Coolant leaks for bottom I have a 2001 Mercury Sable LS it has the 3. 0 liter motor not 24 valve. I have talked with three other people and they have all Ford taurus's and they had to replace coolant bottle because they all cracked on the bottom of the bottle. Its odd that four people that I know we all have to change the bottle within a year of each other. Could there be faulty bottles made and will the antifreeze damage other parts on my car. I only have 78,000 miles on the car.

2001 Sable coolant light came on frequently. The coil springs make noise. The brake harness light was defective. All four tires needed air every week (dot numbers w2x8lh01802 and w2x8lh04102).
2003 Mercury Sable blower motor inoperable. Occurred in January as an intermittent issue. Motor failed completely in Mar 2005. Technical service bulletin issued effective 7/16/2004 states: 2001-2004 taurus/sable: water in blower case-blower motor/resistor failure-vehicles built between 5/1/2003 to 12/15/2003. Some vehicles may exhibit water in blower case, resulting in leakage to interior passenger floor. Inspect and seal cowl area and install rain-hat. Inspect and replace blower motor. The blower motor was replaced as was the resistor. The cowl leak is not on recall even though it causes significant water damge to electrical components and interior passenger space. This is a manufacturer defect and should not be the burden of the consumer.

Engine cooling system is faulty. I have had 3 freeze plugs replaced in engine over past year and a half at cost of $500. 00 I am told if the others rust behind the engine it will be another $500. 00 just had the system flushed last year, now it is rusty again. Cooling system is corrosive! does that make sense?.
This is the 2nd year in a row that I have had to have the engine cooling system flushed because it is getting something in it from the engine and then blocking the heater core. My mechanic (a neghbor) indicated that he has started seeing this problem in a lot of Sables & tarauses at 4 years or more.

Consumer took vehicle to dealer for recall repairs on cooling system in February, 2000. 17,000 miles later while driving, consumer turned on the defroster and a green film covered the inside of front windshield, making it impossible to see. Consumer had to roll windows down to see. Dealer replaced heater core.

While driving at 60 mph main head gasket failed, causing total loss of power.
After 18 months of proper operation, the automatic heater/ac temperature control started to malfunction on my vehicle. When started from a cold start, the interior temperature is maintained at a comfortable 77 to 78 degrees. As time passes, it is necessary to keep increasing the temperature until after an hour has passed, the setting is at 85 degrees and it is still too cold. The next setting is 90 degrees which is full heat to car. It doesn't take long for the heat to run you out. Then it has to be set back to 85 degrees. This is not only annoying and uncomfortable, it is unsafe, because while driving, I have to continually make the adjustments. The problem is a permanent one; it does not come and go. Had it back to dealer 4 times, most of the time they ran the can in the heated and air conditioned shop and could not duplicate the problem. At my last time to the dealer, the service manager told me that they had spent all the time and money they were going to on my vehicle unless they could come up with an error code. They showed me how to read the error code but there is no error code. It seems as though the temperature sensor in the cabin module is heating up with operation, or changing for some other reason. The system did not operate like this for the first 18 months life of the car and should not now. Ford apparently cannot solve a problem without an error code. Again, it is a safety problem to me as well a comfort problem. The actual date that it started is approximate. The very poor temperature control accounts for a good portion of the low mileage on the car. My little Mercury tracer is able to keep us very comfortable and warm and cost a whole lot less.

I have had a oil leak several times replaced oil pan and gasket 4 time,s still have problem, headlights work intermittently, and are now completely out.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Car overheated, taken to mechanic who diagnosed blown headgasket - retooled headgasket. Also replaced water pump, radiator, plugs, plug wires, coil, thermostat, since headgasket problem - car has needed to be repaired constantly. Still has cylinder 1 misfire. Car is 5 yrs old. Seems like excessive prblems for a car that new.
This is the second time I have had to repair this problem, the first occurred at 62,000 miles, and I feel Ford is dragging their feet in a similar fashion to the 3. 8 litre motor incident. No safety defect listed.
Coolant turned to acid and cause corrusion to heater plug and water pump. Dealership is aware of problem.

