westlake rp18 205/55r16 91v radial touring tires. I am writing this letter to notify the company that at least this lot of tire or this tire line is structurally defective. I have attached pictures on page 2. There are several implication to this defect including bending of tire shield, easy punctuation and easy blow-out. All of these instances can lead to traffic accidents and even death. For instance, recently road obstructions punctured both of my 2 back tires. These tires were flat within 30 minutes while I was out shopping and a 20 minutes driving distance from my home. I purchased a foot air pump to put enough air in my tires to travel one block away to the auto shop to replace both tires. Furthermore, I drove at speeds on the highway at less than 20 mph (miles per hour). At the store they removed the tire and identified the obstructions, however, the tires exploded very easily. These tires can be purchased from wal-mart and amazon for $44. 24 each or $176. 96 for 4 tires online. I think these tires should be recalled and this matter pursued vigorously particular because of the upcoming 2018 holiday travel season. On October 16, 2018, I mailed a correspondence letter to tireco inc. , super-representative of westlake tire. The letter is listed above. This mail was certified with the united states postal service under code: 7018 0680 0000 5488 3046. I have not received a response from the company. As stated above, I believe these tires are structurally defective and need to be recalled. Sincerely, christina dreyton.

8 Tire problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/18/2013

3 miles from home the front tire on our Mazda3 came apart in 3 full pieces, two side walls and the center, causing $1800 in damage. I returned the tire to yokohama tire corp. Because of the damage, they said it was not the tires fault, they called it a run flat and that they would not pay for the damages. So while the car was at the body shop I had four new tires installed ,not yokohama tires. Also the adjuster for my insurance company, said that he never seen a tire separate like that.

9 Tire problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/14/2011

Tires cupping and wearing quickly on inside of both tires in the same manner. Research and discussion with mechanics indicate the issue is likely due to camber. Camber is within manufacturer specifications, but causes extremely rapid tire wear.

10 Tire problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/29/2011

Purchased 4 new dunlop tires 205/50r17 for 2007 Mazda 3 2. 3l at odometer reading 39484. At 70115 miles, 3 of the 4 tires show separation of tread on the insides walls of both front tires and right rear tire. . . Is this a design flaw of the dunlop tire manufacturer or is the issue with Mazda design of wheel placement?.

11 Tire problem of the 2011 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 03/27/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Mazda Mazda3 equipped with dunlap sb sport 250 225/40/r18 tires. The contact stated that the inside of both front tires wore down prematurely and tore away. 12 Tire problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/20/2010

Had my Mazda 3 oil changed today and found out that it needed new tires - at just under 15,600 miles. I had these tires rotated at just under 6,000 miles and just under 12,000 miles. The defect is due to the alignment set at the factory, that causes the rear tires to "tilt in at the top" to improve handling. I am having to pay for (4) new tires and paying an extra charge to get the alignment set correctly. I will never buy another Mazda product. If this defect at not been found today, the way the rear tires looked, I possibly could have had a blowout over the next 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

13 Tire problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/07/2010

Our 2007 Mazda s 2. 3l 5 door sedan bought new came with goodyear eagle rsa 205/50r17 tires. We maintain this car well and regularly. March/April 2008 with 28,000 miles we experienced a tire failure. Thread separation, progressive hard flapping noise, and air pressure loss. Took it to goodyear tire and we were told the tire failed, thread separation, and another tire too had same problem. We bought two replacement new tires. Sept 2010 with 53,000 miles the other two original tires are failing same manner. Progressive loud flapping noise and pressure loss. The tires are worn but have plenty of thread depth, and we were told at goodyear a month ago they did not need replacement yet when we asked. It seems that these tires in this vehicle are failing rather than wearing out. So, I'm now off to goodyear to buy 2 new tires again!.

14 Tire problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/26/2010

2010 Mazda 3 excessive tire wear. Bought car new in sept 2009. July 2010 the car has 24,000 miles on it and all tires are worn out in patches and alignment needs to be done on all wheels. Ken towery considers this "normal on Mazda 3's". I use my car for commuting so mostly highway driving.

15 Tire problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 05/07/2010

2010 Mazda 3 excessive tire wear. Bought car new in oct 2009. May 7th 2010 the car has 18,000 miles on it and the rear tires are down to the steel belts. My net searching shows this is a very common problem. How a car can have only 18,000 miles on it and have dangerously worn tires is beyond belief. The dealership considers this "normal on Mazda 3's". Tires were well maintained with tire pressure by me. My car has never been in an accident or hit a significant road hazard. Car is used for mostly straight line highway driving.

