This is a serious safety hazard that could result in death or injury. If I hadn’t escaped in time, I would have been killed. I am urging the NHTSA to investigate this defect and take immediate action to remove these vehicles from the road. Others may not be as lucky. This issue is life-threatening, especially because the fire started while the vehicle was in motion. These vehicles must be recalled and removed from use before more people are injured or killed.

I started Mercury with foot on break like normal. Shifted into reverse. Car accelerated backwards at full speed. Brakes did not stop car. Attempted to shift into neutral but went into drive instead. Car accelerated forward at full speed with my foot still on break. Car hit metal post and tree knocking them down and dragging the tree 50 to 60 feet before stopping with my foot still on the break. Car had stopped accelerating. I turned off the ignition. This unintended acceleration had happened before. Two different dealers attempted to fix the problem. Both of them thought they had been successful but it happened again. Previously, applying the brakes stopped the car, but not this time. Someone could have been injured severely or killed.
Hard to steer car, power assist not working, doors do not lock.
When driving the steering will feel loose and the car sway left and right but the steering wheel isn't moving. Feels like the front wheels are going to all of a sudden shoot left or right and loose control. . I had a 2001 crown victoria and there was a recall on the steering shaft and I got that fixed. It was doing the exact thing my Mercury is doing now. . And also my electrical is freaking out. . Turn signals flash very fast here and there. . Speedometer will freak out and then not work. . . . I'm mostly concerned about the steering because it happened in my crown victoria.

?yrs. Ago while backing out of parking space at calaveras lumber, after shifting into reverse, & removing my foot from the brake; the engine appeared to receive a huge burst of fuel which shot me backward like a rocket slamming my vehicle into and wedging it under the frame of a pickup truck parked in the same lot. I am glad I was parked and had my foot on the brake prior to this unit or system malfunction otherwise the injuries could easily have been fatal on the highway. I think this defect may be a contributing factor to the car dying recently while on my way to a wedding reception in roseville, which left me stranded after dark for 41/2hrs and 71/2hrs. 2days later. I have not been able to start vehicle since and mechanics unable to diagnose why the engine is fuel starved when system parts tested appear to be in good working order. Something seems to be shutting off power or preventing power to the fuel pump and it is not the inertia switch, relays, fuses etc. . Components have been previously inspected by numerous others including dealer. No recognizable alert/warning prior to incidents!.

The lcm light control module is malfunctioning and Ford/Mercury say that this vehicle is not part of the recall.
For sometime now the headlights on my 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis appear to fade or dim soon after turning them on; giving the impression they are losing power and about to fail. I live in the mountains and am very familiar with each and every turn I see on the roads I travel. You see that is the matter of fact- if my headlights failed; I would not see the turn possibly a fatal fact.
First issue: the headlights and door chime stay on after key is removed and lights are off causing battery to drain while vehicle is not being operated. Second issue: 50 amp ignition fuse blows randomly while car is in motion which causes a complete loss of power to the car including: braking power and power steering assist. The tilt steering being raised or lowered fixes the problem temporairly on occasion. A clicking sound from the lighting control module is heard when adjusting the tilt steering also.
Sometimes the headlights flick on and off while driving. Then when the car is turned off, there is a clicking noise in the driver side dashboard that continues until it drains the battery. Also, sometimes the door locks cycle open or closed whether the car is driving or off. This has happened multiple times and caused me to replace the battery, and still I have to jump the car from time to time. This has happened several times over the past few years, but only now have I found this site to report it to.
Catalytic converter fail, engine idles rough while in park. High loss of engine power while driving differentials in back tires are imbalanced…timing fail. Steering not calibrated, drivetrain out of sync altogether. Back wheels, left and right; randomly spin & torque hard while car is already in motion on any private road, hidden road, domestic road and high capacity, high speed highway, causing vehicle to fishtail uncontrollably and dangerously, and wildly side to side potentially veering off the road which could result in death unless the driver regains proper control of vehicle. Out of sync car computer and the mechanical devices built into car do not have proper timing performed on those particular moving parts altogether. The car was not manufactured properly mechanically nor electrically altogether. Headlights & electric system etc have an incomplete recall on my vehicle. 2mehm75w04x608779.
1. Rear seatbelts often jam and have to be unlocked by a professional. 2. Blend door switch that controls heat and air conditioning gets stuck on heat and blows extremely hot air year round even if the unit is turned off. Vehicle is in motion on highways and city streets. 3. Vehicle sqeaks while in motion due to faulty ball bearings.
I purchased a 05 Mercury Grand Marquis and had issues with the headlights going out while driving at night. I seen that there was a recall on this issue for my vehicle but when I called the Ford dealer they said my car wasn't registered for a recall. They said I would have to pay $135 for a diagnostic test and leave my car for 24 hours. No one was able to inform me why my specific vehicle was excluded from the recall. If I'm telling them that I'm having a problem that they clearly know about why are they charging me to fix it?.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving approximately 60 mph, the exterior lighting, dome light, and all other lighting turned off without warning. The vehicle was taken to inver grove Ford Lincoln (800-730-1765, located at 4725 s robert trail, inver grove heights, mn 55077) to be diagnosed, but the technician was unable to schedule an appointment right away. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who changed all the fuses, but the failure recurred. The contact called hastings automotive at 651-437-4030 (located at 3625 vermillion st, hastings, mn 55033) and scheduled an appointment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Odometer fades out most of the time. . . Sometimes it will brighten up so you can see it. . But soon fades out again. . Ford wants $600 to fix it. . . 2008 is the only year that fits and there are 4 different ones that fit. . Can't find a used one.

