36 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 11/11/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving 65 mph on a two lane road, the vehicle accelerated when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. The contact was injured. The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt did not tighten. The failure and current mileages were 17,000. Remailed 12/10/08.

Failure Date: 09/29/2008

The vehicle accelerateds when the brake pedal is depressed. Because the brake pedal and the gas pedal height is nearly the same height and when depressing the brake pedal you can also depress the gas pedal causing the vehicle to accelerate. The vehicle accelerates when the brake pedal was depressed.

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

While slowing for a red light, pressed brake pedal and vehicle immediately accelerated becoming uncontrollable. Collided with a pick up ahead ,which was pushed into a small compact ahead of it. Airbags did not deploy. Had experienced slight acceleration on a previous occasion, which was discussed with my mechanic. ( had also had this problem on my 1999 ranger which was resolved by replacing iac motor. ) vehicle currently in dealers shop, where service personnel are unable to replicate occurrence nor find source of problem. Ford motor company disclaims any knowledge of problem although many several similar events involving this model year are well documented. Vehicle is well within warranty parameters but little, if any, action is ongoing. I am reluctant to resume operation of this vehicle while condition persists.

The brake and accelerator pedals are too close together and at the same height. On numerous occasions, when attempting to brake I found myself accelerating since the brake and accelerator were both depressed. The pedals are not adjustable and I really have to concentrate when braking to avoid the accelerator pedal or my car just keeps on going.

40 Service Brakes problem of the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 04/12/2007

The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving 8 mph the vehicle did not stop when the brake was depressed. He stated that it was approximately 30 seconds before the vehicle stopped. The road conditions were clear. The vehicle was never inspected. Approximately four days later the contact experienced the same problem. He stated that his vehicle crashed into a wooden pole. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic to repair the damage as a result of the crash. The mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The current mileage was 36,000.

Failure Date: 09/28/2006

: the contact stated while normally applying the brakes, the vehicle lurched forward suddenly, requiring extreme pressure on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. It was taken to a service dealer, who was unable to determine the problem. Updated 10/18/2006 - prior to the above incident the vehicle lurched forward while approaching a stoplight. The more pressure the consumer applied to the brake pedal the more the engine raced. The vehicle continued to travel forward through the crosswalk and into the street. Luckily no one was in the crosswalk and no cars were coming through the intersection. The consumer has to turn the vehicle off to get it to stop.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 06/23/2006

The contact owns a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. After attempting to stop at a stop light, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but there was no response. He had to pump the brakes twice in order to stop the vehicle. The dealer could not remedy the failure. Approximately one month later, the failure recurred. The dealer could not duplicate the failure again. The failure occurred seven previous times, in which the vehicle was taken to the dealer four of those times. The vehicle has not been repaired. The speed was unknown. The failure mileage was 190 and current mileage was 37,000.

Nar 05/21/2003 with less than 250 miles the consumer brake pedal slowly sank to the floor. The consumer is requesting Ford motor company recall the vehicle and fix the brake problem.

Rear brakes lock up during a panic stop at 45-50 mph, tires were thumping and vehicle pulls to either side. Dealer examined vehicle and found no problem. Ts.

Consumer stated there was a rattling noise coming from the engine when cold, dealer informed consumer the timing gear needed to be replaced, also the dashboard vibrated, however dealer stated nothing was wrong, the trim panel was loose on the door, the left front door closed too hard, the vehicle would lean to the left and there was a noise coming from the front of the vehicle when turning a corner, dealer replaced the front frame supports, the instrument cluster was scratched, the steering column trim was replaced, the radio had a poor reception, there was a pulsation coming from the brakes, however the dealer could not duplicate the problem. 48 Service Brakes problem of the 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis

Problems with upper and lower ball joints and tie rods. The parts were replaced, some of them twice. Ford put ungreased parts on. Eventually they dried out again and started squeaking. If not replaced they would possibly break which could cause the driver to lose control, possibly causing injury or death. The front brakes were resurfaced.

49 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis

The consumer stated the front end of the vehicle was lower than normal which caused damage to the front end when parking. The dealership provided a temporary fix by putting shims under the front end. While driving at 15 mph in the rain, the vehicle suddenly lost power steering. The consumer had to use excessive force to steer. This resulted in injuries to the consumers arm. This failure was due to the tensioner pulley falling off. The parts were replaced. The driver side seat belt plate failed to lock in the buckle. The dealership replaced the entire seat belt assembly. Also, front rims have excessive brake dust. Dealer inspected brakes, but weren't able to duplicate concern of consumer.
