Vehicle stall while sitting at light - car in drive. Car needed to be restarted. This happened multiple times in a row and finally was able to gas and accelerate. Let car sit for awhile, restarted and it stalled. Other times while idle - car in park, engine surges. I believe this is the throttle body issue previously reported by others.

5 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 03/06/2018

Takata too! I drove Milan to stop sign. As I went forward, went into 'limp home' mode (found term while researching). 1st time this ever happened. No forewarning! I was able to get car to crawl to the curb. Saw orange wrench light up. Shut off engine. When I restarted, I was able to drive short distance home. Next day, tried 3 times to start. It started, but quickly stalled each time. Towed to my mechanic. He checked computer, saw there was a problem. He doesn't do that work. Told me wrench and engine light come on. Towed to Ford dealership on Friday. It is now 9 days there, and day 11 will be Monday 3/19/18. I spoke 3 times to service dept. (same person), and am being told they are backed up with work, and haven't looked at my car yet. Each convo he says what day they should get to it, but have lied so far. So, not diagnosed yet. I have never received any notice from Ford about this possibly becoming an issue with my car. Also, I never received notice about 'takata recall'. I saw it on the internet and alerted service dept. To check that too. I was told they have to see if my car has that type of airbag. I researched and saw the Ford consumer program 13n03. That investigation involves 2009-2013 Milans. Extended warranty 10 yrs or 150,000 miles. I know this is the problem with my car. I bought it may 2011 with under 52,0000 miles on it. Not even 7 yrs yet, and I have under 60,000 miles on it because it's only for local driving. It's the only vehicle I have and I can't get rental car help thru insurance unless my car was in an accident. Ford won't help on a loaner car either. Now, I believe Ford has a protocol they are following to 'get out' of any free repairs. The nccc suggests phoning 1-800-392-3673 if I never received letter, but that phone number is Ford! seriously? should I bother? this is in staten island, NY. Beware! can I please get any help on what to do?.

6 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 06/04/2017

I was on my way back from a trip and my car stalled out multiple times. I would be going at highway speeds and it would just cut out. I was able to safely get into the service lane and restart the car with no problem, but then it would happen again. After 7 times of this happening in about an hour, I eventually pulled over and waited for a tow. I did my research and found out that this is a common issue with Mercury cars in my model year due to faulty throttle body issues. Because the problem was so widespread, Ford issued an extended warranty that would cover a throttle body repair for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever came first. Based on this information, it seemed like my car would be covered. However, after taking it to the dealership, they claimed that it would not be covered because my VIN doesn't match the lists and estimated the repair at $500-$700. This is completely crazy to me because it obviously happens to cars like mine and has been fixed by the company at no cost. I believe I should also receive that benefit. I talked to the company and have lodged a formal complaint, and I will also be sending a letter because this is just not acceptable. Stalling on a highway going 70+ is dangerous and I could have been seriously injured or even killed had I been hit.

10 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

I was driving on the highway going about 70mph when my car jolted. Then from there it decelerated very fast. I pushed on the gas and nothing it felt like it was in neutral with nothing happening. I quickly was able to get into the breakdown lane but due to being in the high speed lane I almost got hit by 2 cars. As I pulled over it felt like the car was about to stall. I shut the car off and waited. I turned it back on and it drove fine. About 2 months ago I had stopped at a stop sign and when I went to drive my car again felt like it was in neutral no matter how much I pressed on the gas it did not go anywhere. . . Even though it was in the drive gear. I shut it off and turned it on and it was fine. My car feels like it hesitates and bucks sometimes when I am driving also. This seems extremely dangerous seeing as I was almost in an accident yesterday on the highway. I was told I needed to see if my VIN was part of the campaign recall to get this fixed. I will say if I find out its not part of the recall even though its listed in it then I will never by a Ford or Mercury every again because it shows they could care less about how dangerous something is and its fords fault no fault of mine!.

13 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

My 2008 Mercury Milan stalls and accelerates rapidly when driving. I have to place my feet on the brakes and gas at stops because the engine increases power and the car actually jumps at times without my foot being on the pedal. There is no warning before this rapid acceleration and I have actually almost hit other cars because of this defect. My vehicle stalled a couple of days ago and I took it to a local dealership and I was informed that I needed to replace the following items. 1. Power train control module 2. Ignition coils 3. Spark plugs 4. Throttle body I called Ford's customer service and explained that the car was dangerous to drive and I was informed that it was nothing the company could do to assist me.

14 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

I was driving down the highway traveling at approximately 60mph when the car suddenly stalled and I was not able to accelerate. The wrench light came on at the same time as well. I turned on my hazard lights and was able to coast to the shoulder of the road. The car started to shake a lot as it slowed down. I turned the car off, and was able to start back up again. The very next morning while traveling a 50mph on a different highway the same thing happened again. I took it to the dealership to have a diagnostic run on the car as I had no idea why it was stopping. As I was about to turn into the dealership traveling at 25mph it stalled again. The result of the diagnostic test was there was a code stored in system of the electronic throttle body. It was giving a code for being stuck open when it should not have been. It was a failed component. . Read more...

