I am having my brake pads changed at a local mechanic and when changing the pads, the mechanic was unable to change them because the rotors and calipers were rusted and the brake pistons stuck. The previous recall only considered Mazda 6 up to 2013 but my 2018 has had the same problem.

Premature caliper failure on front and rear. Ruined rotors at 40k miles, confirmed caliper failure by two service shops. Grinding/squeaking sounds intermittently been happening for since 30,000 miles.
On 3/16/19 I purchased a Mazda 6 at ocean Mazda in miami, florida. The car has 18,700 miles. The reason why the car has only 18k miles it's because out of the 4 years we have owned it, it was not used as much as a result of the covid pandemic and my daughter attending online classes. I have always done timely maintenance services as required by Mazda at our service dealer ocean Mazda and have proof of maintenance records to confirm the minor maintenance that have been done, oil change, tire rotation, battery replacement and a recall. This past Saturday 4/6/24 I took our Mazda for an oil change; and I was informed that a five point inspection showed that the driver rear brake caliper and pad needed to be replaced because it was measuring 2% lining compared to the three other calipers which showed a 6% lining. Since the 36 month warranty has expired the cost to replace the caliper is $875. 20. I'm a mom simply concerned about the safety of my daughter and have zero knowledge about brake pads and calipers, but one thing that I do know is that I have owned multiple cars during my lifetime and have never had an issue with a caliper going bad and much less at 18k miles. I'm conscious of timely maintenance and take care of the cars I owned to lasts years. I asked my service advisor how is it possible that one caliper could go bad in a span of 2,500 miles when the prior inspection done in August 2023 showed all 4 calipers having a 6% lining as per the service report card? furthermore, the inspection done recently shows the three remaining calipers at 6%. The answer I received from my advisor was that "calipers can go bad", sometimes due to a faulty caliper. A caliper on a car with 18k miles should not go bad unless it is a faulty caliper. Mazda should honor the repair as this is a hazard condition caused by their faulty part.
I just baught a 2013 Mazda6 the rear cradel and cross member was complety rusted away one mount was complety rusted off . The springs was almost ready to fall out the bottem of the spring purch . It looked like it was pulled out of the ocean where it had stayed for years . I tried to find a used replacement out of several we found from 10-13 and going thru national salvage parts we can not find one that was not rusty away all the Mazda6 frams were so rusted they could not be used . Why is this not on the recall list if all I could find are rusted out parts that is a safty hazzard to have on the road.

I was at a doctor's office and their parking lot has a large slope. I parked facing up the slope and applied the parking brake. When I exited the vehicle, I felt the vehicle slowly sliding backwards. I pushed rearward on the car to check if the brakes were holding which accelerated the roll. I jumped back in the vehicle and depressed the brake pedal to stop the roll. I replaced the rear brake pads and noticed extremely uneven wear. Additionally, the left-rear caliper parking brake actuator was bound-up and wouldn't function. I exercised the actuator to loosen it up a bit which should be just enough until I can order the part. I experienced this same issue with my parking brake in 2017. In 2017, I took the car to the dealer who replace the rear brake calipers under recall 17v393000. I called the dealer today 8/16/2022 and they stated the calipers cannot be replaced under warranty or recall again. I find it extremely disturbing that the parking brake would experience such an extreme failure twice in the 8 years I've owned this vehicle. In 2017, the parking brake released suddenly while the car was unattended sending the car down my 100ft driveway, glancing my house and crashing through a wooden fence before stopping. Luckily, this time (2022), I know of the prior issue and can be proactive about replacing the faulty part. These calipers need a redesign where the calipers can last more than 5 years before such a safety failure. . . Or that the parking brake not functioning while unattended isn't the first indication of failure.

