2 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 11/24/2022

While driving vehicle brakes all of sudden go to the floor, no pedal response. This has happened a couple of times without warning. Once when I was approaching an intersection and light changed. My brakes all of the sudden went to the floor and I had to downshift and cut my wheels toward the curb to stop from crashing. Then a couple days later attempting to get it to mechanic it was fine and pumped properly. I wrote it off as a fluke. Then a few months later it happened again. My mechanic can't seem to find the issue and has charged me for new brakes, new master cylinder, new brake line, and another part for the abs power assistant. My car still continues to have this brake malfunction on and off. Somebody is going to end up getting hurt. This obviously is some kind of part defect. Please help!.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 01/26/2022

Second time the power brake pedal assembly has failed. The assembly failed in 19th February 2013 and had to be replaced by fremont Ford. The power brakes failed completely and it had to be towed in. The part is bm6z-2455-a. The power brake assembly electronics failed again in January 26 and I have to drive it into the dealership with failing brakes. I was informed that the part is no longer manufactured and is unavailable from Ford. Failure of brake electronics in this hybrid represents a hazard if the brakes fail from failing electronics and the car is unable to stop. We are currently searching for part from a scrapped vehicle. The car is currently at livermore Ford 1-925-273-7814. I think that the car should be recalled and defects in power brake module investigated and redesigned part should be installed before other cars brakes fail.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/03/2021

Couple weeks back, significant other encountered issue with brake signal coming on and needed to pretty much press the brakes to the floor to get it to brake. Took it to a nearby shop and they weren't familiar with the car, so they recommended to bleed the brakes according to error code and online. Signal went away for a bit. Signal came back with no immediate brake issue. Took to the dealership and they replaced some parts which also made the signal disappear for now. The parts were: booster brake (a booster asy - brake), a bush, a module. Assuming the part replacement effectively hid the issue like a brake bleed. Few days later while driving about 40mph later the brake signal came on, wasn't touching the brakes at the time. Went to brake and they weren't reacting normally and wasn't braking. Had to also pretty much press hard on the pedal and get the pedal to the floor to break. Pulled off to a side road and restarted the car. Issue disappeared upon restart. Assuming something that controls the brake booster turns off.

9 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 04/29/2021

2008 Mercury Mariner. The vehicle sporadically and intermittently brakes while driving and accelerating. This was a reported issue many years ago on these cars but Ford never issued a recall even though there are a number of braking issues with this vehicle. This makes the vehicle extremely dangerous to drive if your brakes without warning lock up. I contacted the local dealer and Ford corporate and they were of no help. I also filed an incident report with Ford corporate #cas31601808.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 01/30/2021

The abs hydrolic control unit has malfunctioned resulting in faulty brakes and dangerous driving conditions. I have to put the brake pedal to the ground to get any type of braking to be done. This takes extra seconds that could result in an accident if I had to suddenly brake. This seems to be a common problem and many Mariners and escapes have identical problems. I would like my VIN to be added to the recall list to have this problem fixed.

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 01/14/2021

The brake pedal goes straight to the floor leaves you with no brakes. This is due to the abs hydraulic control module failing same as other ones in Ford and Mercury's being recalled. This is terrible and dangerous and they refuse to help even though thousands of customers with Mariners and escapes are having identical problems. Does multiple people have to die before they recall these? this happened while on the highway at 65mph. Terrible and dangerous.

12 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/09/2020

Our son is driving this car wit 90k miles on it. Had 1200 of break work done after feeling like the pedal was going down too far and he could not stop well and then it ended up needing a new ehcu to the tune of 2600$. This is a very critical component and from what I read, there are a lot of people experiencing this problem. It should not fail and Ford as not issued a recall. I called Ford to see if there could be any assistance and they said no. Good cars are being junked for this reason and it is a severe safety issue.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/14/2020

After abs activated brake padel became soft. My vehicle has a simlar problem expained under ''safety recall 19s54 anti-lock brake system hydraulic control unit valve function''. Eventhough Ford recalled several unites, my VIN did not list under the recalled units.