Driving on humid day, closed windows and turned on a/c. Controller failed to close defroster vents, causing window to quickly fog up, restricting forward vision. Previously had same problem on 2006 Grand Marquis which I had repaired by Ford dealer. Took 2011 to dealer, got repair estimate of $900, as dashboard must be removed to get to failing part. Am told problem is vacuum leak in controller component. Although associated with a/c, which generally is not considered a safety issue, the controller failure does result in a safety issue, and in my opinion should be subject to recall.

Lcm Grand Marquis 2003.
My 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis ultimate edition, was very great however it caught on fire due to the malfunction of the windshield wipers. . . They would come on automatically while I was driving, my windshield wiper switch would be on the off position. . . And the wipers only worked on a high speed seeing none of the other speeds worked. . . Prime example I would warm up the car for 10 min. . . Because its cold outside then I would drive, all of a sudden minutes later, my windshield wiper turn on by itself in a high speed position , I turned the wipers on so I can see if turning off would help it doesn't so clearly it has a mind of its own. . . As if a ghost was in it. . . I googled the problem. . Cleary there are other models of the same and different year numbers that have the same problem. . . They say its either the wipers motor a relay or the whole left, right indicated switch which the windshield wipers works off of. . . Long story short my car caught on fire the morning of Nov. 21, 2018 a day before thanksgiving in my driveway which could have set my car on fire. . Had to call the fire department at 1:45am in the morning. Due to an electrical issue the car had. . It looked like a movie with the car on fire. Because clearly if the car is parked and the windshield wipers motor is still trying to move with no power to the car. . . I loved that car so much. . It almost caught my house on fire. . . Could have exploded and put my family at risk. Which it did. As much as I love Ford, Lincoln, Mercury I am just saddens and devastated that the car I wanted loved and bought or shall I say financed is totalled buy an electrical fire that burned the inside all up in my car and engine is burned out. . . . And the fire when I was woken up to hear this when I called 911 and was looking outside the fire that I seen started from that driver side front windshield with fire coming from the motor of the wiper onto hood.
Lcm (lighting control module) recall from 2015. I bought the car in March of 2016 and the dealer failed to take advantage of the recall before I purchased the car.
Vehicle was parked. I went to turn my headlights on. No headlights, turn signals, dash lights, hazard flashers or dome light. The 2003-2005 models were recalled for this same thing with the lcm failing. Please look into this as this is a serious safety issue.

2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. Consumer writes in regards to reimbursement from a recall notice from Ford regarding a safety issue with the lighting control module.
Neither the air conditioner nor the cruise has worked since 46,000 miles. It needs a new air compressor which would cost over $1,000 and there are several other complaints for this issue plastered all over the internet.
This not my vehicle. This is a vehicle I found for sale on autotrader.

Vehicle at times with my foot on the brake pedal, just starts to accelerate for no reason when I stop a light or in traffic.
The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v861000 (exterior lighting). Hempstead Ford (301 n franklin st, hempstead, NY 11550, (516) 483-7200) indicated that they provided the recall remedy; however, the contact stated that the low beams, high beams, and daytime running lights failed to function. The failure progressed for years with no solution from the manufacturer. The dealer did not specify what part was replaced and indicated that the turn signals also failed to function. The contact informed the dealer and showed them that the turn signals functioned improperly, but they failed to provide a remedy. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting for a solution. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.
Intake manifold failed (burned and disintegrated in the area of the thermostat ) and had to be replaced at considerable expense . Presently the speedometer fails intermittently dropping to zero at random moments. Most importantly the lights cut out intermittently usually when the heat is on and on longer trips. Also, most times it has happened when it has been raining and colder. Drove upwards of 40 miles with the headlights cutting out intermittently in the rain and cold, problem has continued to recur but seems to be related possibly to having the heat on. I believe the lighting control module is located near a heating outlet and may be suffering a failure as a result but this is just speculation. Also, previously when I had pulled into a rest area for awhile, after cooling down, the problem went away for a little while then resumed after about ten miles with the heat on. I believe it is being caused by the excessive heat the lcm is subjected to by virtue of the area in which it is installed. The lighting control module is of motorola manufacture with siemans relays inside. The part has numerous numbers on it , most prominently: xw7t-13c788-aa , 6mx2794a01, 990429a, and lighting control 95m . Others online with similar vehicles (crown victorias) and of other model years manufactured by Ford have reported similar problems and that replacing the relays has resolved the issue. I do not know that this part is the source of the problem but suspect it as many others online have reported that this part was the source of their problems.
The contact owns a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that the interior and exterior lighting operated intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 165,784.

Heating unit does not respond when heat option . Floor , mix ,defrost options are selected and temperature control is at maximum hot.
On October 21, 2016, while I was driving on I-30 in dallas county, a fire occurred in the daimay-supplied driver-side visor lamp assembly of my 2009 Ford Mercury Grand Marquis. The Ford fuse system failed, allowing the fire to burn, melting portions of the visor and roof material. The melted material fell on my left leg and the driver seat and floor of the vehicle, causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns to my leg. Chrysler notified NHTSA of a similar defect in the daimay assembly on July 1, 2014, which resulted in the first of two Chrysler recalls on July 10, 2014. Ford, however, chose to not recall its vehicles with the daimay visor assembly system, despite receiving notice of similar complaints, claims and incidents before the subject incident. Therefore, I respectfully request that this defect be promptly investigated and that the unsafe system be recalled so that other consumers are not injured.
