The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz E350. The contact stated that while approaching a stop, she heard a roaring sound coming from the vehicle. Rear differential noise diagnosed as failing pinion gear. This car has been driven carefully. The milage is 63,000. Rear differential problems appear in various forums and may occur more commonly than is currently known by the NHTSA. Similar/same may also be occurring in Chrysler products. The rear differential will need a rebuild or replacement.
Rear differential pinion bearing. The rear differential is making a howling and loud noise. The car only had about 60k miles and the bearing failed. This is a known issue for this model and other mercedes models as well. I got quoted around $3000 to fix this. This should not be an issue on a $65,000 car at this many miles. Mercedes benz needs to do a recall on the red differential since they fail at a very low mileage.
