Mazda MAZDA6 owners have reported 8 problems related to brake disc caliper (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mazda MAZDA6 based on all problems reported for the MAZDA6.
The part was purchased via rock auto and installed at home diy. The vehicle failed to return form "maintenance" mode for the rear parking brake. Took it to a Mazda dealer and they determined the calipers were both manufactured incorrectly or the "spline gear" in the rear of the caliper that meshes to the electronic parking brake actuator. This caused the parking brake to stay in maintenance mode, making it unusable for parking nor emergency braking, making the vehicle undrivable. It also caused damage that incurred costs for parts and labor of the vehicle. The vehicle can still be driven and the only way to know its potentially unsafe is the light in the dash for the brake maintenance mode. At this time its unclear if this is the only issue with this part. Jason at dynamic friction technical support is investigating.

All rotors, pads and calipers need to be changed after only 15,000 miles on this new vehicle. The brake system is unreliable on the highway and at risk of locking up due to rusting of all components. The car was purchased in mississippi then housed in florida for 90% of its life. It has not been exposed to flood or excessive standing water, nor up north at all. Https://video. 37483. Net/hougn3bg.

Safety riskif the vehicle continues to be used with such condition, the rust may progress, increasing the sliding resistance of the actuator shaft. In extreme cases, the rusted actuator shaft may get stuck in the brake caliper body, causing brake dragging while driving and decreasing the parking brake holding force, which may result in unexpected movement of vehicle if parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a collision. Remedy your Mazda dealer will check the parking brake actuator shafts inside the left and right rear brake calipers. If the actuator shaft is found to be rusted, the brake caliper assembly will be replaced with a modified one. If no rust is found on the actuator shaft, the protective boot will be replaced with a modified one. The inspection and repair will be performed at no cost to you. Hand operated parking brake safety recall. I received a recall notice from Mazda stating that there is a defect in the brake caliper of Mazda6 vehicles produced from October 25, 2012 through December 1, 2014. My vehicle falls into this recall category. I received the recall notice from Mazda on August 19, 2017 making me aware of the issue and stating that replacement parts are not yet available to correct this safety issue. I called Mazda USA on November 2 to get an update and they still don't have an eta for the parts. The recall notice states that the defect could result in unexpected movement of the vehicle if parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a collision. I have asked Mazda to take the vehicle back and reimburse me. The representative made a note of this, gave me a case number and left it up to me to figure out how to resolve the issue. I'm concerned that the vehicle in its present state is at risk of causing physical harm and property damage to the surrounding area it may be parked in, especially places like san francisco, where high grade slopes are pretty common. Since this is a defect to the brake caliper I can only assume that the problem has existed ever since I purchased the vehicle.
Mechanical type parking brake, water may enter the brake caliper protective boot due to inappropriate sealing performance of the rear brake caliper. The actuator shaft may rust. Which may stick result in the rear brakes dragging while driving and also a decreased parking brake holding force. Ref: recall 1217f (Mazda) 6 months and still haven't got parts for repair.
Rear brake calipers are seized up and the emergency brake no longer engages.

On the mechanical (cable) type parking brake, water may enter the brake caliper due to inappropriate sealing performance of the rear brake caliper protective boot, particularly under low temperature conditions, and the parking brake actuator shaft, which is the component of rear brake caliper, may be rusted. But no remedy available yet and this was back in June 2017.
I had my car parked on a hill, it is a manual and I left it running & had the gear in a neutral position with the emergency break on. I was feeding my neighbors pigs when I noticed my car starting to roll backwards so I jumped in the drivers side of the car while it was rolling backwards to stop the car with my foot break. The emergency brake completely failed thank god I told my seven year old son to get of the car while I was helping with the animals! now Mazda is telling me I am out of warranty & I will have to pay to replace both of my rear calipers as they are stuck & replace the rear rotors & brake pads!!! not acceptable! ive taken my car to power Mazda in salem for all oil changes and maintenance and this is the first time they have ever told me that there is a problem with my braking system!!.
