I have a Mercury Monterey which nearly got my wife and I killed by a rear-end collision. It just all of a sudden died no power nothing just like all these other complaints of transmissions malfunctions. I am on social security and need my vehicle I stopped my daughter in law from driving it she has 4 children and her some where losing power with those children is not a good thing I will go visit the Mercury dealership this week to see what they say. I still owe 2 years of payments on this vehicle and can not afford to buy another vehicle.
I was driving a 2005 Mercury Monterey minivan and lost power. The engine continues to run but I cannot go anywhere. This has not happened with this vehicle before. Have not replaced anything yet, as this just happened today - easter Sunday April 24, 2011.
On Feb 7, 2011,after exiting i10, I stopped my 2005 Monterey van at my grandson's home. As I restarted I backed out and switched to forward gear. As I pressed the accelerator, nothing happened. I tried all gears and same result. Checking google, I found out that this has happened to thousands of 2005 Monterey vans and Mercury/Ford has done nothing to rectify this major problem with the transmission. My dealership quoted me a price of over$2,100 to fix. I believe that this is Ford's bill and I shouldn't be responsiible for their extremely poor engineering.
The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Monterey. While driving approximately 65 mph when the vehicle stalled; however, he was able to drive onto the emergency lane and shut the engine off. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where he was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 62,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My son was driving my 2005 Mercury Monterey with his 2 year old and 9 year old in the van down a very busy road at approximately 50mph when all of a sudden the van's engine started racing and all power was lost. He was forced to get off the road with no power. Once off the road he checked all gears and nothing worked. We had to get it towed to our house to await going to the shop on Monday. Now that I have looked online I see that there are hundreds of claims about a faulty transmission that you are currently investigating. Our van did exactly what happened and almost cause a major accident with my son and two grandkids.
On July 23th 2010, I was driving my 2005 Mercury Monterey up an incline then all of a sudden the vehicle went to a brief acceleration. I let go of the acceleration pedal , then went to accelerate again, I had no power. The engine would rev but it was not engaged to the transmission. Luckily I was a able to coast down the hill and pull off to a safe spot. I had the vehicle towed and was told the transmission had went. I had the Ford dealership install a new transmission in the vehicle. The vehicle had 55,000 miles on it. The vehicle before then showed no signs of transmission trouble. After further research I noticed there has been multiple complaints regarding the same issue.
Driving down route 3 virginia. . . Car stopped having forward propulsion. Had to have it towed 65 dollars. And then to shop. . They are saying 3500 + for replacement. Transmission - needed at less then 65,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Monterey. While driving at approximately 30 mph during rainy and snowy weather conditions, the vehicle suddenly lost power. He had to take his foot off the brake and roll backward to get into the emergency lane. The vehicle was then towed to a dealership where it was located at the time of the complaint. The dealer advised the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact had not called the manufacturer in regards to the failure. The contact is unable to provide a vehicle identification number at the time of the complaint. The failure and current mileages were approximately 54,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Monterey. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle began stuttering and shifting hard. The vehicle was taken to a transmission center where the contact was informed that the failure was caused by the automatic transmission which needed to be replaced. The mechanic pulled the pan from the transmission and found copper shavings attached to the magnet area. The vehicle was repaired at the transmission center. When the contact called the manufacturer, he was told that he was responsible for the repair costs. The failure mileage was 89,048.
Driving down the road and lost all power to front wheels. Fluid levels good. Fluid not burnt or discolored.
Transmission issues, will just go out while driving down the freeway! engine will then shut off leaving me without anyway to steer or brake!.
I drove my 2005 Mercury Monterey to take my daughter to school this morning and came right home. About two hours later, had to leave and started car. I put car into reverse and nothing happened. Without any warning what so ever, my car no longer appears to have a working transmission. No matter what gear it is in, nothing at all happens. Car has just been towed to mechanic to be looked at first thing in the morning. Car has just over 53,000 miles. After reading the numerous other victims of this transmission problem, I am thankful it at least happened at my own home rather than being out somewhere with my kids in tow - or worse off while driving! still doesn't make this any better of a situation to be dealing with.
My wife was backing out of a parking space at her job. She then put the vehicle in gear and it would not move. The transmission quit working without warning. There were no warning lights or any sign of a problem prior to the incident. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership.
Took the kids to the movies and drove around town for a good part of the day. About an hour after getting home I had to go to the store I got into the van and started the engine the rpms went up to about 4k. I backed out of the driveway and put the van into drive. The rpms went up again to about 4k again. After driving for about 20 feet the van lost power, then engine was still on but the van would not move. I stepped on the gas and the engine turned off. Per the Ford dealer it appears to be a transmission problem that is currently being investigated and might not be covered by my extended warranty.
Please add me to your already long list of people begging for a recall on the 2005 Mercury Monterey transmission issues.
2005 Mercury Monterey vehicle lost propulsion while traveling down the road in drive. Would not move in drive or reverse. No warning or previous signs of ensuing failure. Van is en route to dealer for diagnosis. Van has less than 50,000 miles on it. We were very lucky that the failure occurred on a roadway that enabled us to pull out of harms way. Four women passengers were able to push the vehicle into a parking lot for hauler to pickup. Waiting for word from the dealer on course of action.
Vehicle. . . Just slowed down from 65 mph . . . Coasted to a stop. Engine runs fine but vehicle did not move with transmission selector in any position, reverse, drive, etc.
2005 Mercury Monterey 4. 2 l automatic transmission - transmission stopped pulling while driving over railroad tracks - coasted to parking lot.
2005 Mercury Monterey. Consumer writes in regards to reimbursement for transmission replacement the consumer stated he received a check from Ford motor company for $1,450. 00 to cover the expense of replacing the transmission. However, the consumer stated he paid $ 2077. 11 and would like the entire amount to be paid.
My wife was driving on sr528 at night in our 2005 Mercury Monterey coming home from work. While driving over the indian river bridge, the engine revved up on her and acted like it was in neutral. There was no warning whatsoever which placed her in a very dangerous situation. Every gear (reverse, d, 3, 1) acts like it's in neutral. Now the minivan is sitting at a gas station while we wait to find out the cost of repair. The van has 57000 miles and we've had it less than 3 years. This is apparently a common failure happening with the 2004 and 2005 Ford/Mercury minivans. Is Ford waiting for someone to get hurt or even worse before they do something? I'm extremely disappointed being a 7 time Ford purchaser.
With no warning, the transmission will go out leaving the vehicle unable to drive. I had to have the transmission replaced. This is a known issue with these minivans.
Driving my Mercury Monterey when suddenly there was no transmission. The dealer states a new transmission is required for 4500.
Driving on i35 at 75 miles per hour with the cruise control engaged. I had been driving for approximately 2 hours. The car engine just started racing with no warning, I took the cruise off and had lost all ability to move forward or reverse. I had the entire family in the car. I am 800 miles from home and it will be 2 days for the fix. They estimate approximately $1800. The van is less than 3 years old and has 47,000 miles. This is hazardous and I can not believe that Ford does not recognize this as just doing and internet search on this these transmissions seem to fail around the 45k mark with no warning at all. I am currently stranded and hope that the fix will be done tomorrow.
The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Monterey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the rpms went higher than normal. She was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road but could not steer or move after that. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed her that she needed to replace the transmission. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
