Mazda Tribute owners have reported 72 problems related to speed control cable (under the vehicle speed control category).
I was turning into a parking spot and of a sudden I couldn't turn my steering wheel. I got it towed to a dealership they said it was the power steering. They replaced the torqgue sensor. Then my next problem was my gas pedal sometimes just wouldn't accelerate. I was driving on the highway in the fast lane with cruise control on I turned it off. Then I tried to push my gas pedal it wouldn't accelerate so I had to hurry up and pull on the side of the highway because cars where behind me. It eventually just started back and another time it was 3 am and I was driving on a back road. I pushed my gas pedal but it wouldn't accelerate so I started hitting it as hard as I could. It still wasn't working so I pulled over and put it in park. I just kept on pushing the gas pedal and after 15 mins it started back working. I took my tuck to another Mazda dealership and they replace the throttle cable and retainer. A month later I started having the same problem again. I was turning on to a highway ramp and it wouldn't accelerate. Since I was turning I wasn't going that fast so I had to just let my truck roll to the side of the highway until it started back working. I called mazada to see if they had a recall on the gas pedal. They said no but there was a recall on the power steering but it ended sept. 2015. Today was March 21,2016 I'm just finding out about it, and I didn't receive anything in the mail about it. They really need to have a recall on the gas pedal I still don't know what the problem is. I'm so scared I'm going to get in an accident.

We purchased this vehicle new and about 5 times over the history of owning this vehicle, the gas peddle stuck and on the last most recent event the car got stuck at a high rate of speed on the freeway and it could not be slowed by pulling the pedal up with foot. Thank god there were no vehicles around or slowing traffic ahead. Mazda issued a recall #94751 - vehicle speed control: cables but when we took the car into the nearest Mazda dealership we were told that our vehicle's VIN is not covered by this recall as it supposedly does not have the "defective part(s) installed. " yet the summary of the recall description notes that it is a design/installation flaw with the vehicle I. E. "inadequate clearance between the engine cover and speed control cable connector" resulting in a stuck throttle. Mazda won't stand behind their vehicle now and want us to pay to have it serviced/diagnosed/fixed?! also I had previously taken this car to the dealership twice in the past when this happened and they could not find anything wrong with it. Mazda needs to do a more in-depth investigation of this very dangerous situation and design/parts flaw and issue a more extensive recall on their 2005 Mazda Tributes. Note our model is a 2. 3l, 4 cylinder engine and their recall only covers the 3. 0l v6 engine.

Moved from center turn lane into eastbound lane of rush hour traffic at 5:30pm. Suddenly noticed the car was speeding. Took foot off accelerator but car continued to accelerate. Managed to pull into a right turn lane into a gas station while standing on brake to no effect. As I swerved into the gas station, I put the car in neutral and turned engine off. Car stopped about 10 feet away from gas pumps. Turned engine on and it raced. Shortly after that the accelerator pedal dropped to the floor and no longer worked. This car was taken in to rick case Mazda, duluth, GA on 10/10/12 for the 2012 Mazda recall due to cruise control and supposedly "fixed" using part #1 f01-10-218 stud. Service station who repaired my car following the 9/10/143 incident said the cruise control cable had once again caused the sudden acceleration and removed and replaced thecruise control cable. I am constantly worried now that the car will do it again.

There may be inadequate clearance between the engine cover and the speed control (sometimes known as cruise control) cable, which could allow the engine to be stuck at full power when the accelerator pedal is fully or almost-fully depressed. Safety risk: a throttle that is stuck fully or almost fully open may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop or slow the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury, or death. This risk exists regardless of whether or not cruise control is used. The dealer will modify the engine cover to provide sufficient clearance for the speed control cable, free of charge. The contact owns a 2008 Mazda Tribute. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal failed to respond. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal failed was applied. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the cable and the clip to the pedal. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
More frequently now the gas pedal sticks and cannot be pressed down after releasing it for a short period of time. It seems that the throttle cable gets locked in a single position and then cannot be moved without first allowing the vehicle to slow down to an unsafe speed or unless it is pressed really hard. I read there were similar recalls to other models of this vehicle but not mine.

While driving home from work the vehicle started to accelerate on its own . Quickly I shifted the vehicle to neutral and stepped on the brakes. After the vehicle came to a complete stop the engine started to idle (to about 5 rpm) on its own. I had to shut off the engine in the middle of the street around 5 am in the morning because the idling wouldn't stop. Lucky for me it turned back on. Now I've read the stories about the recalls back in 2004 about the defective accelerator cable. A couple years later another recall due to the repair the first time not being done correctly. I just took the Tribute to Mazda to repair two more recalls for the same thing. Why is it still happening? Mazda plans to charge me for a diagnosis fee of $95. 00 tomorrow. (really?) I think this vehicle should be taken off the roads. Ya like that's going to happen. Wait maybe if it happens to me again and the throttle gets stuck and I lose control of the vehicle and die, well just maybe this problem that started back in 2004 will finally get resolved once and for all.

I was pulling into a parking lot and my vehicle accelerated as if I was pressing the gas. However, I wasn't pressing the gas, I was pressing the brakes. I had previously taken my vehicle to the dealership to get a recall done involving this issue. Prior to the, alleged repair done to the vehicle, I hadn't had any problems with that issue. I had received a few letters in the mail stating I needed to have to recall done and I decided to go ahead and take it to have the stated recalls done. Anyway, I called the dealership the following day of the incident and told them what happened. First, the guy asked me if the vehicle was in cruise control when it happened and I told him "no". The he told me that the vehicle would have to be in cruise control in order for it to do that but my recall letter stated that it did not have to be in cruise control for this to happen. I took the vehicle back to the dealership the day after I spoke to the guy over the phone. My vehicle stayed at the dealership for about 3 days. When I went to get my vehicle, the guy in the service department said that the recall had been done and that the throttle cable was worn and needed to be replaced. Anyway, my complaint with this is, that prior to the recall being done, I had no problem with the vehicle accelerating on its own. So if there was an issue with the throttle cable itself, I would imagine this would have been an issue prior to them doing whatever they claimed they did.
On June 25, 2013 @ 11:00am I called Mazda corporation (reference call number: 148295420) about recalls associated with my Mazda Tribute 2003 and was told that the recalls were not assigned to the VIN number of my vehicle. The Mazda representative stated that only the seat beat adjustment has been assigned to my vehicle and that I do not qualify for the recall. Mazda will not honor the recall. I bought the Tribute in 2010 from a dealership; thus, was not aware of the recalls. I have been having a lot of problems with the vehicle and have spent a lot of money trying to fix it. I have a 13 and 14 year old girls and am a single parent. According to the recall, the vehicle is not safe. I cannot afford right now to purchase another vehicle. I am only asking Mazda to honor the recalls. Please see the recall notice below from Mazda. 2003 Mazda Tribute recall item affected: vehicle speed control:cables date announced: 7/27/2012 description of recall: Mazda is recalling certain model year 2001 through 2006, and 2008, Tribute vehicles equipped with 3. 0l v6 engines and speed control.
