1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2011

I purchased a used 2005 Mercury Monterey on January 22nd 2011. During test drive it felt great. Two days later I am feeling a jerking when taking off from a dead stop. I starting checing on line to see if there are problems with this vehicle. I was shocked to find over two hundred complaints of transmission failure! why is it with so many similar incidents or problems that no one is doing anything about it?.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2010

Driving down the highway at a speed of 55 mph when my transmission just failed. I had no gears (forward or reverse) and had the van towed to the repair shop. The vehicle is a 2005 Mercury Monterey with about 81,000 miles.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

Transmission failure of our 2005 Mercury Monterey Mini-van with only 66,000 miles on it left my wife and kids stranded on a dirt road in the country far from the city. We got the van fixed and the new transmission went out again 8000 miles later. Ford needs to recall these transmissions before someone gets hurt.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2010

We have a 2005 Mercury Monterey van. I have read numerous reports regarding transmission failures in which the us government has failed to react to. It happened to my wife and I on Sunday, June 21, 2010 at approximately 9pm while traveling on a busy 4 lane road. We were proceeding home and the transmission completely dis-engaged leaving us powerless in the left lane of the road. Fortunately we were able to avoid traffic and safely get the vehicle off the road. What I don't understand is the neglect associated with this defect as I have read numerous reports of families put in harm's way with the associated transmission problems that the NHTSA and Ford are aware of. Have eyes been turned because this is an american company? you guys jumped all over Toyota for problems. I expect an answer!.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

2005 Mercury Monterey transmission failure.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

2005 Mercury Monterey transmission. As noted in other posts, my wife was traveling to work at 6:15 in the morning (dark), heard a strange sound and immediately the cars systems all stopped and she struggled to get it to the side of the road. Aaa towed the car to a well known a reputable repair service and they were able to very quickly diagnose a complete transmission failure. Estimated cost of the repair was $2500-3000. Dealer cost before discounts was $3795 down to $2217. Dealer, fiesta Lincoln Mercury in mesa, az. Refuses to acknowledge that this is a known serious issue. Mileage on the vehicle is 40,292. As is so with many others, I am in no position to lay out that kind of money, so vehicle is sitting in our driveway. I understand that investigations like this can take some time, but we are dealing not only with a significant repair issue and a safety issue. I find it amazing that no one has been hurt or killed when their vehicle fails in the middle of a freeway.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Monterey and while drivign 60 mph the transmission failed. The failure only happened once. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. The failure miles were 74382 and 75301 are the current miles.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2009

While driving way back home from work the transmission failed all of sudden causing me stranded on the middle of highway during heavy rush traffic hours. End up spending $175. 00 for towing and when called the next day to Ford dealer and Mercury dealership was approximately $3500. 00 to $4500. 00. Repaired the transmission from other transmission shop spending $2500. 00.

9 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

2005 Mercury Monterey, transmission sudden failure while wife was driving the vehicle. The vehicle has 34,000 miles on it. Ford refused any repairs citing it was 8 months out of warranty. It would appear this is a very common problem for Ford and they have chosen to not address it for their customers. This does seem to be a significant safety risk although we were fortunate to be able to steer the vehicle into a safe place and then have it towed.