14 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/10/2020

I started having problems with my brakes. When I step on the brake the pedal would go almost all the way to the floor. I would react by pumping the brake which would make them work. I didn't drive with the brakes doing that very long because I took the car to a repair shop and I spent 450 dollars on brake work with being told that the problem was with the abs system and the disabled the abs system so that it didn't interfere with stopping the car. There have been recalls on other Ford products because of abs problems. The problem occurred while I was driving every time I wanted to stop and when I stopped for a light I felt like the brakes might quit working and the car could enter the intersection.

15 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 05/16/2020

My 17 year old daughter came home saying a message was on her dash about her brakes in our 2008 Mercury Mariner hybrid. I was about to leave so I decided to take her car, as soon as I pulled out of the driveway and started down the hill we live on, I noticed the brakes didn't feel right, I pressed all the way down to get the car to slowly come to a stop, as I did this, I noticed a warning sound and the message on the screen said check brake system, regen brakes disabled. I immediately turned the car around and went home, when trying to stop in our driveway, again the brakes were not working properly causing us to almost hit the other car in the driveway. This is extremely concerning as this car is our 17 year old daughters car. Once you get the car to stop, if the car is powered off for a few minutes and back on the brakes work again. This is a safety issue and seems to be a common problem. This happened yesterday 5/16/2020, the car has 120k miles.

Failure Date: 09/29/2019

Tl- the contact owns 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contacted stated that the vehicle steering wheel would shake whether the vehicle was being driven or idle. The contact would have to turn the steering wheel about 50% of the way before the tires would turn as well. The steering wheel also emitts a clicking noise. The approximate failure mileage was 103,184. Lj.

18 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

I lost all braking ability and the pedal goes to the floor. This is a Mercury Mariner hybrid and Ford escape hybrid issue, it doesn't affect the non-hybrid models. Ford knows about this as there are hundreds and hundreds of complaints online about it and it's a $5000+ fix. I have not been able to drive my Mariner hybrid since 2018.

19 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/27/2018

Hcu (hydraulic control unit) failure meaning my hybrid vehicle can't brake whether in hybrid mode or normal mode and it's over a $5000 repair. My Mariner has been sitting in my driveway for close to 2 years now, unused, because of this known issue.

20 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/21/2018

Took to dealer for brake problems. Poor and unpredictable stopping, after over $ 500 repairs to brakes. Worked ok for a week now worst than they were before repairs. Brakes cannot be trusted.

21 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 12/05/2017

Power brake booster brake system lock on highway. Power steering went out while driving no warning . Almost had accident on snow due to bad. Transmission. Transmission went out on highway. Unable to start car ignition switch.

22 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/22/2017

My daughter was involved in an accident due to faulty brakes. We have had the vehicle in to have repairs at three different shops, the last two being at Ford. The first two shops could never get the brakes right. Ford finally got them to work for a period of time. They went out again. Ford had the car for another month- it takes months every time. Paid another $2445. And still no brakes. Have contacted Ford corporate and they refuse to help or give me documentation to that effect. Ford cases are cas-28178357 and cas-27857368. I have two other Mariners and this one just isn't right. Please advise my options. I don't want to sell or trade this with a problem that could possibly hurt or kill someone. Thanks!.

23 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/09/2016

Power steering stop working could not turn the steering wheel.

24 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/21/2016

This had been a great car for me until today. I learned the hydraulic control unit is bad and will require nearly $5000 to replace. It is not safe to drive. It had 105000 miles. It is not worth much more than $5k. I have no choice but to try and trade the car in. I laterally just gave it to my daughter for college on Saturday. She has always loved my car.

25 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/29/2015

Received an abs trouble code. Mechanic checked and said it was the abs tone wheel on the outter left front cv joint. Mechanic said this was a common problem with front tone wheels on the Mercury Mariners and should be recalled by Ford.