I was driving between 40-50 mph at a consistent speed and I began to have to put the brake pedal to the floor in order to slow down the car. Even when doing this the car does not slow down at the rate expected and stopping distance has increased by more than 50 percent. Have been told there is cracked/leaking bore diameter to the master brake cylinder housing is causing pressure and fluid loss, into other internal parts of the braking system. Not visible externally. Mechanic states that they have encountered this problem with several of this year make and model with this exact issue. The shop was able to top off the brake fluid which slightly improved performance but the issue still remains. Car is at 104k miles.
Mazda recalled the problem with the emergency brake(recall1217f) . The dealership did some cosmetic fix that did not prevent it from happening. The emergency brake when applied activated a lever when the brake is released the lever returns to it's original position. The recall was supposed to address the corrosion on the lever shaft that causes it to stick and not release the brake.
System failure: front and rear hydraulic brakes. Yes, the safety of the driver and passenger were put at risk. No, the problem was not confirmed by the dealer or service center. Why not? see below: a) as the brake components (brake pads) were assumed to be wear items and not covered under warranty, the brake components were replaced (brake rotors and pads) and the calipers were rebuilt. C) the brake service work was performed by the owner of the vehicle (complaint writer). There were no lamps/icons nor messages displayed to alert the vehicle owner of the malfunction. On June 05, 2021 while driving in the traverse city mi area descending steep hills, it was noticed that the brake pedal required above normal force to slow the vehicle. In July 2021 with approximately 21000 miles, I disassembled the front and rear brake components to investigate the root cause of the brake performance decline. The front and rear calipers were observed to have very minimal caliper lubricant on the caliper pins and sleeves and evidence of corrosion. The front brake pads were worn approximately 50% and rear pads were worn about 90-100% (no friction material remaining). See attached files. New brake rotors and pads were installed and the calipers were rebuilt. On August 04 2021, I contacted the Mazda customer experience center to advise of the brake system malfunction. Service request number 1-4195762982 was assigned. On August 26 2021, I brought the brake pads and rotors to serra Mazda to advise/alert Mazda of the premature brake pad wear. The service/parts director was given the brake pads in order that the components could be forwarded to Mazda for a "pqr" to be initiated. No response has been received. The vehicle has been serviced at serra Mazda since 2018 and no statements were made to the vehicle owner that the brake pads were below the service limit.

Emergency parking break light randomly comes on it when driving. If I attempt to engage parking brake in order for me to disengage it requires that I put my seatbelt on and have doors lock then put car in drive to take break off. But light still remains on.
I bought this car for 3,000 from the owner had it for 2 months, got oil and all fluids changed. When I was leaving my house a block away it totally died on me and now it wont start at all. I am very frustrated because I dont have the money to buy abother one. Or even repair it.

When I take my foot off the gas it stays at the same speed or it speeds up on its own. When I press on the break sometimes it feels like it's not going to stop and just keep going or it jerks forward when I stop. This happens when I am driving on the road and the cruise control is not on when this happens.

I was braking to a stop after decellerating, driving originally about 45 mph. Traffic was stopped in front of me. I was in motion on a highway, going straight ahead. My car slowed but resisted stopping. I pressed on the brake pedal harder until I came to a complete stop. My right foot was entirely on the brake, as I only use my right foot to operate the pedals. The engine was revving like it was accellerating. The car was in drive. No warning lights came on the dash. The engine continued to rev higher in intensity. I put the car into park, and the engine revved much higher. I pushed the start/stop button to turn off the car. The warning lights came on the dash. I was able to roll down the power window even though the car was turned off. I tried to restart the car after about a minute. The starter engaged, but the car did not start. I tried twice again and it did the same thing. I tried a fourth time and it reacted as if the battery was almost dead, some sound but no movement. I couldn't put the car in neutral to have the attending police officer push it out of the lane of traffic, and we noticed the emergency brake was engaged. I did not engage the emergency brake myself! my husband arrived, and he and the officer were able to put the car in neutral, however, they were unable to disengage the emergency brake. The car had to be loaded onto a roll-off wrecker to be taken to the dealership.
On January 25, 2014, I had my car service at a s. Florida Mazda dealership for a 2013 recall on the door latch mounting screws. The recall stated that the screws may become loose. If all three door latch mounting screws become loose and fall out, the door latch mechanism will not engage when the door is closed, and the door ajar warning light will illuminate. Currently, I am experiencing the same issue with my doors and the door ajar light illuminating. In addition, due to this issue, my battery that I had replaced in may 2020 does not work. My car did not start. I had to have my car towed to the nearest Mazda dealership. The dealership replaced the battery but told me that my door latch on 2 doors had to be replaced because my car thinks the door is ajar and this causes the battery to drain even with the car turned off. It sounds like these issues could be attributed to the 2013 recall. Furthermore, the technician informed me that my car alarm goes off without warning and the technician attributed this to the door latch issue. So all of the above issues can be traced back to the 2013 recall on door latches. It appears that there is a manufacturer defect on the door latches. Therefore, the dealership should make the necessary repairs without charge to me. Right now, my car has been at the dealership for 1 week and 2 days.