15 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

Car idle at stop sign, accelerated into highways to make a left turn, loss of power, engine accelerating, but car moving very slowly, stalled. I pulled the car over on the side of the road, and turned the engine off. When I restarted the car a few minutes later, I was able to drive home without any problem. Then, a few days later, as I was on the way to flow auto in winston-salem, nc, about 6 miles from my home, the car stalled during another left hand turn from a stoplight. I purchased this car less than 3 months ago. It had 36,205 miles on it at purchase. Flow auto says the problem is the throttle drive and it isn't covered under the warranty. Within 90 days of purchase, I have to pay $662 for a repair that has been reported thousands of times by owners of Ford focus and Mercury Milan owners, since the car was produced.

16 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 11/08/2013

On 5 different occasions during the past week while driving between 70 and 80 mph on the freeway the vehicle stalled and went into limp mode. On one occasion this nearly caused an accident as the vehicle stopped in the middle lane of a three lane highway. No warning lights displayed other than "limp mode light" when the vehicle engine goes to idle. Upon shutting vehicle off and restarting, vehicle behaves as normal with no indicator/warning lights. Took vehicle to shop to get check engine codes, vehicle shows no error codes.

17 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/20/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the wrench warning icon illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The dealer was made aware of the failure and stated that without the engine warning lamp being illuminated when placed on the diagnostic machine, they were not able to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 29,000.

18 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

Passing another vehicle when my car suddenly stalled. If it wasn't for the quick thinking of the car I was passing, who sped up, I would have not had time to pull back into my lane in time to avoid a collision with an oncoming car. I had to pull off the road and put the car in park and restart it. It ran fine after that. Unfortunately, this stalling and rough running has happened on several occasions. From what I have read, it looks to be a problem with the throttle body. As you can see, this can be very dangerous when it happens at the wrong time. I never know when it will happen as there is no warning.

20 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/24/2013

My 2010 Mercury Milan premier stalled - check engine came on - I was unable to move forward as it seemed it was trying to move forward but would not - had the code checked and it was p2112 - throttle actuator-control system - stuck closed permanent was the message for this code - was not expecting this at all - was driving perfect and this happened suddenly - my concern is had this happened on an interstate highway - what would I have done? from what I read this is very dangerous - and is there a recall for this safety concern?.

21 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

I bought my car with around 20,000 miles on it and experienced jerking, rough idling, and a complete loss of power when driving. I returned it to the dealership a total of 3 times for this issue. I was told it was a transmission issue and they were resetting something that had to do with the computer in the transmission. After the first instance of the car stalling, I googled any issues with my particular vehicle and came upon a throttle body problem. I mentioned this to the dealership on several occasions and was told that this was not a common issue, nor was it the problem with my vehicle. Last week, I was driving to work, my car completely stalled while going 75mph on a 4 lane highway. I was almost rearended by the semi that was behind me as my car's speed suddenly, and without warning, dropped by over 15mph. I made my way to the right side and slowly coasted up an off ramp to get off the highway (as there was no shoulder). Even if you press the gas, nothing happens. You do not accelerate at all. I turned the car off and restarted it. I drove maybe 5 minutes and it stalled again. I had to restart my car a total of 5 times on the 7 mile drive to work that day and was almost hit by other cars just about every time. I called my personal mechanic and had it towed to him instead of the dealership because I was told that this was a different issue than my previous 3 visits to the dealership and Ford would not be covering it under my warranty. The mechanic replaced the throttle body and my car runs perfectly now. He said when he called around to get a party he had a horrible time even finding one because they are on back order due to this being such a huge issue across the country. I've been telling the dealership for 25,000 miles and almost 2 years this was what was wrong with my car and now its suddenly not covered under my warranty.

22 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

Vehicle stalls out , no rpm's, over $400 in repairs to an item that should last a lifetime in a vehicle, I understand this is a common problem in Ford fusion and Mercury Milan's. The electronic throttle body should be a recalled item. This could cause an accident if vehicle stalls on a major highway.

23 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

While leaving work, vehicle rpm's dropped and car surged and nearly stalled out, pushing accelerator made no increase in power then "wrench" light illuminated on dash cluster, pulled off to side of road with brakes applied, and put car in neutral, rpm's low and fluctuating. Shut engine off. Started engine, no sign of "wrench" light, car made trip home, but rpm's fluctuated at stops, engine surging. Performed internet search, found NHTSA action number : pe13003 which contains very similar issues for other owners of 2010 Mercury Milan. Very scary and very lucky not to have issue on freeway, or in traffic. Thank you for your time, sincerely, jason dziadosz.

24 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/12/2013

I've experienced several instances of my vehicle stalling while in motion at various speeds (30-65 mph). At the dealership it was determined that the problem is with the throttle & the part is on back order. It is my only means of transportation & cannot get it repaired. Despite the low mileage, I am being told that this is not covered under the manufacturer's warranty. This issue is not due to wear & tear but to a manufacturer's mechanical failure. Why is the consumer responsible for the repairs to a preexisting problem in these cars?.

