My 2006 Mercury Mountaineer was leaking coolant due to a crack in the radiator. After searching online forums, I have learned that has been a long standing issue with many of this vehicles owners. Unfortunately for owners, Ford issued a tbs in 2009 just in time for most of the affected vehicles' warranties to expire. Some owners are on their 3rd or more radiator replacement, I am only on my first. I petition that Ford recalls this issue before myself and others have to repeatedly pay for this clear design problem with their hard owned money. This problem also poses safety risk to the passengers operating these vehicles and to any animals attracted to the sweet smell of the coolant from affected vehicles whose owners who may not yet know this issue or cannot afford to fix it.

I have gone through 3 radiators so far and now I need a 4th. This time, the radiator caused the pumps to start leaking ( which are not serviceable) and eventually ruined my transmission, rendering the truck non-drivable. This problem has cost me thousands of dollar and I want a recall to start on this part with Ford.

I was driving on the highway and noticed that my steering was not working well. My engine was overheating and eventually shut off. I had to pull over on the side of the highway. When I got someone to look at the car, we realized it had no coolant. We filled up the coolant and everything seemed fine. About a month later I noticed that the engine was making the same noise as it had before as if it were working too hard. I checked the coolant and it was completely empty again. I have a friend who also owns the mm and had the same problem. The repair and cost of a new radiator was 1500. Ford/merucy needs to do a recall on this product and get it taken care of. I just purchased this car in January and should not have to be spending so much money on a repair.

The radiator coolant system is junk. Busted seals and hoses all the time. Iam beginning to think this car is a lemon. I replaced my radiator less than 1 year ago, had the part replaced with the factory part Ford supplies and once again I have a busted seal and have to replace the radiator again. When are they going to recall this part? seriously I've done my research and the radiators on these vehicles busting isnt an isolated incident. Is Ford going to pay $400. 00 dollars every 6 or so months to replace my radiator. I wish someone would file a class action law suit or something.

I have leak in my radiator, and after doing some research on the internet I found out that there is alot of complaints about that type of radiator in that vehicle, and every one of the cases is identical and now I am the next victim of this radiator failure. Some thing needs to be done about the radiator problems Mercury is having on the 2006 Mountaineers. My vehicle is very well maintained and don't even have 60,000 miles on it yet. I completely understand there will always be some kind of mechanical issues to deal with nothing last forever, but most radiators usually outlast the vehicle.

The radiator keeps leaking, first dealer said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, I am always putting coolant in the vehicle. You can smell the coolant as soon as you open the hood. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and the engine was turned off. The engine overheated with excessive leakage of coolant. The contact dispensed coolant into the radiator reservoir. The vehicle was able to continue for approximately ten miles before the identical failures recurred in which the radiator required additional coolant. The failures occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The authorized dealer was notified of the malfunctions and they informed that there was a technical service bulletin regarding the engine and engine cooling: cooling system: radiator assembly. The bulletin number was 0638. The vehicle was not being driven at the time of the complaint due to the potential safety hazard. The failure mileage was 50,000.

In July 2009 at 40000 miles the radiator had a hairline fracture and the radiator had to be replaced, paid out of pocket by owner. In March 2010, at 60000 miles, another radiator is being put in this vehicle, again out of pocket expense for owner. There should not be a need for a vehicle to have had 3 radiators at 60000 miles. The dealership states this is a known issue with this model and that these are poorly placed and manufactured radiators. Ford/Mercury should recall these vehicles and reimburse out of pocket expenses for anyone that has proof of radiators being replaced.

Purchased in June 2009 and have had problem after problem. Mountaineer premier awd. Transmission issue, feels like you're getting hit from behind when coming to a stop. Radiator leaks. Back lift gate randomly opens, won't latch. When it rains, water comes in through the interior light mount and through dvd player. Spark plugs not easily replaced, broke off and had to be towed to a shop for removal. Gas unable to be pumped properly I can put in . 25 at a time if I'm lucky. It takes 20 minutes to pump half a tank of gas. I love the features this vehicle has but this has been such a hassle.

New showroom 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. The engine in this vehicle malfunctioned twice without warning; no overheating, no dashboard light indicators either time. July 2004/odometer reading 92213, the mechanics at the freeway Lincoln Mercury were baffled. They advised me that all the fluids were in the vehicle. Later (one week) they found a "hole" in the radiator. I was told I had a new engine, with a new warranty. 2nd time was June 06, odometer 166199,(new engine 73986) no warning, no dashboard lights, no overheating. Per a different certified mechanic not only was the engine not new but it had severe corrosion in it and showed signs of multiple overheating conditions. They told me of an "all technical service bulletin" dated 1/21/02 for my vehicle's engine regarding the "engine head gasket"---"some engine assemblies with aluminum cylinder heads repaired in-vehicle have been found to leak coolant and/or oil from the cylinder head gasket area due to particle contamination or scratches and dents to block mating surfaces. " action: refer to the following service information for recommended gasket sealing surface preparation procedures. If the engine diagnosis points to a faulty head gasket (leaks oil, leaks coolant, oil or coolant contamination, or air in coolant), thorough cleaning procedures are necessary for a successful head gasket repair. Diagnosis and post- repair confirmation can be done successfully utilizing leak detection methods such as a black light dye process. Service procedure:to sum up, a successful leak repair depends on:accurate diagnosis of the leak using Ford-recommended test equipment and procedures . Surface preparation and gasket installation using the approved tools, cleaners, and methods. Exercising care and cleanliness during disassembly/assembly of components use of genuine Ford oem replacement parts<use of a Ford remanufacturer.

Consumer noticed fluid leaking from under vehicle. Consumer took car to dealer. Dealer told consumer that the radiator needed to be replaced. Consumer stated that at 700 miles radiator should not need replacing.

Radiator leaks around the plastic tank which is connected to core of radiator. Problem happens only when weather is cold. Once vehicle had heated it did not leak. Contacted dealership & informed vehicle out of warranty & no recalls or bulletins on vehicle.
