When approaching a 4-way intersection during daylight hours, the light turned yellow then red. I tried to stop by pressing my brake pedal. My vehicle did not slow down, but continued to accelerate up hill. I pressed as hard as possible but my vehicle went through the intersection and I ran into the side of another vehicle. I was originally going about 30mph and when I hit the other vehicle, I was going about 25mph. My vehicle stopped after hitting the other vehicle but continued to rev higher. I was injured when my arms bent the steering wheel forward, the seat belt bruised me and my right foot (talus bone) was broken by the pressure on the brake pedal. I required surgery. I was out of work for 3 weeks and wore a cast for 7 weeks. The policeman who reported to the accident site discovered the gas pedal was half way down to the floor and stuck. The other driver and a witness said they heard the vehicle revving after it stopped after impact. The vehicle cut off after about 30 seconds on its own and would not restart. There are similar reports of this happening on the website but no recalls have been issued. I had owned the vehicle for 5 years and 9 months at the time of the accident. The vehicle was totaled.

At 39720 miles I brought my 2004 Mazda Tribute in for a problem that turned out to be leaks in the transfer case and timing chain cover which were replaced under warranty. At that time, the Mazda service center (#1) told me that the front disc brake rotors had worn below minimums, could not be resurfaced and should be replaced. They also said that the pads were at their minimum thickness and should also be replaced. This was after having taken the same car to a different Mazda dealer's service center (#2) one week earlier and being told that the front brakes were ok (5/32 on pads; 2/32 being the legal limit) and could probably go for another year before needing to be changed. That technician (#2 dealer) didn't seem to have a problem with the rotors. I was told by the #1 dealer that the rotors were not covered under the Mazda warranty - this was considered a normal wear item. However, Mazda's own national customer service agreed with me that rotors are technically not a "wear" item. This is only the second time in 30 years of driving cars with disc brakes that I have ever had to replace a rotor; the last time the car had 90,000 miles on it. Rotors generally don't wear at anywhere near the same rate as pads. Also, there was no warning to me while driving that I was getting to a potentially dangerous condition. The brakes appeared to work fine, did not pull to one side or make any kind of squealing or metal-on-metal sounds. This is a serious condition worthy of a recall! it should have been done a while ago as I have heard of this problem for more than a year now! the fact that two Mazda trained technicians came up with two completely different assessments of my brakes is also cause for concern.

While driving down the grape vine on I-5 my husband herd an engine noise. We pulled over and my husband checked under the hood. It appeared to be a noise coming from the fan belt. He shut off the engine and checked the oil and it was fine. We tried to make it to our destination of monrovia,CA. The engine noise got louder so we had to stop at the nearest exit and luckily there was a gas station at the corner. My husband checked under the hood again and this time he thought it might be coming from the engine. He rechecked the oil and it was fine. We called Mazda and they towed the vehicle at the nearest Mazda dealership. The following day, a person from Mazda called my husband and said we had engine problems. Mazda wanted oil change receipts from us. We told them that we are not from the area and we were on vacation and have to go back home and look for receipts. The person from Mazda stated that the car was not maintained therefore, Mazda will not cover the warranty. He also said that the engine was a quart low on oil and the oil was black. My husband checked the oil at a gas station before we went up the grape vine. He checked it again twice when we pulled over each time and it was fine and the color of the oil was brown not black. We bought the car new and changed the oil every 5000 miles. The car has about 35,700 miles and the engine should not break down like that. We had no type of warning and the engine oil light should go on if the oil was low and it did not go on because the oil was not low. When we returned home from our vacation, I faxed the receipts to Mazda and Mazda declined the repairs. The car has been to the dealership before and Mazda claims that it was electrical problems. After this repair, the alarm would sound while driving. It has stalled on my husband while going down a hill at about 35 mph but luckily, he was able to put it in neutral and restart the car and stop the vehicle. What can we do because we feel we have a lemon.