25 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/08/2013

This has happened to me many times over the last month at least 12 times. This occurs at various speeds, the car will stall or nearly stall. I am unable to acceleralte. I have to coast to a safe location turn the key off put the car in park and restart the car. Luckly the car has restared everytime. The wrench warning light comes on after the near stall, but goes off after I restart the car. When I come to the stop the engine seems to be trying to run but has no power and the idle is very rough. I went to the dealer and they said it sounds like the throttle body. This seems to be a know problem but I don't see a recall on it? when it goes into the near stall I have no acceleration and puts me in a very dangerous position as I try to jockey to a safe location with no power.

26 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled as the wrench warning icon illuminated. The contact merged to the shoulder and shut off the engine momentarily. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 60,000.

27 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

While attempting to accelerate, the vehicle appeared to stall and the wrench indicator showed on the dash. The vehicle had no power and idled very rough. After pulling off the road I shut the car off and restarted it, the indicator light was still on and I had no throttle. The only way I was able to get the vehicle to move was to clear the code using a code reader. This allowed me to get the vehicle safely home. I was able to drive it to the dealer however, since I cleared the code to make the vehicle operational they would not correct the issue because their diagnostic equipment didn't see anything wrong. Even with me providing them the code that was indicated (p2112) and offering to provide them the TSB that was issued and the NHTSA #.

28 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

Driving to work one morning my car appeared to stall without warning on the incline of a viaduct. It slowed dramatically without me braking, so there were no brake lights to warn other drivers. I was fortunate the driver behind me was paying attention and did not run into me. I made an emergency maneuver to get off the road, and called aaa for a tow. While on hold with aaa, I restarted my car. It appeared to be working normally, so I went to work without incident. Later in the day my car seemed to stall again on the way to lunch. This was in a remote area with no other traffic. Again it restarted, and worked fine on my return to work. While driving home it happened a third time in a construction zone. I had to pull over near huge rollers that were leveling newly laid asphalt. Luckily it started again and I merged back into construction traffic and drove home. I called the Ford dealer I bought the car from. They told me over the phone it sounded like another bad throttle body. I got a ride to work the next day, and took it in as soon as I could get an appointment. The Ford dealer replaced the throttle body, and I have had no problems since.

29 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

The vehicle stalled while driving at 55 mph. No power to accelerate and had to pull over on hwy. Happened a second time while accelerating at a green light.

30 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/11/2013

As I entered the freeway at 60 mph begin to stall and then losing power I put my flashers on hoping I don't get run over the car stops no power to steer and I'am at the mercy of speeding vehicles. I'am on a fixed income. And do not have the funds. I purchased the vehicle from town east Ford mesquite texas.

31 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

This has occurred several times now. I will be driving and the car will suddenly stall and decrease in speed. There have been several times that I have almost been hit by another car as well. I went to Ford and they told me my throttle body needed to be replaced, so I did that. Approximately a year later the same thing started to occur. I took it back and they said they did an update, however about two months later the same issue occured. I took it back to Ford because I am under warranty and they kept my car for 4 days and said they could not find the issue. Recently now only the battery and the oil canister comes on, but when it stalls out now it jerks really hard going forward then stalls out. It is very dangerous and I am afraid to drive my car. I called Ford as well and they said there was nothing that they can do. It's sad to see other people are experiencing the same thing and they won't do anything I will never buy a Ford again.

32 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/27/2013

While travelling 40 mph the vehicle suddenly stalled and all of the lights came on in the dash. The vehicle appeared to go into the limp mode. After pulling over to the side of the road, I was able to restart the vehicle.

33 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/24/2013

First time the engine quit twice at stop signs. Since then it has stalled at least five times, the last one on a freeway at 60 miles per hour during rush hour. Had the car towed to the Ford dealership, they ran a diagnostic and could find no problems, no codes. They did find the battery cables were a little loose and tightened them. They advised driving the car and seeing if it happened again. I am talking to the dealership about this as there clearly is a problem and driving it without a repair only sets a potentially dangerous situation when the car stalls again.

34 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/24/2013

First incident car killed twice at stop signs. Since then it has stalled at least 7 times, the last time on the freeway at 65 miles per hour during rush hour. It was only with the help of two highway helpers who blocked lanes on the freeway was I able to exit safely. Had the car towed to the Ford dealership, they ran a diagnostic and no codes were found. They were unable to identify and fix the problem so suggested just taking the car and see if it happens again. In other words, even though the car has stalled at least 7 times, take it out on the freeway again and hope for the best. I advised Ford that was not acceptable and refernced the NHTSA action number pe13003. I have requested they replace the electronic throttle body as the car is not safe to drive.

35 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

Driving in city traffic when the car began to stall. Almost rear ended by the car behind me. Wrench light came on and the car stopped. I turned it off and then back on and was able to creep to a shoulder when it stalled out again. $500 repair and $55 tow. My mechanic told me the Ford motor CO. Was well aware of the problem and that it has been happening when the mileage gets around 50,000 miles. This is inexcusable. I'm going to sue them in magistrates court on Monday.
