1 Wiper problem of the 2001 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 07/08/2017

I opened the rear glass and while the glass was being raised by the pistons, I heard a loud bang. The glass suddenly shattered all over me and the back of the Mountaineer. I got glass in my face and arms and feet. I had lacerations to my arms from the glass and glass splinters in my feet where the glass got into my shoes. The glass did not hit anything as was only part of the way up when it shattered. I did not open the full rear gate, just the glass panel which is unlocked with a push button to the right of the rear gate handle latch. The day was hot and I had the ac running so there was temperature gradient inside of the vehicle to the outside. This is a dangerous defect as I was injured and other could be more severely injured by this defect.

3 Wiper problem of the 2005 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 12/17/2015

"takata recall" purchased the vehicle with 158,000 miles on it. Owned for one month. Barely driving even 12 miles a day as I have been laid off from job. Vehicle was parked in driveway, sitting. Opened the rear lift gate to retrieve groceries and closed gate. Rear window blew out into a million pieces with the center piece that is plastic? twisted as well. Did notice crack in panel near the emblem shortly after the purchase of vehicle and I thought that the prior owner may have backed into something , although there was no dent or paint marked up near the crack, so I was stumped as to how it got that way). After inquiring on the internet, I found several complaints about the lift gate panel and glass falling out. I had sealed the crack with clear silicone just a week after purchasing in order to keep the water out of the lift gate. Dealer ran my VIN and said there was no recall for this vehicle. I purchased a vehicle report this morning for my VIN and it indicates that there was a recall on glass that states the #dot430 is defective glass. I am not sure if this is the stamping on my glass as the dealership/bodyshop removed that panel and threw out the panel in the garbage. They sealed the rear lift gate with plastic while the insurance adjuster evaluates. I know this problem has been ongoing by all the reports that I have read online and should be covered by Ford or whatever manufacturer who supplied parts. This is a very dangerous issue and needs to be addressed and should not be the responsibility of the owner to fix. My insurance company told me last week that I may be responsible since I was not involved in an car accident. This should not be my responsibility to pay for!.

4 Wiper problem of the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

Back hatch glass exploded while the vehicle was stationary (parked in a parking log), and the driver was closing the hatch. Back glass portion of hatch was being manually closed at a slow-moderate rate, and glass suddenly shattered without warning. There was no impact to the glass, nor any discernible reason why the glass should have suddenly shattered. Approximately 90% of the glass ended up in the car or on the parking lot surface, with only about 10% of the glass remaining attached to the hatch frame and struts.

5 Wiper problem of the 1998 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 05/20/2015

At this point all 4 door locks/latches are messed up. Both driver &passenger back doors won't open from outside or inside. Driver &passenger front doors won't open from outside unless open from inside first. Key won't unlock doors. Back glass on hatch door won't open. Back wiper broken. Back hatch wouldn't open untill I paid to have it fixed. I contacted the manufacturer they said my truck not on recall list & wanted me to pay to fix it. My truck has same issues as the ones being recalled. How do they determine which ones to recall?.

7 Wiper problem of the 2007 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 07/28/2014

First off when I bought the vehicle the rear wiper does not work. Secondly when you put the vehicle in reverse it jolts before going into reverse. Finally it only let's you put so mich of fuel into the gas tank at a time before stopping the fuel flow into the gas tank.

8 Wiper problem of the 1998 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

All of a sudden with no warning my interior dome lights, power windows and front and back windshield wipers didnt function. I was driving it started to rain and I could see very well without functioning wipers. I had to pull over to the side of the road. I figure that a fuse might have blown but when I checked all fuses they seem to be ok. I was reviewing a recall for a 1999 Mountaineer for a gem problem. Although my vehicle is a 1998, could this problem be similar to the 1999 recall. It appears to have all the similar sypmtoms . Is it possible that my 1998 Mountaineer has a recall for the same problem. Thank you.

My husband went out to wipe off the cars of snow this morning in our driveway, and went to open the back window of our 2002 Mercury Mountaineer to get something out. When he went to close the window, even before he actually closed it, the window exploded and shattered everywhere. No force or anything was used in closing the window, just a sudden explosion of glass.

11 Wiper problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

My mother was at her parents' house and opened the rear glass portion of the lift gate. Upon doing so, one of the lift gate cylinders detached from the glass. She went inside to get her father to come outside and see if he could fix the issue. When he attempted to lift the glass, it shattered instantly leaving cuts all over his body. I called Ford about this issue and was told that there was nothing that they could do about this because the recall that addresses this issue had already been performed on the vehicle (NHTSA campaign id number: 01i010000).