I was driving down the freeway in the rain and the windshield wipers quit functioning. I pulled over and checked the fuses finding both fuses affecting the wipers were in working order. While pulled over, I also noticed my headlights were no longer on. I checked the fuses related to the headlights and these were also in working order. As I was not in a good location to leave my car for any period of time, I drove my car a few more miles down the road. During this time, the warning for the "Smart breaking system failure" also came on. I was able to get my vehicle into the dealership and they have diagnosed the problem as a failure of the front body control module. I noticed there is an active recall on the 2016 Mazda 3 for the very same issue. I asked the dealer about this and they said my vehicle is not affected by this recall. Based on the symptoms my car has, and being the same year as cars affected, I would strongly disagree.
My 2013 Mazda 6 have some brake related issues, I was able to hear the vaccum or air leakage noise while applying brakes. Car takes longer distance to stop or at times it keeps rolling at the time of hard braking. Took it to local Mazda dealership and found out its the brake booster leaking and needs to be replaced which estimates around $600. I was trying to find answers online and looks like Mazda had the same issues with other models too from 2011 models. I need to know if this is a safety concern and Mazda should be extending their safety warranty ofr these known issues or defective parts.
Tl the contact owned a 2016 Mazda m6. The contact stated that while driving about 20 mph in the snow, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle lost all powers as the steering failed. The vehicle slide and rear-end the vehicle in front. There were no warning lights illuminated. The passenger side door air bag was the only air bag that deployed. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart after the incident. The contact also stated that the parking brake was engaged and failed to disengage. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a lower back and neck injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard where the vehicle was deemed a total loss however, the contact has retained the vehicle. The contact called continental (4800 old seward highway, anchorage, ak 99503) and was told that there was no recall. The manufacturer was called but no one answered the phone. The failure mileage was approximately 54,900.
I was on a street in the city waiting for the light to change. Suddenly I lost control of the car, the card accelerated himself. I try to and put brake to the bottom but anyway I hit the car in front of me. Much of the front of my car is broken. The other car was damaged in the back of their car. The police made a report of what happened.

The front and rear suspension pops, clunks, the vehicle shakes, vibration also happens, it also causing tires to be replaced faster than normal they go bold in the center its causing now the axles to shake at night time you can see the reflection from headlights bouncing, they have TSB's on this suspension issue however not for 2018 only 14-16 Mazda 6s I believe and supposedly the issue was corrected well they lied because mine is a 18 and it is a disaster, my transmission is now shifting very hard from 1st to second gear, turn wheel it makes a loud clunk sound or popping sound, go over a dip in road does the same thing, you go over a bump the vehicle feels soggy, it like dribbles, it causes the vehicle to sway. . It's horrible, also the brakes was shaking at 15k miles, found out it's tsbs on this issue and of course the dealership didn't fix for free, charged me over 600 dollars for a issue that has a TSB on.
Driving on highway, I had to brake and realized I had to struggle to steer the vehicle properly. I heard a loud clunk when releasing clutch when I had to use it. My steering wheel was out of alignment. When I brought in for service they said the entire frame and underside of the body had rusted out. I do not have pictures yet.
Was driving vehicle at 45 mile per hour. Suddenly noticed steering wheel was off center. I did not hit a pothole or any other obstructions on the road. Steering became very loose and vehicle hard to steer. When braking the vehicle started to make squealing sound and pulled to one side. Suspension became very harsh even on good surface road. . This is a catastrophic failure with no warning. Fortunately was able to get vehicle to auto repair center without getting into accident. Auto repair facility examined vehicle and showed me that engine cradle - subframe had rusted thought and broke. This caused the engine to go off center which caused the braking, steering, and suspension issues. Auto repair facility told me the vehicle was not safe to drive and made me sign a waiver to release the vehicle.
Was driving on interstate at 70mph and applied breaks, heard a bang from area of passenger front side and lost control of the steering of the vehicle causing it swerve into the adjacent lane on my right. I narrowly avoided being hitting and being hit by other vehicles and was able get the car to the shoulder event without having proper control steering as the car would only steer to the right. Upon inspecting the vehicle it was discovered that the bang was the passenger side subframe cracking due to heavy deterioration from rust. The car is underivable. I contacted Mazda and discovered that the previous years of this model have a recall for this subframe deterioration issue for the same exact part #. I was also informed that the car cannot be fixed as because of the part # is not available and has/is on backorder for many months. This defect is a huge safety risk, in my case I am very lucky this did not result in fatal accident traveling at 70mph on interstate 80. I fear other might not be so lucky. The subframe recall most certainly needs to be expanded to at least 2011 and subsequent years that use this same subframe. Additionally, at minimum courtesy to it customers Mazda should be altering its customers to have their subframes inspected as this is a very dangerous situation with many vehicle owners un aware they are driving ticking time bombs with subframes that are deteriorating prematurely and can lose control of steering at any moment.
8/11/2018while merging from route 9 onto route 95, I heard a clank coming from the bottom of my car, didn't think since driving through deep flooding from current rainstorm. Was on I-95 when steering seemed to go, veer to the right and brakes not catching. Was able to get off highway, regained control of car, went to my destination on rte 109. Drove, pumped breaks since I thought the problem was flooding & wet brakes. Left to go to next destination & steering was off, so drove very slowly (steering off & had to keep turning to the left) once again thinking weather related. Exited 95 to sprauge st. Dedham where brakes weren't working well, drove to friends in area and as I drove down hill, car lost steering and I landed up curb, brakes weren't working, put on emergency brake & finally stopped. Friends house was around the corner so rolled down hill to her house to let car dry as still thought it was from flooding. Left her house after an hour, drove two blocks and car completely lost all steering, lights on dashboard started flashing, brakes went. Called aaa and was towed to steve's service station where on Monday the car was deemed "totaled". The entire sub-carriage was covered in rust & corrosion, there were holes, pieces of metal from the car missing and major cracks all underneath and encasing the brakes and other part of car. Was told if I had gone a bit faster on 95, bottom would have fallen leading to serious accident. Note: there are numerous complaints about this with Mazda6 and Mazda has done nothing. I cannot receive financial compensation from insurance since is corrosion and not collision that caused the problems. Financial disaster. 47k miles, one owner car. Consults from mechanics said they have never seen anything like this on 8 yr old car. Appraiser said Mazda known for rust problems - gave me websites to research to assist. Please help!.