Coolant inside vehicle has deteriorated, causing engine to rust. Please add additional information.
I was traveling home from my first long distance trip from napa, CA. To ventura, CA. When without any warning the cars temperature gauge went straight to hot, the engine light came on and the car lost total power, result? two blown head gaskets, numerous cooling parts replaced. When Ford was contacted about reimbursement for a known defect (head gaskets) they said the goodwill policy doesn't count in my case because I took it to a repairshop other than Ford. So here I am out $2,724. 62 repair costs $400. Towing cost and another $250. In rental cost. I believe that I should be reimbursed my costs even though I didn't have the car repaired by Ford, because I didn't know about the extended "goodwill" warranty until after the fact. So here is another sob story about defective head gaskets not being fixed. Ford knows about this serious problem and refuses to fix it.
Vehicle started overheating. Cooling system broke down to soon and caused erosion. Ford developed a repair kit for cooling system. Contacted dealer, and dealer paid half of the cost.
Coolant turned to a rusty sluggy mixture. Freeze out plugs had to be replaced and system flushed. New coolant was added and it is already turning brown again. Ford did do the work for free, but told me I was on my own if it occured again. Have learned through various people that the same thing is happening to their Sable and taurus cars. Transmission has also had to repaired at a cost to me of $1750. 00. When you come to a stop the car will then not go forward. You have to press in on the gas and make it lunge forward, sometimes causing the tires to "burn rubber" ! we brought this problem to the service department three years ago and each time we took the car in the service staff informed us that there was no problem. On last visit is when the coolant problem was discoverd. Was told that our car had "cancer" and should get rid of it, but not at their dealership. The problem with the transmission was a forward engagement piston. The company that made the repair had three other Sables in the shop with the exact same problem - each with no support from Ford. Each were paying $1750. 00. Help!!!.
While driving at 55mph cooling system failed causing engine to stop and lock up.
Engine is rusting from inside out. All metal cooling lines replaced and now all freeze plugs need to be replaced, and antifreeze is brown.
I am having a hard time getting Ford pay for the problem with a warranty. No summary issued for above vehicle.
This problem matches the description of service program number 98b23, which expired on August 31, 1999. The original notification about this program was sent to my old adress, from wich I moved out on may 1998. I feel that this failure is a recognized manufacturer's defect and it should be repaired by the company at no cost to the owner.
Problem first noticed as engine overheated and a coolant leak occurred. . . Debris in cooling system creates a blockage and heater works intermittently. Still overheats after radiator flushes to clean system. I have been advised by the mechanic to either sell the car or replace the entire cooling system.
After vehicle was repaired under recall# 98b2151, vehicle overheated . The thermostat and engine had to be replaced. The dealer and manufacturer have been notified.
Consumer had recall repair work on the heating and cooling system in April, now the freeze out plugs have gone bad and there is a blown gasket.
The heater core went out 2 weeks after purchase in November. It went out again in may. And again in October. And it is leaking again today 12-15-98.
When putting in coolant it leaks out by the time consumer reaches destination.
Engine continually overheats. Consumer has had numerous repairs done to vehicle and the problem reoccurs. Every time consumer takes vehicle to dealer , dealer would always say something else needed to be done. The cost kept adding up, but condition still remained the same.
The rear windshield suddenly shaterred while driving on a freeway! there was nothing that hit the car. The manufacturer refused to take care of this problem as the car was out of the warranty (mileage). The second problem regarding the radiator clamp occurred within 12 hours of my purchasing the car. Suddenly fumes came out of the engine with the 'low coolent' sign. Had to toe the car to the dealership who fixed it by putting a new clamp on the hose. The third complaint was noticed within 2-3 months of buying the car. The dealership fixed the problem by changing the malfunctioning switch. Never received any apologies from the company for the manufacturing defects. I don't know what is more to come. . . .
The freeze plugs continuously rust out causing the coolant to be brown making the engine overheat. The vehicle was worked on (2) months ago with the problem reoccuring. Please describe details.
Cooling system overflow reservoir has rubbed against the fender, causing stress cracks on the buttom of the reservoir, resulting in coolant leakage . Manufactuer has redesigned part.
