On may 27th, 2025, during highway driving suddenly the sunroof got open by itself for like 3 inches upwards from the front and after exiting the highway I stopped and push the sunroof downwards by applying the force and apply duct tape all around the sunroof to keep it protect from sun and rain so I am not driving anymore before getting it resolved.

While driving my 2016 mercedes-benz C300 on route 12 in utica, NY around 8:10 pm on may 29, 2025, the panoramic sunroof spontaneously exploded while in the tilted vent position. It sounded like a gunshot and sent glass raining into the cabin, causing multiple cuts to my hand, ear, arm, and lower back while I was driving. The shock nearly caused me to lose control of the vehicle. Conditions were clear and dry, around 60°f, and I was driving about 50–55 mph. I have reported the incident to mercedes-benz USA (case #14443457). This is a serious safety hazard, and I am concerned about residual glass in the vehicle’s ventilation system and potential future injuries. I am also concerned about paint and interior damage from the explosion.

Panoramic roof explode sound like a gunshot but the roof exploded.
The roof fabric headliner getting separated from its foam backing. That created two sagging fabric pockets on both ends near the rear windshield.
The complaint is about the sunroof which has an open recall with all warning signs and risks exactly identical to my make, year and model (2016 Mercedes Benz C300). More than 15,000 vehicles have been affected by this problem and the warning signs suddenly appear with the vehicle. Mercedes benz after their investigation after several reports were filed, later found that the sunroof glass panels were installed without prior application of the primer (bonding agent) which was supposed to ensure the specified strength of the bonded joint. Nhtsa received several complaints concerning this issue where the sunroof suddenly began shaking and rattling which began with the driver noticing excessive wind noises in the area of the sunroof while driving indicating that the panel might be partially separated from the vehicle. I began noticing this on Tuesday may 28th, 2024, when my sunroof tilted open on the left side and failed to open properly. Upon closing it, I began to drive, and the wind noise and excessive rattling was immediately noticeable. It sounded like the wind was forcing open my sunroof and was almost like the wind was about to pull it out. In fear, I slowed down to about 20mph, but it was still very noticeable. I got scared and immediately pulled to the side of the freeway and parked. Then I immediately looked up the issue on google and noticed that there was an open recall for the exact same issue, for my make, model and year. It was noted that the roofs if not fixed will eventually pull out and flyaway posing a safety risk to the driver and other motorists who may crash as they try to avoid the debris or if the panel hits them. Luckily, I pulled over quicky out of fear for it felt like my sunroof was literally about to pull off by the wind. Now I am unable to drive my vehicle because of fear for my safety. Please I would appreciate if this were resolved and for my vehicle to be recalled and fixed immediately as soon as possible. Thanks.
I have a fuel smell in the cabin of my car which started about 3 weeks ago. I have drove the car a couple of times and it was pretty bad, also my sunroof almost blew off the car while driving to dry the car after removing the salt from the streets after the snow. I have since parked it in the garage to avoid any further damage. I will submit pictures so you can see the sunroof.
During a drive, I had the sunroof opened and then it suddenly started raining. When I tried to close the sunroof using the button, it wouldn't budge. I had to continue driving on the highway with rain pouring inside the vehicle. When I finally found a place to stop and check the sunroof, I saw that the roof on one side was popped off. After a few minutes of trying to close it, it finally popped back into place on its own. However, now there is a rattling sound coming from the sunroof when driving, and the car is no longer quiet. I can hear outside noise as if a window is cracked opened. Every time the sunroof opens and close there’s a slight popping sound on that side and looks like it is still out of place.
While driving on the highway, I heard a loud noise that, on first impression, led me to believe someone fired a gunshot at and struck my vehicle. Upon looking up, I immediately noticed it was not a gunshot but instead the glass to the front portion of my panoramic sunroof had spontaneously shattered and flew completely off the vehicle. This flying glass flew directly backwards and could have posed a deadly result for the numerous drivers traveling behind me. There were no flying objects or other dangerous instruments that struck the vehicle but the sunroof spontaneously, on its own, shattered and completely detached from the vehicle. Upon subsequent online investigation, I learned this very issue has been experienced by other Mercedes Benz drivers, with the sunroofs spontaneously shattering and flying off. Despite purchasing a extensive warranty at the time of purchase, body work, inclusive of glass replacement, is not covered. Consequently, I was forced to file an auto insurance claim, which required an immediate $500 deductible to be paid to enable the repair company to order the replacement glass. This reoccurring issue most certainly requires a recall for vehicles containing this problematic sunroof. It is not only a danger to the driver of the vehicle, but also to all others traveling on the road.

The panoramic sunroof sliding clips are plastic and break. While going down the road the roof lifted when I attempted to close it. The plastic clips broke that secure the slide rail and glass together.
Sunroof will not open or close, this is a major safety issue! sunroof is currently open. Also, defrost does not work properly during severe weather conditions. When it is raining, my windows will not unfog, this is dangerous and may cause an accident!.
Panoramic glass sliding plastic brackets broke off while driving at 25-35 mph lifting up the glass off the vehicle. Quick reaction saved the large detached glass from flying off into the roadway injuring or killing someone. Vehicle was 5 years old and out of warranty. Dealer estimated repair cost at $2500.
Piston 1 cracked at 48,000 miles. Mb told owner that the engine had to be replaced but when finding out that the warranty was up at 50,000 they replaced the piston instead. Car is still shaking at idle and rough ride. Engine shakes and jerks.

