3 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 03/20/2017

While driving the vehicle, the seat suddenly went all the way back and the interior lights came on. This has happened several times since then, we finally figured out it was the ignition, with the car acting like the key just got put in the ignition or just pulled out, and the seat moving all the way back for easier ingress/egress and the courtesy lights coming on. Since I am only 5 foot 4 inches, when the seat moves back I can no longer reach the petals, a very dangerous situation while driving.

4 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

I purchased a vehicle on March 11, 2017 from a dealership named redefined auto sales in skokie, IL. Since I have purchased this vehicle, I have spent over $1,500 in costs for repairs to this vehicle, beginning with I had to get an oil change on the same day that I purchased the vehicle because the change oil required light came on as soon as I exited the expressway in route from the dealership. Also, as I was en route from the dealership, on the expressway a motorist tried to cut me off and that is when I found out that the horn was not working. Things have just went downhill from there.

5 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

I purchased a used vehicle from redefined auto sales located in skokie, IL on 3/11/17. Since then I have spent over $1500. 00 in cost for repairs on this vehicle, beginning with I had to get the oil changed the same day that I bought the vehicle because the change oil required light came on as soon as I exited the expressway, I almost got into a serious accident on the expressway in route from the car dealership because a motorist tried to cut me off and that is when I discovered that the horn was not working. The next day the power door locks stopped working and things just has went down hill since then, the vehicle is in the shop right now as I'm typing this, I have not driven the vehicle anywhere other than back and forth to repair shops. I filed a complaint with the bbb but nothing was done about the complaint because the business responded saying the vehicle was used and I rejected the response and then received an email from the bbb saying that the case was closed. This vehicle was a lemon with a lot of issues and none of those issues were disclosed to me when I purchased the vehicle.

While driving 50 mph vehicle stalled three times. Took it to a garage, was told it was necessary to have the vehicle when it stalled. Found eleven (11) similar complaints on your site! perhaps there is some validity to the complaints. All parts of the vehicle related to safe driving were rendered useless. Sounds like a safety issue to me!.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

There is a manufacturing fault with the position of the brake and the gas pedal. It is very easy to move the right foot from the gas to the brake and leave enough of the foot on the gas at the same time. It allows the brake to be pressed but also applies gas to give a vehicle a surge while braking. Had the same situation with a 2001 Ford taurus and Ford issued a recall notice to have the placement of pedals changed.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

Truck cooling system died which caused the truck to catch fire while driving down the highway, smoke poring out, state troopers had to assist us. My daughter was scared to death and now refuses to get back in the truck even though we got a new engine. To make matters worse we spent 3000 on and engine. . . 500 on cooling system and had the transmission reprogrammed. The truck is still have major problems and now for says it needs the transmission rebuilt or replaced. All of this is out of pocket. We cant even trade it in bc they will only give us 1/2 of what we paid for it 2 yrs ago. Nightmare and makes me sick that Ford doesn't care.

Failure Date: 03/24/2012

While I was parking the car in the garage, I came to a stop about 12 inches from a file cabinet against the back wall. Then I put the car in reverse to move back a few inches for better clearance. All of a sudden the car unexpectedly accelerated forward and crashed into the file cabinet and totaled it plus damaged the front bumper, grill and hood. Note that applying the brake did not stop it. Very thankful that no one was in the front of the car when this happen.

12 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 12/14/2008

While coming up to a red light, the vehicle started making a clunking noise and the brake pedal went to the floor when I tried to stop for the red light. I also lost power steering. Luckily, I finally got the SUV to stop after I pumped the brakes and I was able to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I was close to my home so I slowly drove to my house using the emergency brake to stop if necessary. I contacted Mercury who towed the SUV to their shop the next day on the 15th of December. They have had the vehicle all day on the 15th and 16th and told me that I could pick it up on the 17th. They couldn't, however. Find anything wrong with the vehicle and said the computers say everything is fine. They claim there is nothing wrong and are giving me the vehicle back.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 05/26/2008

My Ford Mountaineer 2008 transmission is erratic and the traction control light comes on when the slipping is taking place. Braking is also erratic as I feel a bumping while braking to a stop. It is very dangerous as it feels like to transmission and brake/traction control system is about to go. I called Ford and they have know of the problem since 2006 as the transmission used (6r60) continually needs software updates. According to the dealer, most all of these vehicles with this transmission eventually have the problem but very rarely with the base warranty period, so now all of us have to pay but Ford has know of the problem even b/4 my vehicle was manufactured. . . . . . . . . What do I do, Ford is not recalling for this a shifting the risk of the accident and repair to the consumer. Please help and let me know what my next step might be. . . . Thank you.

The air bag did not go off after the impact. . Took the car in after repair to front of car was done. The dealer's service department could not find anything wrong. 01/10/08 on June 17, 2008, my husband was parking the car to let me out to go to the doctor's office, the SUV would not stop until my husband put the SUV in park and shut the engine off.

15 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 05/14/2007

When making a sudden stop, the brake pedal goes to the floor while maintaining pressure on the brake pedal. When holding vehicle on a steep incline (stopped), the pedal goes to the floor. Had it back to Ford dealers and was told this is a normal condition for explorers and Mountaineers even though service managers and the mechanics have told me there was a problem when they initially checked the brakes. I have started the paperwork for the nys lemon law procedure. I have put the first complaint of this in the approx. Accident date box. This happens whenever you use the vehicle.

When I attempted to stop on a dry day going approximately 20 mph my brakes did not operate properly. They grabbed and then released with a forward motion. I continued to apply pressure with both feet and the brakes still reacted in the same fashion. Subsequently I hit the car in front of me. I had the car towed to the Mercury dealer and they stated they could find nothing wrong. I am concerned and actually worried about driving my car.
