Gasoline Engine Problems of Mercury Sable

Consumer stated that on 11/3/02 was driving approaching a stopped traffic and depressed brake pedal. Vehicle surged forward and consumer pulled off road to avoid a collision. Vehicle was checked by dealer who at first advised could not determine cause. Dealer then stated discovered problem with transmission sensor that was signaling car to five more gas. Delaer repaired and returned vehicle to consumer. Consumer drove vehicle frequently within next week to make sure problem would not reoccur. On 11/10/02 while driving engine surge occured again. Dealer stated no problem with vehicle. Ts.

Automobile 1998 Mercury Sable engine rpm surges fixed several times at dealer replacing sensors and other parts still surges periodically in 2002 the engine surged and the brakes did not hold collision with another vehicle the car was in the shop 5 times before the crash for the same problem since 2002 another 4 times and the problem is still not fixed also after shutting off car, the fan still runs also fixed 4 times now only reason we did not buy a new, and other brand vehicle is lack of funds to purchase a new car this car is dangerous not sure of accident date exactly will check police report .

Electrical system shut down, loses all power. The auto has accelerated on numerous occasions while stopped in traffic. Teh air conditioner shut down while traveling, twice the vehicle experienced complete electrical shut down, on one occasion requiring the vehicle to be towed. Consumer is requesting a vehicle replacement and for the failures to be recalled.

The vehicles engine compartment caught fire, the consumer stated he recently had the transmission and that may have been the cause of the problem (ohio traffic crash report). Nlm.

The engine has a heavy spark knock and has been repaired 5 times. The driver seat does not move forward when someone is sitting in it. When car is first put in reverse, it will roll forward. When slowing from 60+ mph, the car shakes really bad and also rides very rough when speeding up from 65+mph. These cars seem to have a lot of engine, transaxle problems. Maybe a recall is in order. My car has been int he shop 60 out of 290 days. I have dealt with rental cars and repairs in excess of $20k. Please help!.

While driving 45 mph vehicle shuddered, then stopped, engine still running. Also, transmission had failed.

Vehicle was backfiring due to an unknown component which consumer felt could possibly result in a fire. Consumer has taken vehicle to a Ford dealership three times, and was not able to determine cause of backfiring. This occurred approximately 75% of time during start up. While driving at normal highway speed all of a sudden vehicle cut off. Driver was able to pull to the side of the road safely, turned off the ignition, and got out of vehicle. This was when driver and family noticed vehicle was on fire. Vehcle was towed to the dealership. Cv boot exploded and threw grease onto the catalytic converter, which started the fire. While driving transmission completely malfunctioned, cause unknown. Also tachometer needle registering too high, smoke coming from under the hood, and oil smell.

Transmission fails pulling out in traffic, when I bought the car they denied it until I made manager drive w/me they rebuilt it free, after fighting with them, I did not have the car a week. They rebuilt it, 1 yr later happened again, said cannot find anything, took it to another dealer, said they always have problems with transmission in these due to the torque converter too strong for the transmission. They know they made a mistake. Oil is black, they know something is wrong but they are not going to recall because they would have to recall the car.

Manufacturer refuses to investigate air bag defect, along with the other problems. However, I am concern about driving around in a vehicle I thought was safe. Me and my children could have lost our lives to that 18 wheel truck. The truck struck both the fron and rear of my 1998 Sable and the bags did not deploy. Ford consumer affairs department stated to me that the vehicle was never on a call back and the manufacturer warranty expired. I had an extended warranty on my car at the time of the accident. I had this car tested when I first purchased it. It had some electrical and engine problems of which I held on to the invoices . I feel that the manufacturer is responsible for this defect. It undetermine if the car was defective at the time of purchase. But I can say it had electrical problems. Which may have affected the air bag sensors.

Motor threw a rod; out of warranty since purchased used; motor is "so new" have had to wait 3 weeks for parts; Ford refuses to assist.

Entire engine seized due to manufactuerer flaw, they refused to pay for repairs and so did the warranty company.

We have had technicians, mechanics, and Ford engineers working on this car. As of this date, they can not fix the problem, car will only go 20mph and will not fire on plugs 1 and 5. All parts that could be wrong have been replaced. A complete check of the car shows no other problem. Car also upon starting jerks.

When stopped at a traffic light with the vehicle in "drive", the engine suddenly roared and the vehicle started to move forward. Driver shifted to park and the vehicle returned to idle speed.

While driving vehicle engine blew. Cause unknown. Owner notes problem may be internal.

When driving the Sable in hot weather conditions and decelerating the vehicle seems die when down to 10-15 mph. The dealer will not correct the problem free of charge. There is a service bulletin on this problem.

Vehicle vibrates when engine is on/vehicle is not moving.

Vehicle caught on fire while parked in the garage. Consumer states abs light was coming the day vehicle was purchasd and dealer admtted that it was on but did not say anything, possible cause was fan from abs light.

The vehicle jumps at low speeds, possibly engine related.

I was driving on the trunpike and then all of a sudden there was no more power I had to stay there till this man call the police the car should not do it. There was no warning at all. I then had it tow three time from the place where it broke down ,then to the macenics shop then from there to autoland the total of the no power the car started to burk and that was the end of it it didn;t start anymore took to autoland with harry lupo they said it was this and to find out it was that to but they had my car for over a month . I went and took it out they said it was running fine I stared to drive it all it did was back frie and ran very hot.

When riding over puddles the steering wheel locks up, and the battery warning light comes on. The vehicle stutters for a few minutes and then goes back to normal. Dealer doesn't have a solution for problem.

Consuemer states that while driving the freeze plug in the engine blew, causing the vehicle to cut off without any warning. Dealer replaced part 3 times problem still occuring. Nlm.

Consumer was traveling on a side street and noticed that vehicle was hesitating. Vehicle cut off without prior warning. Dealership was aware of the of problem.
