3 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2015

I just recently purchased this vehicle from a small dealer on 6/30/15. On 7/8/15, at about 8pm, I was driving home from a long trip for work, got about 20 miles into my 70 mile drive, when it seemed like the road in front of me was darker than it should have been, I made sure my headlight switch was on headlight mode. It was actually on automatic mode, so switched it to reg headlight mode. I was not use to this new car yet, having not driven it much at night yet and just thought it was my imagination, that they were not on as they seemed to have worked previously. I kept driving as I could still see the road in front on me but it was definitely getting darker and darker and now cars coming from the other direction were flashing me, so I had a feeling that they were not working. When it was safe to do, after trying unsuccessfully to get the headlights working by turning the switch dial, I immediately found a somewhat safe spot to pull over. I got out, looked in the front and surely they were not working but only in flash mode. I turned car off, checked fuses, waited about 10 more minutes, then started car again. They finally came on, so I took advantage of the situation and made a dash towards home again, which was probably another 35 miles or so. I do have aaa, if I needed to use it but just wanted to get home. I made it home safely, thank god but this seems to be intermittent, as they work sometime and other times they don't. I was wondering if there is any recall on this matter as it seems to be a huge safety issue and I do not want to be in anymore positions where this keeps happening. I work late a lot but since this has happened, I'm extremely nervous driving car past a certain time now and can't afford this to keep happening as this is my main car, I use daily. Thank you very much and look forward to any/all replies back. Have a great day. Kevin snyder.

4 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

I started my car after dark and did not have any headlights. All the other lights worked. The only way I could make the headlights function was by holding the high beam switch on the signal lever toward me all the way home, over 1 hour. . When I got home I looked on the internet to see if this was a common problem and it is with this year and model car. It is a safety issue and the manufacturer should warn and address this problem.

5 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2015

I was driving in low light conditions with the headlight switch in the 'on' position and noted no lights, I pulled to the side of the road and noted all other lights brake/tail/running were in working order. After a brief outage the lights came back on - and I continued on. Later that evening approximately 11p, in the dark, I was to return home. The headlights failed to light after several attempts and I had to drive home while holding my high beam selector in the flash to pass position. After approximately 7 miles the headlights came back on and I made it home. I checked the internet and found a 'customer satisfaction' campaign, though not a recall. I called the dealership and explained the issue, they had me in the next day, replaced the part and had me back on the road in under an hour, at no cost. The part alone is $260 on internet sites, and I've heard of dealer charging 600-7000 dollars for the repair - prior to the campaign. I'm satisfied and hope it is fixed for good now.

6 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Headlights suddenly go out while driving at night. Switching between settings does not bright them back on. The only way to have any headlights on at all is to pull and hold the bar that turns on the brights.

7 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2015

Headlights flicker on and off without warning. I have to hold my bright lights switch towards me in order to see on the road at night on my way to and from any given destination without warning. I've had it fixed but didn't fix the problem because it continues to happen.

8 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2014

Headlights would not light had to hold the dimmer switch to flash. What is the potential cost of a fatality due to the headlights going out while driving down the road? wakeup Ford. . . . Don't you see the big picture or are your lights out too?!!!!.

9 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2014

We were driving on rte 202 in chalfont, PA and turned onto rte 152 heading south. While driving along an unlit part of the road, the headlights went out. The switch was not working to turn on or off. I went off the road but was able to recover safely. I turned the car around and headed home. Lights came on and off again in about 3 minutes. Lights continue to go off randomly when car is driven at night time.

10 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2013

I was driving on the interstate when the headlights went off suddenly. The only way I could get lights was by holding the dimmer switch toward me on bright. Then it would suddenly click back on and then go off again. It was very scary. After looking this up on the internet this same safety issue has been reported numerous times with the exact same complaint. This is very dangerous.

11 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

I was traveling down the highway at 55 when I noticed my headlights were not reflecting off the road signs. I pulled over and checked my lights and noticed I only had parking lights not headlights at all. I got back in the car and tried the light switch but nothing came on. I had to have the car towed and was told the lcm lighting control module has failed. At a cost of 400 dollars. Safety hazard Ford knows about but is doing nothing about it.

12 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

While driving PA turnpike headlights cut off with no warning or any"flickering",replace, bulbs & fuses. Didn't help. . The headlights would not work on auto or manual. The only way we were able to safely get off highway was holding bright lite switch forward. This issue has made recalls of "certain models and certain, but not mine??? why aren't marquis and crown vic ,that are"outside" the recall car list, that have the same problem included???is it because not enough people injured or died?? so I'm stuck with a car I can only drive during the day !!! wth? I live on disability and was told it was a thousand dollar repair. . . Why wouldn't Mercury consider cars "outside" the recall years be treated like they were part of the recall, since all the symptoms are the same?? the dealer made me feel like I was trying to rip him off or scam him. The headlights cut off and back on at their discretion. . I don't fell safe driving my, fairly low mileage car(well maintained). Don't believe I'll be driving Ford products after this. If Ford would at least help those of us out here,by making the lcm sold to us at a free/at cost ,pricing !I feel that would be fair. I'm sure many cars not having this problem don't need "recalled". I would have thought Ford would be honest enough to stand by their products, and address this safety issue?! mail me one and I'll put it in. . . Thank you.

13 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

The headlights go and intermittently. They come on initially but only say on, on average, for about 5-10 minutes and will stay off for about 3-4 minutes. The headlight switch has been replaced but the problem is still occurring. No other mechanical work has been done since replacing the switch.

14 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2011

The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that while driving, the headlights failed without warning. The failure mileage was 103,000. The VIN was not available.

15 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2010

All headlights quit without notice of any sort. After replacing bulbs and switches, I went directly to Ford. They charged almost $700. 00 to replace the "processor lighting control", which the service clerk explained was likely the problem. Since Ford knew this was a problem, why did they not recall the vehicles having this problem. We could have had a very serious accident.

16 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2010

I am currently having problems with my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis with the head lights not coming on or going out. All other light stay on. Turning the light switch on / off and it won't come on. Same symptoms in auto or manual headlight mode. If I stop the car it will come back on. It then might go off after a while. I see others have had this same problem, this was confirmed by my local Ford dealership. Very common problem with serious safety concerns. Dealer tells me it is a failure of the light control module (lcm).

17 Headlight Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that the headlights suddenly stopped working. In addition, the turn signals and bright headlights would only illuminate whenever the switch was held. As soon as the switch was released, the lights would dim again. Usually, the headlights work normally when the vehicle is parked overnight. The contact scheduled an appointment with the dealer, but they have not yet inspected the vehicle. He believes that this is a manufacturer defect. The failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 83,000.