17 Tire problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

I own a Mazda3 2006. The following are issues that have occured since I've owned the vehicle and I wanted everybody to be aware of them: 1) the dashboard clock was incorrect. It would lose time every day and started going back in time. Was fixed under warranty. 2) the tires have had to be replaced often. Not sure why they wear out so fast, but I stopped using the goodyear tires that came with the car and go with longer lasting tires. 3) the tire pressure measurement device on the front right tire was defective. It was incorrectly telling me I had a problem. Took numerous visits to the dealersihp but was fixed under extended warranty. 4) the right engine brack under the hood was loose. They happened to find it while fixing another issue. Was never caught in that "full circle inspection" they claim they do. Again, fixed under extended warranty. 5) the temperature coolant hose was not properly working. It was not closing. This caused the "check engine" light to come on. Fixed under extended warranty. 6) the rug under the gas pedal was ripping easily and was moving under the pedal. Took to dealership and they repaired the rip. Never did get a new rug though, its a little bent but issue hadnt occured since.

18 Tire problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/16/2010

The tires on my Mazda 3 5 door, were worn out by 17,000 miles. I belleve that to be excessive! if this kind of tire ware, was disclosed when I leased the car, I would not have!.

19 Tire problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/08/2009

Goodyear tire eagle rs tire in light snow / wet weather conditions, new 2009 Mazda 3 hatchback. Tires are totally inadequate in light snow conditions. I was unable to make a right turn while I attempted to slow down at 20mph. Car abs was activated but I still skidded almost hitting another car as it was about to pull out in front of me. I am forced to have to replace these tires.

20 Tire problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/28/2009

Original equipment eagle-rsa 205/50vr17 tires on my Mazda 3- 5door are showing exaggerated wear on all four tires. Even if I do the treadwear calculation, I should have reached 18,720 miles before needing replacement. At 17,miles, the tires are down to the wear indicators. Even before that, I have almost been in two accidents due to the extremely poor wet and snow traction of the "all season" tires. Unless it is dry and above 60 degrees, these tires have little to no traction. Attempting to pull out of my street on two rainy days has resulted in unnecessary wheelspin and near loss of control. This was before 10,000 miles on the tires. I have been driving for 18 years and have only experienced wheelspin in the rain with my 1970 Mercury with 300hp. At a minimum, goodyear should be hit with a false advertising suit for advertising the eagle-rsa as an "all season" tire. I agree with another complainant that goodyear might be intentionally not giving warranty's for the tires against wear because they know the product will not last that long. This is not the first set of goodyears that have not made it to their life expectancy. I had asked the dealer to switch tires with another vehicle, but all of the Mazda3- 5doors on the lot had the same awful tires. I will never buy another set of goodyears or a vehicle that has them as original equipment tires.

21 Tire problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/12/2009

I own a Mazda 3, purchased 7/08, car has 20k miles, the goodyear tires rsa 205-50r-17 need to be replaced due to a defect in a part to correct a rear camber issue, the defect caused the tires to wear unevenly and have very low tread life. The dealership and zone office will replace the defective part but I am having difficultly having them pay for replacement tires. The tires have been effected by the defective part therefore the warranty should cover the full cost of replacement tires. I am waiting for the defective part to arrive at the dealer, the part is on back order. Please investigate the rear camber part issue since good tires leads to safety.

22 Tire problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 09/04/2009

I have been getting my car regularly maintenanced (and tired rotated and balanced) every six months and I have all the receipts to prove this. Dates as follows: November 14, 2007, March 6, 2008, August 25, 2008, April 9, 2009 and sept 4, 2009. I was informed that my tires were cuppling and that I need all 4 tires now as well as a 4 wheel alignment. There are toyo tires and I have one 34,000 miles on them. I was hearing rattling sound coming from the console, dashboard and passenger side door while I drive. I was told it was wires lose and they fixed it. . . . But in fact they did not. I have also had problems with the power-train (reflashing) and battery died before the car was even 6 months old. They changed the battery and supposely fixed the power train.

23 Tire problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/23/2009

I bought a Mazda 3, 2. 3l which had the original manufacture tires which are goodyear rs a p205/50r17 dot v4h4 4mbr 2906 v2589 which gave me a scare since while I was driving. A piece of tread from my front right came off. Took the car to have them replace. They did a diagnostic to see id the car was off balance, but everything was fine. Also the tire shown great deal of damage specially on the inside of it. I am concern if someone else have the same problem with this tires. Since in the shop they couldn't find any wrong with my car regarding the wearing of this. 3 of the 4 tires showed significant damage in the inside of it, you can see the metal.

24 Tire problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/03/2009

2006 Mazda3. The driver lost control of the vehicle in the rain. The consumer drove off the left side of the road and struck a cement wall. According to the police report, the officer checked the rear tires and found them to have low tread. Ohio traffic crash report. # 10-0656-90 updated 04/14/10.

25 Tire problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/29/2009

The original equipment tires on my 2009 Mazda3 5-door: goodyear eagle rs-a 205/50 r17 are showing premature wear at 12,000 miles. The owners manual states that goodyear warranties the tires. The goodyear pamphlet provided only warranties "workmanship" wear is not covered under "original equipment installations". This is the second set of goodyears that have come as original equipment and showed premature wear. I feel that goodyear does this intentionally to inflate their aftermarket sales. When I purchased the vehicle, I asked the dealership to swap tires with another vehicle. All vehicles on the lot had the same terrible goodyear eagle rs-a.

