On several occasions since I've owned this vehicle (I am original owner) when I step on the brakes hard the engine accelerates. Recently it has gotten worse and I know I'm not touching the accelerator. Today it was so bad the I was standing on the brakes with both feet and burning rubber. I shifted to park and the engine went onto max acceleration. I shut of the engine and restated and found it was still at max acceleration. I shut it off again and waited 30 seconds. When I then restarted it ran normally. Fortunately I was at a stop sign or I think there would have been a collision if in traffic.

On 9/17/2003 @ 11:23 pm, my 1996 Grand Marquis caught fire under the hood and was totally destroyed while sitting idle in front of my house. The henrico county fire department was called. I have the fire report, which indicates that no cause for the fire was determined. In June 2014, I received a notification from Ford motor company stating that my 1996 Grand Marquis has a potential under hood fire risk. The issue as stated was that "Ford cannot be confident that after many years in service, the speed control deactivation switch in your vehicle will not leak, posing the risk of an under hood fire. Until this repair is performed, a fire could occur at any time. A fire can occur even if the key is not in the ignition, and can occur even if the speed control system is never used. " after receiving the letter, I filed a report with Ford to possibly get some form of compensation for my car since I my car was insured for liability only. Ford responded back that my claim was closed due to the fact that I know longer owned the car, and they were unable to inspect it. I find this to be absurd since the car was totaled, and not available for inspection.

When reversing out of driveway car accelerated on its own. Pressed brakes but car still moved backwards. Have skid marks in driveway to show for it. Threw car into neutral and turned off engine. Restarted and everything seemed normal. Drove car on trip and when reducing speed to slow down by pushing on brake car again accelerated and nearly hit another car. Again threw car into neutral and turned off engine. And again when restarting car everything seemed normal again. Wife is extremely afraid of driving car. Took car to dealer where it was purchased and was told that it may have been that I pushed the brake and gas pedal at the same time, this however, I believe is not the case. Dealership however kept the car for further investigation as to what the problem may be. Will hear in a day or two,.

Leaving work, approximately 150 feet from parking place to parking lot exit into road. When braking to stop before entering roadway, vehicle lurched forward with engine racing at a high rpm. Pushed into neutral until stopped then park with engine still racing. Turned off and sat still for a minute then restarted with no further problem. Mechanic cannot find anything wrong. Not the first time it has happened but was the worst incident with engine being uncontrollable.

Yesterday, Tuesday 23, 2014, I backed out of a parking spot on the parking deck about 15 feet and put the car in drive. It lurched forward at a tremendous high speed and although I hit the brakes, the auto slammed into the retaining wall at the parking spot I had just backed out of. I was wearing my seat belt and the air bag deployed. I received minor bruising on my arms, legs and ribs due to the air bag deployment. This auto has side air bag as well, but only the drive air bag deployed. I was checked out by a medic, who was staying at the resort and heard the crash. There were no witnesses. Ems arrived and checked me over. A police report was filed. . . Updated 06/26/14.

Gas pedal went all the way to the floor and would not release. I kept hitting the pedal to try and release it for about 2 miles. I kept my foot on the brake to try and slow the car down, but that didn't help. The floor mat was not under the pedal because it is too short to reach it. After hitting the pedal as hard as I could numerous times it released.

I applied the brakes at around 20 miles per hour on January 25 and the motor accelerated for one or two seconds. I was able to stop the car by pressing the brakes much harder than normal. On January 26 I applied the brakes at around 60 miles per hour and the motor again accelerated for one or two seconds. I continued to press the brakes, the motor slowed down and the car eventually slowed. It sounded like pressing the accelerator down hard to pass another car on a two lane road.

I am certified safety professional with over 30 years experience working in the occupational safety field. Twice within the last week, my vehicle accelerated to 5000 rpm while pressing the brake pedal to stop at an intersection. My foot was on the brake pedal and not on the gas pedal. I had to quickly shift into neutral to avoid entering the intersection into crossing traffic. Brakes would not hold. A few seconds after shifting into neutral the engine decelerated back to normal on its own. Carpet was not the issue. This is a serious malfunction that could have killed me or someone else.
The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving approximately 44 mph, the contact applied the brakes and there was an abnormal increase in engine rpms and the engine roared loudly. He then disengaged the overdrive feature and once the vehicle reached a speed of 30 mph, the vehicle operated as normal. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The failure and current mileage was 8,770.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving approximately 20 mph the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 21,680.
2000 Mercury Grand Marquis lunges forward (rpm increase @1000 and loud growl from engine compartment) when approaching a stop light and/or already stopped at a light. Everything returns to normal when I accelerate again, until the next light. This is an intermittent problem but very annoying. There have been no "incidents" from this since I now know to expect it, but I could certainly see an accident occurring as a result of this defect. I am reentering this as I think I marked the incorrect year make on my previous submission. It is actually a 2000.

Three times my 2004 Mercury marquis has had shown "prius like" problems. Once in dry summer , then twice in winter in the pacific NW. The last time I was into the intersection when I slammed on my parking brake to stop the car but the motor was still racing.
Car acceleration on its own, estimated start end of Dec. 2009. Estimates that it happens once a month, no clue as to when it will happen. Going to slow down / park, car starts to accelerate on its' own. , have to press hard on brake and use 2 feet. . Brought car into dealer 4 times between Jan thru June , at this point. Dealer says can't find anything.
Over the past several months, my 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis has suddenly stalled when I begin to accelerate after the car is stopped. It happened 3 times in forward mode and once in reverse. On two occasions, I had gotten several feet into the busy intersection and in one incident, an accident nearly occurred.
