The contact owns a 2009 mercedes-benz e-350. The contact stated while driving 30 mph and coming to a complete stop, the vehicle started sputtering and stalled. The contact pushed the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact towed the vehicle to her residence five days later. The contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under an unknown recall because the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.

The car would not start fuel pump faulty and is part of gas tank bad design cost me close to $3800, some paid by mbz. Mbz replaced 2009 gas tanks for free under warranty but would not do mine. This is a bad design they should have told me about it so I would not buy the car. It is stupid to have to replace gas tank in order to replace a fuel pump in 2012 I had gas leakage from the same area and I paid to fix it they should have told me this would be a problem. Instead they kept silent when I take my car for service they always list of things to do so I can spend more money at the dealership why the [xxx] no body bothered to tell me about this problem that it would cost me a lot of money to fix . This car has cost over $60,000 to buy and I did not pay that kind of money for a car to last me only 12 years. Mbzs are supposed to last 30 years or more so ifeel cheated big time I think they are hiding this because they will get sued big time and I hope they do both the dealership and the mbz company. The dealership is mercedes banz of valencia in valencia, CA 91355. Phone number 661-753-5555. I have the necessary paperwork. I would like to be reimbursed fro all the cost, the 3 weeks without a car and fro the pain and suffering they have caused me and so it will be a lesson to mbz and their dealers not to pratice this fraud. I am available for an interview or more information as needed. Regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2006 Mercedes Benz E350. While driving approximately 30 mph, fumes seeped into the vehicle. A fuel leak was present inside the vehicle on the left side of the rear passenger seat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and the fuel pump was replaced. The contact suffered nausea and vomiting and required medical attention due to the fumes. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
I've noticed strong gasoline odor from inside and outside of the car. Did an inspection and saw a leak on the fuel pump.
For the last 3 months after filling the fuel tank a incredibly strong gasoline smell would fill the passenger cabin. This would only occur when the fuel tank is filled to capacity. Upon investigation, I removed the rear seat and access plate to see the top of the fuel pump/sending unit. With the seat removed and the top of the fuel tank visible, I filled the car with fuel. With a full tank, raw gasoline seeped through a small crack in the plastic top of the fuel pump sending unit assembly and filled the area on top of the fuel tank. Upon further investigation, the insulation inside the passenger cabin under the seat appeared to be saturated with raw fuel. In retrospec, if a spark would have occurred in the car, there is no question the car would have exploded.
Strong fuel odor was detected in my E350 Mercedes Benz car for few days. Called my Mercedes Benz maintenance shop( Mercedes Benz -green way plaza at houston TX). They checked the car and they told me this a common in this series car. The fuel leak was from fuel pump on top of the fuel tank. This is a very dangerous issue, especially in hot weather area like houston. I don't understand why there is no "recall" on this issue. Updated 09/10/lj updated 12/21/13.
Nhtsa action# pe12001 strong fuel/gasoline odor smell coming from the drivers side rear wheel area. Fuel tank is filled to full (after it "clicks" off) and this is when the odor is most prevalent. The E350 is parked in a single, detached house's 2-car garage. Fuel/gasoline smell is particularly strong in the enclosed 2-car garage. I am afraid the these vapors will ignite when in an enclosed space with the furnace in the sharing the same space (being that it is winter time now and the furnace is now kicking on to heat my house).

I filled my gas tank and parked in garage when I returned to drive vehicle I smelled gas in the interior of the car, I took the car to my mercedes dealer and they told me that the fuel pump located under the rear seat had a leak that could only be repaired by replacing the fuel pump so I had the pump replaced the dealer also stated that they believed based on the number of replacements and the potential for fire that this would be recalled.
In the previous months leading up to March 2012, I, along with my family, started to smell a strong odor of fuel in the interior of our Mercedes Benz e 350w. The smell was so strong that when riding in the automobile, we had to drive with the windows down fearing of what could happen to me and my family if there was a spark from any part of the engine or underneath the automobile. At a point during that bad experience with that automobile, I could only fill the fuel tank half full without smelling the strong odor of gasoline inside the vehicle. I thought it was now time to get some professional service and advice. In January, 2012, I took my automobile to atlanta classic cars, inc. In duluth georgia 30098. After the first inspection, I was told fuel sending units leak fuel. The next visit, March 2012, both sending units were replaced. Before the next visit, the fuel fumes continued. The next visit, April 3, 2012, the fuel pump was replaced due to intermittent open circuit. The next visit, April 9, 2012; "the team leader found a slight trail of fuel residue which may be where fuel vapors are coming from part of the fuel tank. " the next and last visit, April 12, 2012 the fuel tank was replaced. Not trusting the work performed by that dealership and the time it took to find that problem, my wife and I had no other choice but to trade the automobile. Maintaining ownership of that automobile was much too risky and dangerous for my family. Dealing with that dealerships service advisor was much too difficult!!!.
I own a 2008 mercedes E350 4matic. After a trip, with the car sitting at the airport for a week in warm weather, I entered the car and noticed a strong gasoline odor. I vented the car and drove home. The odor remained. Subsequently I had the car put on a lift and there was a stain coming down around the sides of the gas tank. I also removed the rear seat and noticed that the seat foam was saturated with a gasoline smell directly above the access panel for what I believe is the fuel pump assembly. I understand from local mechanics that this may be a frequent occurrence with mb e series cars. This leads to a very dangerous situation in terms of potential fire/explosion as well as excessive evaporative emissions. Mb USA stated that they do not have an active recall campaign for this problem.
