The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Sable. While attempting to pull out of a parking space at an unknown speed, the contact heard a popping sound and then a rubbing noise. She parked the vehicle. A mechanic arrived at the scene to diagnose the vehicle and stated that the sway bar failed, which ruined the struts and cv boot. The mechanic replaced the sway bar, struts, and cv boot. The vehicle also had to be realigned. The current and failure mileages were 32,000. Updated 07/15/08. The mechanic stated the sway bar was made of plasitc instead of metal. Updated 07/15/08.

: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the left front wheel stabilizer arm wobbled from side to side. The vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop and it was determined, the front undercarriage and engine mounts were rusted. The vehicle was exposed to extreme winter weather and corrosive road salts. The repair shop concluded that due to the extensive corrosion, the problem could not be corrected. The manufacturer was not alerted.
