My 2003 Mercury Sable has a faulty brake light switch which causes the brake lights to remain on. I found the recall notice online and contacted Ford who do not acknowledge the recall for my VIN number.
Car will not come out of park, nor will brake lights operate when pedal depressed. Exact symptoms as described in previous model year recalls. Only wayto get car out of park is to place in neutral after turning key in ignition to first avaialble position, then applying brake pedal to release shift lock. This is a recurring problem w/ a failed brake light switch assembly. It's too dangerous of a problem to not have a recall. Many other model vehicles have been recalled for the same exact problem. Why not this model?.

Brake light switch at pedal faulty with same symptoms as recall NHTSA I. D. # 04v10600. . . Brake lights won't activate when pedal depressed while driving or parked and when parked transmission range selector is stuck in park position. These symptoms could cause an accident from the rear and or leave family members stranded. Curiously this recall doesn't list the recalled switches part number and certainly Ford motors won't admit that a few were installed on 2004 models.
There was a recall on my car back in Mar 02 2004 (Ford recall number 04s12) for an exterior lighting:brake lights:switch, which was (according to Ford) done Jan 10 2005. I had failed again on 11/15/2012 leaving me without brake lights and not being able to get it out of park. Had to put it in neutral first before I started my car so I could drive it to get fixed.

The contact owns a 2003 Mercury Sable. While the contact started the ignition, there were several attempts before the gear would shift out of the "park" position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the neutral gear sensor was replaced. The failure recurred after one month. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for the identical failure. The technician informed that the failure was related to the wiring. There was a recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 04v106000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch); however, the VIN was excluded from the recall defect. The vehicle was not repaired for the malfunction. The failure mileage was unknown.

I have a 2003 Mercury Sable with a failed brake light switch that Ford acknowledged and released a recall for (NHTSA campaign id number: 04v106000, NHTSA action number: rq03008) however, when I called Ford customer care they declined to assist in the matter until I urged them that they needed to repair the issue at no cost to me. After a long discussion they said they would pay for the repairs, but only after I paid a diagnostic service fee to rule out any other cause for the failure. As it is now the car is very difficult to get out of park, and when it is the brake lights are intermittent at best. I do not want this to result in an accident or injury as a result of fords neglect to resolve this issue. Is there anything the NHTSA odi can do to help me resolve this issue as quickly as possible? thank you, scott ritter.
I just bought this car and was having a problem with my brake lights not working and then every time I tried to take the car out of park it got stuck. My battery also went dead. All within days of my purchase. I researched online and found that there was a recall that had all of these problems and they were connected. When I went to the Ford dealership they told me there was no recall for this car which I find hard to believe because it is the exact same problem as listed in the recall. My car is a 2003 Mercury Sable. See recall info below: ------------------------ make: Mercury model: Sable model year: 2003 manufacturer: Ford motor company mfr's report date: Mar 01, 2004 NHTSA campaign id number: 04v106000 rq03008 NHTSA action number: rq03008 component: exterior lighting:brake lights:switch Ford recall 04s12 summary: certain passenger vehicles are being recalled to correct a problem with a malfunctioning stop lamp switch and/or associated wiring. This malfunctioning could render the stop lamps inoperable or cause them to stay on all the time. This could cause confusion to a following driver, which could lead to a crash. Consequence: in addition, if the switch and/or associated wiring fail in the open position, the brake lights will not actuate and the driver will not be able to shift the vehicle out of park. If they fail in the closed position, the brake lights will remain on, which will not allow the speed control to be activated. This could also cause the battery to discharge.
Recall electrical inside lighting. Disc player shortening out, brake light switch coming on. This has been repaired twice what can be done to correct the problem?.

I have a 2004 Sable and the brake lights will not go off. I've tried changing the fuse to no avail. After researching, it seems that the 2000-2003 Ford taurus and Mercury Sables had recalls for faulty brake light switches. It appears that this is still a problem in the 2004 model!.
The contact owns a 2003 Mercury Sable. The contact stated that he is experiencing brake light failure. He also stated that he could start the vehicle, but it failed to shift out of the park position. The current mileage is 51,000 and failure mileage was 48,000. Updated 07/16/08. Updated 07/16/08.

