The contact owns a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer. He has experienced several failures with the vehicle. In an attempt to diagnose the failure the vehicle was taken to several different repair centers, to no avail. When contacting his local dealer the contact was advised that the vehicle would need several repairs including a failed radiator, thermostat, water pump, brake drums, rotors and a grease treatment, all at his own expense. The manufacturer was contacted and would not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000 and the current mileage was 107,253.

Had warped rotors within first 2,000 miles. Ford would only ground rotors but dealer replaced them at no charge. I have also experienced a loud, thumping noise when I am making a sharp turn to left or right at a very low speed. Also, often when putting car in reverse many times there is a large thump and vehicle appears to shift hard. Finally, when stopped on a steep hill, after removing foot from brake, vehicle rolls backwards many times.

When we took our vehicle in for the brakes to be checked, the rotors were so badly damaged from the metal peeling that they had to be replaced. The mechanic told us that for a vehicle with the amount of miles that ours had on it that this should never have happened unless the parts were defective. He told us to check for a recall on this part.

We have had this vehicle in to two different dealerships at least 6 times for the same problem. They now say that rotors are below specs, and that someone has turned them to get them that way. All brake parts on this vehicle are original and have only been serviced by a registered Mercury dealership. I ahve talked to the Mercury customer assistance department two times also about this problem. We cannot get anywhere but they now say we must rebuild the brake system on the front of this vehicle at our expense. The original problem was a grinding dragging noise from the front that has went on for over 6 months. We are just seeking satisfaction and for Mercury to correct their problem.
At low speeds abs would kick in, and consumer could feel pulse in brake pedal. Mechanic said that rotors rusted and delaminated.
