I was stopped at a red light and when I accelerated the car didn't change from 2nd to 3rd gear and the tachometer was reading very high since I was trying to accelerate. Since the car wouldn't excel I pulled over and turned off the engine. When I turned it on again it was okay. I took the car to the mercedes dealership 1/8/13 but they couldn't find a problem. This has happened a total of 4 times since 1/7/13 and each time I have to pull over and turn off the engine to reset it. Additionally, I have had a problem with the car lurching (jumping) when putting it into drive or reverse and when accelerating after this the car doesn't change from 1st to 2nd gear. Also, I have had 2 incidents where the car has not accelerated to the appropriate gear (higher gear) on a highway ramp and I have had to pull over and turn the engine off to reset it. Sometimes when I pull over and turn the car off I have to do this again as it doesn't correct the problem the 1st time in my opinion this is a safety issue, but not only that it is very annoying and every time I get into the car I wonder whether it is going to happen again.

The car is going into limp mode when you stop and than go. You pull over and turn the car off it resets the computer and it works fine for couple of days. The issue been going on for over a year now.
I was driving on the freeway and noticed that my car would not accelerate and rev high in rpm. I have to pull over on the shoulder of the freeway since I am losing control of the car. I was about to call the tow service but I recover after I restarted the engine. At the dealership, the dealer has determined to a sensor on the transmission but said since my warranty expired, I have to pay $1300 to get the sensor replaced. This is terrible since my car has only 45000 miles on it. In addition, this is a common issue based on the forum discussion and mercedes should have a recall on this issue. This is a terrible customer experience and I don't know how I can trust them.
2006 mercedes C230, loss of power and acceleration. First time it happened when the mileage was 62k. I was driving on shennandoah valley then suddenly the acceleration and engine power keep decreasing though my foot was completely pressing on gas pedal. I decided to full-over to cool down the engine. After re-starting it, the problem went away for awhile and back to normal driving condition. Then it happened again when my car had 65k miles, I experienced the same problem but this time from a complete stop from traffic light, when I tried to accelerates. . The car was no acceleration at all though the pedal was completely to the metal. This will be a very bad situation when all of a sudden it will not accelerate to normal running condition, when I needed to enter the highway to merge to a fast moving traffic.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes C230. The contact stated that while exiting the highway, the vehicle engaged from park to neutral independently and decelerated. The contact stated that the vehicle had to be turned off in order to correct the problem. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the failure could have been a problem with the transmission internal speed sensor or the shaft balancer. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 69,000.

Vehicle seems to run fine but after a cold morning start the check engine light illuminated. After taking it to the dealership for diagnostics (totaling $105. 00) it was revealed that the code rendering the balance shaft or possible bad sensor was the reason for the check engine light illuminating. The estimate cost for this repair is ranging from 5 to 6 grand. This is highly unacceptable for a vehicle with only 45,000 miles. 2007, Mercedes Benz, C230, black on black, that has been stored for a majority of its existence because I am deployed overseas does not send a good impression when the company will not admit that there is a definite problem with this engine type. In today's economy, consumers spend a little more to reassure this type of repair is avoided by purchasing a more reliable source of transportation. I guess I should have purchased a chevy or Ford, at least then I would be expecting this type of nonsense.
The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes Benz C230. The contact was driving 50 mph when the check engine warning light illuminated and the engine started sputtering. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the mechanic confirmed that the balance shaft needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 1,300.
The engine light came on asking me to go to the next gas station and check oil. When I took to the next day to a mechanic and upon a thorough diagnostics, I was told that the balance shaft (in take camshaft code 1208) and exhaust camshaft, code 1200 need to be replaced due to premature wear and faulty parts.
I was on the highway and the car suddenly stopped accelerating and the rpm's ran way up and the car would not accelerate. I tried putting it in neutral then drive and nothing. I pulled over turned the car off for a few min. Then back on. The car operated normally. The check engine light also came on and I had all the necessary service done on the car at that time. The car has done this increasingly for the last year and it is now becoming a hazard. The car has started jumping when put in drive and it is alarming. I cannot afford to replace the transmission and I feel mercedes should take responsibility for a defect in this model. I have children and this is my only car. I don't feel safe in it anymore and my children don't either.
Bought this car with 38000 on it. The get up and go seemed sluggish but mechanic said it checked out. Had some major issues. Car would barely go, went directly to mercedes dealership. Dealer said fuel pump was out $793. Also said I needed to service the transmission, $350. They also said I had a much greater problem. A balance shaft inside the motor and quoted me $4600. The car now has 55,000 miles on it. The warranty was for 4 years or 50,000. The car is one year or 5,000 miles out of warranty. It is hard understand why this type of catastrophic failure is occurring so soon after the warranty is up. I checked this out online and it seems like I'm far from the first owner to have this problem. I saw a lawsuit, too bad I don't know how to participate. I'm really disappointed that mercedes isn't doing the right thing on its own. Please help!.
Having problem with the gear shifting, believe this is caused by the shaft balancer, etc. The car grabs and jerks from time to time making me unsure of the safety of my car. My car only has 84,000 miles on it. The car is like new, but as I read the class act against mercedes I noticed that my car has several of the same issues as others listed in the complaint. The interior and exterior of my car is in excellent condition, and I can't believe that the mercedes company would allow an error like this to continue. I would like for this to be corrected by mercedes or to be placed on the class act suit as well.
Driving in to work on the highway I was doing about 70 mph and suddenly I felt hard jolt and the car began to slip and swerve. There had been snow storm the night before and the roads were wet. I manage to control the car and pull over to the emergency lane. The transmission had shifted down for some reason, causing the wheels to slip. Shifted the car to p and back to d but the car had no power. Shifted a few more times and finally I was able to drive into work but the transmission continued shifting up and down unexpectedly. Slipped and swerved a few more times. Upon researching this problem online found that this is a repeating issue across multiple Mercedes Benz models. I am also learning that this problem may cost upwards of $2,000 to repair. This is a very dangerous condition that could have caused an accident. I called mb customer service and they do not admit to any problem with their transmissions despite the multiple instances posted over the net. I am also now seeing that the stability control program is not working nor is the manual shift feature that this car came with that allows me to manually shift the transmission up or down. I put the car in d and cannot shift up or down nor do I see a specific gear selected on the dash board. This leads me to believe that this is either a computer or electronic problem. I first noticed an issue with the transmission about 1 year ago at 60,000 miles when I stopped at a red light and could not get going again once the light turned green. The car was in d but left as if it was in neutral. The engine rpm's ramped up but the car would not move. Had to shift to p and back to d to get going again. I did not see this problem again after that which is the reason I did not do anything about it up until now that I almost had an accident.
The failure in this case is the replacement of the counter balance shaft on a 2006 C230 Mercedes Benz with less than 100,000 miles. I've read that many of these failures have occurred and the reason for failure was due to the shaft not having proper hardening. I've also read the Mercedes Benz is aware of this problem. The cost of the repair is about $4500 on a vehicle that the warranty goes out in 4 years or 50,000 miles. All services to this vehicle have been done as required, but not through the dealership. Information I've read about this problem states that there's nothing I could have done to keep this from happening and that it's happening to many, many vehicles. I believe if this is happening frequently that the manufacture should be responsible for the costs associated with this type of repair. Thank you for your time and consideration.
This car is a money pit! I bought 2004 C230 kompressor used in 2007. To date I have spent well over $8500 in repairs and the car is sitting in my driveway with its latest affliction. . A completely blown engine. It is a useless piece of junk and I am out the $25,000 I originally paid for it, plus the additional $8500 I have put into it. This is how Mercedes Benz takes care of business? something has drastically changed. My dad has had 2 mercedes over the last 30 years. . . They ran perfectly until he sold them. He just bought a brand new s-series (2012) and it has already been in the shop numerous times. The cars are made cheap and everything in the interior is plastic, not wood as it should be. Mercedes, you should be ashamed of how far you have let your standards fall, it is a disgrace.

