2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/30/2017

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle shook, sputtered, and lost all power. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart, but was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a faulty coil pack that needed replacement. The contact stated that the independent mechanic replaced three coil packs; however, when the mechanic attempted to start the vehicle, the coil packs exploded and the vehicle shut off again. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the repairs were too large of a job for him and suggested the vehicle be taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The contact had not experienced an air bag failure. The failure mileage was approximately 43,200. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/09/2017

I was driving about 45 mph on a city street, when the car just shut down. I tried to give it gas, nothing happened. Steering wheel locked up. I still had power to the radio and lights but the car went limp. I was barley able to turn it into a parking lot for safety because the steering wheel locked up. I turned off the car waited a few minutes and started it back up with no problems. I am lucky I wasn't in traffic, because this would have caused an accident, it went from 45 mph to nothing in seconds.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/21/2013

Wrench icon appears and engine rpm drops and vehicle slows while unable to accelerate. Engine surges at idle slightly below 1,000 rpm. If vehicle is shutoff and then restarted it will operate for an unpredictable time/distance. Very dangerous to drive due to unpredictability. Vehicle has been driven approximately 140 miles since first shutoff and has shut off numerous time since. On 9/27/13 it shutoff four times in 12 miles. Wife is terrified to operate this car. Vehicle will remain parked because of potential life-threatening safety hazard. Hopefully a recall for this will occur.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 05/06/2013

The car was traveling at 30 mph when all of a sudden, without any warning whatsoever, the engine shut down. I had it towed and was told that the throttle body needed to be replaced. Cost was $387. 01. I don't feel that this should happen at 16,423 miles. (it had just passed warranty period. ) had I been traveling on an interstate this would have been a major safety problem.

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 04/22/2013

The vehicle stalls and requires pulling over to the side of the road. It sputters until turned off. Then will resume travel after restarting. This happened on multiple occasions in an intersection, on an off ramp, on a busy city street. The dealership initially said they didn't know what the cause was and that I should continue driving and see if it happened again. On July 7th, during a single drive home, the car shut down every couple of minutes and required my family & I pull over. We were on the side of the road many times on a busy highway, windy back roads--very scary not knowing when the car would fail, how fast cars behind us were travelling, whether or not cars would see us coming around a turn. . . Now they tell me the part needed is on back order because of the number of similar problems and they don't know when the part will be in. The car is way too dangerous to drive at this point so I am forced to pay for a rental car until the part comes in. Hoping for a recall!.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

While commuting to work the engine suddenly lost all power while traveling approx 50mph on rt 9a in ossining NY. Fortunately I was in thr right lane but did not have enough time or momentum to completely pull off the road. A state farm sponsored help truck arrived anf pushed me to the side. At my husband's suggestion he looked to see if leaves had clogged the intake/air filter. It did not . Then he disconnected the hose to the throttle valve and when he pushed it with the screwdriver the engine regained power. I turned around to try and meet my husband at a midway point. The engine shut down again but after restarting, it regained power. I switched cars with my husband and he sprayed the throttle valve with carburetor cleaner and headed home. The car stalled out on him but he was able to roll into a gas/convenience store in garrison NY and sprayed it again. Once home in cold spring he cleaned out the assembly as good as he could and the car worked well for the next 2 weeks. While visiting hungary for a family illness, my son used the car and reported that it began to stall out on him but unstuck? and he was able to return home. The car was brought to freedom Ford in beacon NY this morning for repair since it is not safe to drive in nyc commuter traffic.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

#1:shortly after purchasing the Milan the car began to just shut down while I was driving. I would have to coast to the side of the road, wait a few minutes & then it would restart. I again had it taken to the service center and they had to replace the throttle body. Now I am having this same problem again. This problem has began again. I again took it to the service center & they couldn't fix anything because they said that they couldn't get the car to mimic the problem. I have 2 young children and during one of the failures I was traveling on a rural country road with nowhere to pull off due to stone mountains on each side of the road. I had to wait in the middle of the road a few minutes until the car would cooperate and start again. This a serious safety issue. We all could've been killed and nobody would ever be able to figure out what happened because according to these technicians the car is fine. It needs to be known that the car is not fine and is dangerous to the drivers and other individuals on the road alongside these cars. #2:also, shortly after purchasing the Milan I was having trouble getting it started in the morning. The car would simply not start, wouldn't even try to turn over, the message board would say service advance trac the other electrical components in the car worked fine, the car couldn't be "jumped" either. After a few hours it would start up fine. Took the car to the service center and they reprogrammed the keys and now a year later I am having the same problem. Since the center states they cannot get the car to mimic this problem when the car is at the center they haven't fixed anything. At least once a week I have this happen and have to use an alternate means of transportation. My car now has 38,000 miles on it but these problems have been happening since about 24000. Help Ford adopt some of the aspects of "our credo values" by j&j!.