26 Tire problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/30/2009

Same issue as other stated. These tires provide little to no traction on ice or snow. I have owned eight Mazdas and never had on issue like this with any, I have had vehicles of various sizes. These tires are a safety issue. I nearly had an accident the first week of ownership with inability to slow and stop, and take off traction is no better.

27 Tire problem of the 2009 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 01/16/2009

We purchased a 2009 Mazda 3 and have found the car/tire combination to be unsafe for winter driving on show and ice. The car has goodyear eagle rs-a tires which are "all season" rated tires. There needs to be stricter requirements for cars sold in nothern states and for tires that use the "all season" designation. My daughter was driving the car and narrowly avoided a collision while drive at approximately 20 mph because the cars in front of her were able to stop much more quickly. This car/tire combination provided extremely low traction on packed show and ice. The dealership and Mazda have been unwilling to provide adequate tires so the car is no longer being driven when there is snow or ice on the roads.

28 Tire problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

2006 Mazda 3 tires. Already need new tires at 30k miles, this seems to be occurring way too quickly. I would expect tires to last 40k-50k miles before needing new tires.

29 Tire problem of the 2005 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 07/03/2008

2005 Mazda3, front tire experienced a sudden and unexpected loss of air. The consumer lost control of the vehicle, drove off the side of the roadway and struck the median wall. Ohio traffic crash report #10-0285-89 updated 05/03/10.

30 Tire problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 06/03/2008

Toyo brand tires p205/55 r16 size installed on new 2006 Mazda 3 were inferior leading up to premature wear of rubber on tire to the point of showing safety bar under worn tread at only 20,000 miles. Tires were properly rotated at prescribed intervals and proper tire inflation was monitored regularly since vehicle was purchased. Dealership and toyo tire state 20,000 miles is normal wear. When I called dealerships selling exact brand of tire they claimed 40,000 miles should be expected. I also notice some brands of toyo tires were recalled on your website. When I mentioned that to toyo service rep. @ 1-800-442-8696 he stated none of their tires have ever been recalled and your website contains bad information.

31 Tire problem of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 04/14/2008

2007 Mazda323 lost control and hit a barrier wall. The police report stated the vehicle had a flat left front tire and steering mechanism damage that caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle.

32 Tire problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 11/30/2007

Bought my 2006 Mazda3 new. I am getting ready to replace my tires for the fourth time! I would expect to have at least 120,000 miles on my car at this point but only have 90,000. I am a conservative driver in a mild climate. I rotate, balance and align regularly but each set has exhibited the same problem. . . Rear tire wear on the inside. Additionally, since owning this car I have had my rear brakes replaced twice. . . Front brakes still original. The balance of pressure between front and rear brakes of way off. The rear brakes take most of the pressure. Have reported these problems to the Mazda dealer and simple told the vehicle has no problems. These issues have become a huge expense and would at the very least like to hear Mazda acknowledge the problem and offer a solution.

33 Tire problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 02/14/2007

The oem tires for this vehicle are terrible in snowy weather. The first snowstorm we had I called my dealer because I was sliding all over like a snowboard. I was told I shouldn't have a problem because they are supposed to be all-weather tires, but suggested I purchase snow tires, which I have never had to do with any other vehicle I have owned. If I had known the Mazda 3 was so terrible in the snow I would not have purchased it.

34 Tire problem of the 2006 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 12/10/2006

I purchased a new Mazda 3 in may of 2006. I live near cleveland ohio where we can have some bad winter weather. In December, we had one of the first snow storms. My car had 6,200 miles. The roads were what I would consider to have a light snow covering. The tires that are sold oem on this car are rated as all season, so I should not have any problems. I was traveling about 20 mph, and slide sideways for about 50' then hit another vehicle coming the opposite direction, then went off the road into a 5' deep ditch. My car had about $1,400 in damage, which the insurance paid for (state farm). I am a mature driver living in this type of weather for many years. I have never driven a vehicle that handled so badly in the snow. This vehicle with the tire combination as sold is unsafe. After the accident, I have searched the internet and found numerous reviews claiming how poor the tires are in winter weather. I have filed a complaint with Mazda, but was told that they would do nothing. The case number is 110849660. There is no way that this vehicle should be sold this these oem tires in the area that I live. The dealer recommended that I change the tires. I feel that Mazda should replace them for me because I bought a car that has all season tires that cannot be driven in the snow. As noted, this vehicle is not safe with the oem tires.

35 Tire problem of the 2005 Mazda MAZDA3

Failure Date: 10/01/2006

The contact owns a 2005 Mazda 3. While driving 40 mph, the contact felt the brakes grab and release. The dealer stated that the front rotors were warped and they replaced the rotors. The failure mileage was 21,000 and current mileage was 32,965. Updated 01-15-08. The consumer stated the vehicle continued to wobble in the front. The consumer was told all 4 tires had blisters on them and needed to be replaced. The front end wobble stopped. Updated.