2001 Mercury Sable GS. The stop lights are stuck on, indicating a problem, similar to the problem addressed by a current Ford recall. However, upon calling Ford motor customer service 800 number, they tell me, my car isn't covered by the recall, even though it has the exact same problem as those Sables that are being recalled.
Recall notice regarding stop lamp switch problems. While driving the stop lamp became struck in the on position. The vehcile was taken to a local mechanic who replaced the stop lamp switch.
While driving 70 mph in cruise control the vehicle stalled without warning. The dealership was notified and installed a new brake light switch.
I had to get my brake light switch replaced because my car wouldn't shift out of park. When speaking to the dealership's service technician, it sounded like this was a common problem with my type of car. A friend of mine with a similar car (Ford taurus) had the same problem. Is this a possible defect that should be recalled?.
While driving, another motorist informed the consumer the brake lights on the vehicle stayed on all the time and other motorists were unable to tell when the consumer was actually braking. The dealer replaced the brake light switch. Examination of the switch showed a small plastic nub which held contacts open wore down and allowed contacts to stay closed all the time.
Vehicle's brake light switch malfunctioned.
Nhtsa recall repair of the adjustable pedals failed. Nhtsa recall # 01-v-078-000.
The back brake lights are not working again. (4th time) also, the car will not move out of park after you start the car. I know these two problems are related to the brake switch. This item has been (replaced) two other times. I am putting the powers that be on notice that if I am in a crash because of this safety issue, I am responsible for it. Also, there is some sort of electrical problem that will keep the car for starting.
The rear brake lights did not illuminate when the brake was applied. The brake light switch was replaced 4 times which one out of the 4 repairs was recall related. Also the abs light was illuminated. Once the switch failed the shifter would not come out of park position. On another occasion, the sun roof was inoperative.
I purchased new, and still own this vehicle. At 27083 miles, the rear brake lights stuck in the on position. Bill dube Ford of dover, nh replaced the brake light switch free of all costs to me under recall notice # 01s08. At 45395 miles the rear brake lights again stuck in the on position. However, brighton Ford-Mercury of brighton, mi refused to replace the defective switch under the recall notice claiming that, since the switch had already been replaced under the recall notice, fords only responsibility was to warrant the replaced switch for a period not to exceed 12000 miles or 12 months. As a consequence, I paid $63. 33 to have the switch replaced. Based on the fact that all three switches, ie. , the original equipment switch, and both replacement switches had identical part numbers (yf1z*13480) how can I be assured that: 1) Ford motor company and/or the supplier of the switch ever made any attampt to redesign the switch. With the same part number, there could be thousands of defective switches still in the marketplace. 2) the replacement switch, currently installed, will not fail in approx. 25000 miles just as the first two switches failed. 3) the lives of my family members, including myself, will not be in jeopardy every 27000 miles because of a rear-end collision resulting from someone's mistaken identity of the constantly on brake lights for running lights, 4) why Ford motor company, or any automobile manufacturer, is not held responsible for the costs of replacing parts involved in a recall until a permanent fix is found? nlm.
Brake light switch replacement for 2000 Mercury Sable. The vehicle needed a brake light switch on two separate occasions.
The replacement switch for brake/stop lamp recall 01 v 078 000 failed twice.
Vehicle was stuck in park, and brake lights would not go off. Took vehicle to the dealer, and they replaced the wiring stop lamp 01s08. 10,000 miles later, problem recurred.
Problems with 2000 Mercury Sable brake light switch. On two occasions the brake light switch melted and discolored which caused the brake light to stay on.
The brake lights malfunctioned by constantly remaining illuminated whether or not foot is applied to pedal. This occurred as a result of foot pedal grease coming into contact with the stop lamp socket. Related recall 01v078000, but consumer's vehicle not included due to VIN.