Car is a 2017 mercedes C300 coupe and has had to replace windshield 3 times. Problems with windshield cracking. 1st repair car came from dealership with a long crack on drivers side, 2nd car was at service center for 3 weeks to a month and customer came to pick up the car and long crack across the top of windshield. Happened while in mb possesion.
Heard something crack and the found later plastic pieces of the shoe on the right side on the sunroof in the rail of the sunroof. It was the rail guide shoe. The mechanic advised me the entire roof would need to come up, including headliner. He also said you'd need to replace rails, which sounds a bit much for a plastic shoe. I agreed, it's ridiculous that these are made of plastic. 4 thousand dollars to fix it. I been seeing a lot people complaining about the same problem.
Sun roof fix glass flew off of vehicles in traffic while I was driving on a busy highway. Adhesive glue failed to keep the part attached.
Sunroof will not close at all, seats will not adjust (electrical), wiper visibility is unclear, defrost doesn't work properly.
The driver side wiper blade is constantly skipping and shuddering, preventing the windshield from being properly cleared in the rain. After 3 visits to the dealership they finally told me that this is an existing issue and mercedes doesn't have a fix for it and may not wish to fix it. I should constantly spray washer fluid on the windshield, even during the rain as a temporary fix is what I was told. I have video of the problem.

I called Mercedes Benz dealership to make appointment, they took my information 6 months a go with out any answer the fix the recall problems.
In addition to a strong, noxious, moldy odor, vehicle's front windshield fogs over so totally that it becomes dangerous in highway driving. The hvac/climate-control system's defroster is unable to clear more than the bottom few inches of the windshield: the only way I can see through it is to wipe away the fog with my hand. This happens when the vehicle is in motion but persists when it is stationary. This happens in almost any weather, but especially if there is moisture in the air(fog, rain).
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz C300. The contact stated that while stationary and driving various speeds, th vehicle made a series of indistinct grinding noises and the steering failed. The vehicle was towed to advanced auto solutions - 35 schuyler avenue, north arlington, new jersey 07031 (201-998-0814) - where the serpentine hydraulic belt was replaced in February of 2018. The failure recurred and the dealer replaced the serpentine hydraulic belt a second time. The contact stated that the indistinct grinding noises continued therafter. On August 24, 2018 the vehicle was taken to benzel busch motor car corporation - 28 grand avenue, englewood, new jersey (201) 567-1400 - initially to have the sunroof closed which had become inoperative, and failed to close in the previous winter months. The dealer closed the sunroof. The work order status form stated that the dealer checked for noise and removed the ocp, inspected cables for damage, and assessed mechanical cables to make sure they did not slip while driving. In addition, the driver and passenger air bag were replaced, as stated by the work order from the dealer. Thereafter, the contact stated that the esp. Warning light illuminated intermittently. The contact stated that the cruise control became disabled and that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate forward while driving various speeds. Three weeks later the contact stated that the indistinct grinding noises recurred. The vehicle was taken to mercedes-benz of nanuet - 99 NY-304, nanuet, new york 10954 (845) 624-1500 - where it was determined that oil had leaked from underneath the vehicle and that there was a potential fire risk. The work order repair form stated that the steering column was faulty, as well as the axle boost. The dealer replaced belt tensioners and idler pulleys. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,412.
Notices of recall; scheduled with dealer and never received a call back to replacement. The call smells strongly of burnt plastic since I bought the car. Every single car maintenance person tells me the car emits that smell.
When the outside air intake is covered with snow or ice it will not allow outside air into the hvac system. This causes the front window defroster to not be able to blow air on the windshield to clear the windshield. This is a very dangerous design flaw on behalf of Mercedes Benz. If hot water is poured over the outside air intake screen the blower will operate properly, blowing hot air to defrost the front windshield. Only happens if the car is outside with snow or ice buildup to block airflow into the hvac system. Defroster will work properly if no snow or ice is covering the area.

Driving home on northbound I-5 in seattle. Very loud noise like a small explosion. The front part of the panoramic sunroof exploded! there were no over passes or cars nearby. No other apparent damage anywhere. Outside/exterior sunroof looked fine (see photos). It was raining at the time. The sunroof, although shattered, did remain intact, however started leaking. This appears to be a very common problem (do any type of internet search on panoramic sunroof exploding). Please investigate.

I took my C300 Mercedes Benz (with only 52,000 miles), to the Mercedes Benz of miami dealership to check the wiring in both head lamps, since the headlights were intermittently flickering on and off, while driving at night. This electrical problem was of serious concern for me as a 72 years' old senior, could be a dangerous safety issue, creating a life and death situation. Mercedes benz dealership assistant service manager, juan obando, told me that the wiring to the headlamps was corroded and could not be replaced. I would have to buy two (2) complete new headlamp assembly units costing $1,890. - plus tax and labor installation. While driving at nights and unpredictably and intermittently losing head and low beam lights, is of grave safety concern to me and creates a hazard to pedestrians and other drivers on the roadway and highways.
The contact owns a 2016 mercedes-benz C300. The contact stated that there was an extensive glare that impacted the contact's visibility pertaining to the mirrors. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to have a dealer inspect the vehicle. The service center manager at the dealer test drove the vehicle and indicated that there was a high glare causing poor visibility. The dealer and the manufacturer provided no repair solution. The contact was unable to determine if the vehicle would be repaired. The failure mileage was not available.
My lcd navigation screen does not turn on anymore. It randomly flashes when I'm driving and causes a distraction. After some research, it seems like an extremely common issue with many C300 models of the 2008 year. Some owners have reported smoke coming out of the corner of the screen.
The contact owns a 2012 Mercedes Benz C300. The contact stated that the windshield wipers failed. The vehicle was taken for repair and the blades were replaced however the contact wipers were still failing. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the incident. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