26 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

The anti-lock brick module has stopped working. The part alone is close to $1,200 to purchase. Upon investigating this problem we find that it is very common and tens of thousands of Ford built cars of this vintage have the same issue. Why hasn't there been a recall for such a common and critical issue?.

27 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

Tone ring snapped off of axle and caused the car to go into 2wd and apply the abs brakes when not actually being needed which almost ended up in rear ending a car when the failure occurred. Tone ring design needs looked it. This should not happen. Corrosion building up between the tone ring and axle seems to be what caused the force of snapping this ring. Just a poor design.

28 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

While I was driving on hwy doing 75mph my Mercury Mariner 2009 it suddenly loss power and (while engine was running) I could not accelerate. "tool" light came on. I could not do anything to regain speed (accelerator was disable) and the only fix was to shut down the engine and re-start. Vehicle will start and work normally I took to the mechanics the next day he said that no codes came up.

29 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

While driving my car stalls without warning then it jerks real hard and takes off so I have to ride the brakes after coming to a stop before I can press the gas peddle it takes off so I ride the brakes. While driving again it picks up speed on its own very scare please help.

30 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/30/2013

Car stalled while my granddaughter was driving on the highway. It also did not accelerate. She had to step on the brakes to get the car to move. She immediately got a diagnosis from auto zone (throttle body system open- p2111), then took the car to the Ford dealership where the problem was confirmed and repaired. An emergency light came on during this problem.

31 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 03/12/2012

L/h tone ring on axel cracked and threw an abs warning, brake service warning and 4wd light blinking. At approx 65,000 the r/h tone ring cracked as well but was small enough that it did not trip the sensor. I noticed a clicking sound when turning into parking spaces. This was fixed under my extended warranty. From searches on the internet this seems to be a design flaw of this weak part. Dealers try to get you to replace the entire axel which is not needed as did the Ford dealer in margate. Ford should be replacing these tone rings with a part with stronger tensile strength so it does not crack. This needs to be a recall as it will strand many who see all the lights and warnings go off and think they cannot continue driving. This is a poor design, a poorly made part and through it's dealer network a rip-off for customers who are told the entire axel needs replacement.

32 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/24/2011

Traveling at 35 mph and up , sometimes the vehicle would shutter and shake. Found a broken ring on the axle caused this problem. Took a few visits to the dealer to find it. It is very scary when it happens and you must pull over and shut the car off. Sometimes it would be weeks before it happened . Also, happened on the highway. This should have been covered under a safety recall. I had to pay for this repair.

33 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 04/17/2011

Coming to red light one car in front of me. I pushed down on brake petal and it was hard to push down. Engine revved up to over 5 rpm's and car wouldn't stop finally I put car in neutral and engine went back to idle position. Almost rear ended car in front of me. Took Mariner to dealer who wasn't very helpful because he never heard of this before & wanted to know if I wanted to leave Mariner there. Also ask if I had my foot on the gas petal instead of the brake. Dealer was unable to verify concern so they replaced canister purge valve. Have also had transmission problems with this Mariner that I believe still exist. Filled out surveys and was told manager would call but no one ever contacted me. Very unprofessional dealer.

34 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/29/2010

2008 Mercury Mariner. Consumer states safety issues with rotors the consumer took the vehicle to a mechanic to have the vehicle inspected. The mechanic stated the rotors for the front disc brakes were worn, pitted and rusted and needed to be replaced. It was verified when it was discovered that the brake pedal pulsed at speeds of 30 or 40 mph. The consumer then took the vehicle to the dealer who then asserted that the mechanic was wrong and that all vehicles have rust on their rotors. The consumer then took the vehicle back to his mechanic because of a continued pedal pulsation beginning at 30- 40 mph. The consumer then went to another dealership, who did indeed agree that the front rotors were rusted, pitted and unsafe. Also the rear drums were cracked and needed to be replaced. The abs was inoperative due to the tone rings had fallen off.