Heard a knock while driving (as though hitting pothole). Next day steering column felt loose, breaks seemed worn and sound on sharp turns. Later that day while driving in city, went over a normal dip in the road and heard a crack/louder knock. Wheel turned to the left, even though driving straight. When applying brakes, wheel now turned to the right. Pulled aside and ran over curb as brakes were not as effective. Initial diagnosis: brakes and bearings need repair (although these were replaced less than 5 months ago). Next diagnosis: subframe psg. Side completely rotted and cracked. Will take a month to repair [rental provided]. Note- the past 6 months I've had other issues including: electrical (fuse for radio/locks/int lights keeps breaking; after 1. 5 hour diagnostic cause still unknown. Chose to replace fuse as needed- weekly to monthly); 3 tires have gone (even though 2 were fairly new; needed alignment); brakes and bearings twice. Could be regular wear and tear or could be related.
I was on a city street travelling around 35 mph. While approaching a stop light and applying the brakes the car suddenly started pulling to the right and almost pulled the entire vehicle into a ditch. The vehicle came to a stop at the edge of the grass. I pulled the vehicle over further to avoid traffic and noticed the right tire was now touching the wheel well. After having the vehicle towed the mechanic informed me that there was extensive corrosion underneath the vehicle which had led to the failure.
At take offs, my wheels spin like there is no traction and I feel like I have no control over my car. Also, while driving, I've had to exaggerate the turning of my steering wheel to change lanes, while parked and pulling out of a parking spot, when turning the steering wheel it sounds like something broke(cracking). This also brings up the brakes issue. I almost t-boned someone that ran a red light and stopped in the intersection. I had time to stop but my brakes didn't allow traction for my tires to stop and I was able to turn my steering wheel enough to swerve towarb the back of her truck and miss her.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Mazda 6. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per an unknown recall regarding the brakes in March of 2018. After the repair, the contact heard a grinding sound coming from the brakes. The initial repairs were performed by bradshaw Mazda service (2512 laurens rd, greenville, SC 29607, (864) 458-3500). The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who wanted to charge the contact a diagnostic fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 42,172.
When driving on a street or highway I can still drive with the emergency brake on in the up position, and it doesn't affect my vehicles forward movement what so ever.
Twice now the electronic emergency break seems to have disengaged randomly minutes after I walked away from the vehicle.
Takata recall, my alarm keeps going off randomly all throughout the day each day. The only way to get it to stop is disconnecting my battery while I'm not driving it which is not a viable option. My passenger airbag protector is also melting. Furthermore, I had to replace brake rotors before 100,000 miles was reached because my car would shake uncontrollably at any sort of braking speed.
The parking brakes seems to not hold the vehicle when parked on slope.
