I was slowing down to stop behind another car at a red light and my car slowed down but did not fully stop. I barely bumped the car in front of me at probably less than 5 miles per hour but my air bags went off. There was no damage to my car other than the air bags exploding and my insurance company wants to total my car because of the air bags exploding. I have second degree burns and a cut from the air bag.

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Mazda Tribute. The contact stated that while driving straight at approximately 35 mph, another vehicle made a left turn and crashed into the front driver side of the vehicle. The air bags deployed. The contact sustained face lacerations from plastic fragments after the air bag deployed that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Concerning takata/Mazda airbag recall, I purchased my used 2004 Mazda Tribute dx from santa fe (nm) Mazda Volvo dealer October 2006. Then I shipped it via crowley shipping to my permanent residence in st. John, u. S. Virgin islands. . . Where it has been continually in use from 2007-to present. St. John, us virgin islands is a high humidity area . Your online recall qualifying area mentions just puerto rico, so before I am diverted or put off by Mazda, I wish to know if I actually qualify. On top of this, at time of purchase it was not pointed out to me that the used car was an official "lemon law buyback. I did not see the plaque affixed to the frame of the car until after it was shipped here and I was washing top to bottom to get shipping sea salt off. I am 70 and live alone, never even occurred to me to think of such a thing. I have had to replace all of the major parts of the car over the last 7 years, so now I am really worried about the air bag.

The air bag dash light came on and stays on. Took it to the dealer to get it fixed but the extended warranty won't cover it. Also Mazda has known about the problem, they said they had a bulletin on it but it expired. I don't think it's fair since we just bought the car 2 years ago and it had already expired. Why didn't Mazda fix it before they sold it to us? I feel this is a safety issue and it's their issue, not something we contributed too. I was also told if we don't fix it we won't pass safety inspection. This is crazy that they can sell things that they willingly know have a safety issue but then want to charge us for the manufactures error. P. S. This car was bought from the same dealer as the original owner bought it and had all the service work done. That's why I can't understand why the bulletin didn't get done.

2003 Mazda Tribute, purchase new. Abs light keeps blinking and then stays on and then goes off. Three separate trips to white plains Mazda at a good cost to us and telling us it was corrected - drive a 1/2 mile from the dealer and the light goes on again. Corrected again and a week later it goes on again! additionally, we have an incident in a parked position with motor running (10/13/08) where the car's rpm jumped to 7,000, the car rumbled and completely shut down. Car could not be restarted. Had to have it towed at a substantial cost to me including a separate charge to try and jump the car and now is at Mazda white plains again. Please contact me. I have called customer service number and they are to be in touch with my dealer. Please advise.

I have had air bag harness replaced three times now and according to Mazda it has now caused my air bag module to short out. This would seem to be a safety recall which Mazda does not want to own up to. I am concerned for safety of passenger in car and cost for replacement is becoming absorbent and any investigation into this safety concern would be appreciated.

Took my vehicle to a dealership to have the airbag icon/light that is always on. When I turn on the ignition, the icon blinks. Even if I am driving the icon stays lit. Dealer have not been able to correct this issue.

When slowing down or proceeding to a stop, the car completely shut down in middle of the road while the engine is still running. The brakes will freeze up and the only way to stop the car is to pull up on the hand brake. The car will restart. This has always happened in traffic and is a very dangerous situation. Brought the car into the dealership the first time on may 3, 2003. Dealer said that they replaced the idle control valve. Two weeks later, the same problem arised where the car completely died in traffic. Brought it back to the dealer on June 3, 2003, they said there was improper operation and reprogrammed the pcm. The car died down again a week later while driving slowing down in traffic on the freeway. Again brought it back to the dealer for the third time June 19, 2003. Left the car overnight and had the technician drive the car 100+ miles home, but they could not duplicate the problem and sent the car home. Car died again in traffic. Brought the car back to the dealership the fourth time on July 1, 2003, and once again dealer was unable to duplicate the car. Advised me to keep driving the car until they problem worsened. This is a very dangerous situation as the car is in motion at all times when it has died and in traffic. A potentional dangerous and fatal situation that needs to be addressed immediately! the car was purchased in June 2002, and since then it has had a master cylinder leak, air bag circuit failure, as well as fuel system electrical wiring problems. Mazda needs to be aware of the potential risk factors involved in its Tribute models and recall the cars.