2000 mercedes C230 defective brake light switch. The brake light switch has failed 4 times on this car, and there is no indication that the brake lights are not working. This could lead to a serious collision, as drivers behind are not aware that I'm slowing down/stopping. On previous occasions when the brake switch failed, it was also not possible to switch the transmission out of the "park" position. During the last failure, the transmission worked ok.

My 2007 C230 automatic sport sedan that I purchased pre-owned and certified from an authorized mb dealer in 2009 has been experiencing problems since purchase. I have experienced extreme loss of acceleration and running at a high rpm. It first occurred a few weeks after I purchased the vehicle. I was entering a parking garage with a steep hill and as I drove up hill, the car struggled to accelerate while the rmp ran high. I feared the vehicle was about to roll backward and I quickly applied the brakes, placed the car in park with my foot still on the brake. I turned it off and restarted and was able to continue into the garage. I took the car to mb service and after they tried to say it was nothing without reviewing the vehicle, they finally agreed to do a diagnosis. I was advised they found a faulty sensor and it was repaired. Several weeks later, it happened again while in the parking lot of my residential building as I attempted to back into my parking space. The vehicle did not accelerate and the rmp ran high. Turning it and restarting again remedied the problem. The third and forth time it occurred on the high way during my normal commute to and from work. The issue re-appeared in busy traffic. The vehicle would not accelerate and the rpm ran high. Each time it has occurred, I have had to pull over, turn the car off, let it sit, then when I restarted the vehicle, it was fine and I drove off without any problem. I have done some research on line and have found that there are numerous complaints regarding the 2006 2007 C230s with the same or similar problem described and it appears to be with the transmission. There is clearly a defect going on and I would like to request a recall investigation through the NHTSA.
The contact owns a 2002 Mercedes Benz C230. On October 15, 2008, while driving 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly decelerated to 15 mph on its own. The vehicle was towed to the garage. It was diagnosed that the radiator failed and coolant fluid penetrated the transmission reserved fluid. The mechanic replaced the radiator and cleaned the transmission at the cost of $5,000. The mechanic stated that the transmission will eventually also need to be replaced. The failure mileage was 56,146 and current mileage is 59,000. Updated 02/24/09. Updated 02/25/09.

The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes Benz C230. The contact stated that the engine rpms increased to 4,000 however, the vehicle would not accelerate over 20 mph. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer performed a diagnostic that was unable to locate a failure code. The vehicle was taken back the dealer and a second diagnostic was performed which located the failure at the transmission conductor plate. The dealer flushed the transmission and replaced the conductor plate. The failure was not corrected. The vehicle still would not accelerate over 20 mph. The contact coasted to the shoulder, turned the engine off and restarted the vehicle in order to gain acceleration abilities. The failure mileage was 9,392 and the current mileage was 32,000.

Consumer feels the design of the speedometer is unsafe because over 50% of the speedometer is not useable at legal speeds and the result of the compacted calibration is that the sppedometer is not readily readable at highway speeds resulting in a tendancy to accidentally speed. Nlm.
