The headlights went out on my car while driving home in a snow storm. When I took my vechile to pepboys to find out whats wrong. They said it was the lighting control module that can only be repaired at Ford dealership. They also stated it was a recall on this. When I took it to Ford they said their was no recall on the module. I am unable to drive my vechile, I cant get to work. Which I am in jeopardy of losing my job. If this is on recall why wont Ford fix my car. It put me and my children in harms way of almost crashing trying to make it home.

9 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 10/22/2014

Headlights went out. I received a notice from Ford in April of 2014 there was an electical/lights problem and they would repair if owner actually had this problem. I had no problem until oct 2014. Went to my dealer quick lane/Ford in topeka, KS. They reported that part has been on back order since may of 2014. Contact another Ford dealer who reported same. Light have regularly gone off since that time. What is a reasonable time to expect that they would have correct parts to replace as neither dealer had any report as to when part might come. VIN: 2mefm75w25x660472 field service action number: 14n01 fsa title: extended warranty coverage on lighting control module.

11 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

Failed lamp control module, headlights fail to work, only high beams work when lever is held in flash position. Ford issued an extended warranty program 14no1 in the spring of 2104 for just this part for 15 years or 250,000 miles. No replacement parts are available in the USA. The dealer says they have a waiting list that goes back six months. Have talked to regional managers in dearborn, mich. All say they have no idea of a shipping date, much less a delivery date, from supplier. Won't indicate how many vehicles are effected, but has to be many due to extended warranty program. Their solution is if the lights don't come on or go out while driving is to hit under the dash to the right of the steering column and they should come on. This means there are cars on the road that people are driving during daylight hours knowing that their cars headlights are not working correctly, but no parts available from Ford to honor warranty. This means that cars are being used that may not be legal to drive in the rain (most states have headlight on if raining law) and also will not pass state inspection. I understand that parts are not always readily available, but should be available in several days. If this is a known problem, why are there no parts? no other help or loaner vehicle program is available.

12 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 07/27/2014

I was driving at early dawn when I realized in some shadier areas the headlights weren't working. I pulled over and confirmed this. I thought that instances of intermittent headlight failure the week before was a misperception on my part. I had received a letter from Ford weeks earlier; Ford has indeed confirmed this problem is due to their lighting control module, so much so that Ford's letter claims that the company will cover replacement for an additional 5 years. My car's module has now failed completely. I am unsure in how many earlier instances, especially in semi-lighter environments where it was less perceptible to me, this intermittent headlight failure put both myself and other drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists around me in real danger. The failure of my car's module has since been confirmed by my local dealer. In addition, I contacted Ford directly. However, affected drivers, as well as potential future owners, both of whom have and will pose a danger to others, have not and will not have a remedy any time soon, according to Ford, despite their letter. Ford dealer and regional managers suggest that the part is out of stock indefinitely. Future drivers will have no remedy to their cars' unsafe conditions. An allusion has been made to some unsanctioned, uncovered, and pricey, unreimbursable fix with no guarantee of success, hence to guarantee of safety either. Worse still, Ford has categorized this issue as one not entitled to rental assistance despite their "covered" failed part being responsible. States' inspection processes will fail any vehicle exhibiting this clearly unsafe issue. The commonwealth will deem my unsafe and unroadworthy this month, leaving me with no recourse. And with no relief expected from the manufacturer, any other car suffering this failure will meet with the same fate. What is the worth of being "covered" without a safe fix?.

13 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 05/14/2014

Customer satisfaction program by Ford, #14n01: they (Ford) tell me in a letter that my headlights may fail without any notice of a problem. They (Ford) know this is not only possible, but that it has happened numerous times already. There are blogs that speak to this issue. If it is the function of your department to protect consumers then please do so. This is potentially a deadly safety issue. . . . . If there is even the slightest chance this could happen I don't understand why this department has not rectified it and made Ford recall these vehicles.

14 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

While driving in the evening on an unlit road with my 10yr old in the car my headlights jst went out. There was no place to pull over and we came within inches of ending up in a ravine. I have read your NHTSA report on the issues with Ford lcms and I find it ridiculous that this is not considered a safety issue. The internet is full of complaints on this part that Ford knows will go bad and still there is no recall.

The headlights turn off randomly. The running lights stay on but the normal headlights will go off randomly and then come back on several to tens of minutes later. I can hear a clicking sound when the lights do go off and back on. When the lights do go off, I can hold the high beams on if I hold the stick toward me. Sometimes initiating a turn signal will cause the headlights to come back on.

19 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

While driving down the street under normal conditions at night, my headlights went out unexpectedly. They would not turn back on, either in the automatic or manual "on" setting. This problem continues to happen. Sometimes the lights work, but then will turn off without warning. I researched this problem on the internet and there are many, many, other complaints exactly the same as mine, with the same make and model car. To me, this is a manufacturing defect and a major safety concern. Can you imagine this happening at night on the highway in a snowstorm? the faulty part seems to be the lighting control module, which in my area costs $551. 78, and labor is about $90.

20 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 10/19/2013

High and low beam headlights failed while driving at high speed on dark 2 lane highway in upstate NY. Fumbled with light controls until by random chance discovered that by holding "flash to pass" stalk back, high beams could be activated. Made it home steering with the right hand and holding flash to pass with left, blinding oncoming drivers with the high beams all the way. This is an intermittent problem in the lighting control module (lcm) that can sometimes be cured by kicking the lcm, which is located under the dashboard above the accelerator pedal. Hard to do at night, on a dark road, at high speed, in traffic, while holding the flash to pass stalk with the left hand and steering with the right hand. This intermittent light failure occurred again the week of may 25, 2014. This vehicle should not be driven at night and should be recalled immediately before someone gets killed.

21 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 09/30/2013

Driving down the road and the headlights went out. All other lights work fine, but the headlights work intermittently. 22 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

I was returning home with my wife from a trip to charleston, SC, at about 10:00 pm, driving at 60 mph, when my headlights suddenly shut off. That happens in the vicinity of awendaw and there are no street lights in the area. Both my wife and I screamed in panick while I was trying to slow down the car and staying in my lane on the highway. I was thankful that the turn signals, marker lights and brake lights still worked, so any other cars would be able to see me. When I finally pulled up the side of the road without any mishaps, I inspected the car and found out that all the fuses were good. I then restarted the car and still did not get my headlights to come on. I played with the turn signal/ low beam/high beam lever and got the flashing high beam position to work, so I drove home to myrtle beach holding the flashing high beam lever up to light my way. Otherwise, I would have to hire a taxi, spend the night in the nearest hotel to wait for daylight to resume my trilp home. Apparently, the problem with the headlights shutting off without warning while driving at night comes from the lighting control module installed the the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis that malfunctions when the cars reached an average mileage of 69,000 miles (some as early as 30,000 miles, up to 114,000 miles documented).
