While driving, cars around me were beeping when I switched lanes after signaling and stepped on the brakes. I was nearly rear ended! come to find out all of my lighting systems were inoperable. I had: brake lights turn signals hazard lights headlights tail lights *windows were inoperable. The list goes on. This is terrifying to have happen while driving, and even worse, I didn't realize what was happening until I had nearly been hit by two different cars. This would have been even worse had it failed at night. I had my car towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The issue is that the footwell module (aka frm) had failed. This happened at only 41,000 miles. Apparently this is extremely common and a long-known defect on Mini Coopers. In my opinion there needs to be an immediate recall on all affected frms. I learned that Mini issued a "silent recall" of extended warranties, from 4 years to 8 years, and now to 10 years/156,000 miles. I am outside of warranty 6 months by time, but within warranty by 115,000 miles. I contacted Mini USA to request that they cover the part repair, as this is a known defective part in my car's model and year and a critical safety issue. They have refused, despite me getting in touch three times. I also notified customer relations at Mini USA that I never received notification of the warranty extension on this part, or on any other part. Additionally, I have not received any notification of recalls that apply to my vehicle, though through my recent research I have found that some have been issued. A quick google search as well as discussions with Mini techs will reveal widespread frm failure. Many other complainants on this page are regarding the same issue. Has any investigation taken place? if not, I hope there will be one.

Handbrake harness not routed as designed. From the picture you can see the harness not inside the clip. This makes the handbrake harness short from point to point. Which will lead to my rear passenger side brake always on. And also, it will cause a serious safety issue if I want to use my handbrake to stop my vehicle. The force applied on passenger side is way more than drive side ( it was installed correctly ) . And it may lead my passenger side handbrake wiring harness broken ( because of the incorrect routing ) I found it out when my brake light in on. My front brake still working for another 1100 miles while my rear brake sensor tell me I need to change my brake . We change the rear passenger brake and found out its difficult to clip the handbrake wiring harness to right hole. Then we track the wiring done. It's shocks me . The routing is 100% incorrect. You can see the correct handbrake hole is empty.

This is in regards to the rear brake lights on the 2016+ Mini Cooper clubman models. The design of the rear brake lights can not be seen while following the vehicle at a cars length of distance. The largest tail lights on the rear hatch of the vehicle are not the actual brake lights where you assume you would see brake lights illuminate. Instead they are on the bumper below the rear doors. When in traffic or following less than 2 car lengths behind the cehicle the only way you can tell the vehicle is even stopping is the small 3rd brake light. Prior to anyone being seriously injured in a rear collision I would like to make the suggestion that BMW and Mini illuminate the large tail lights if the rear barn doors are closed and illuminate the lower lights only when the barn doors are open during driving. I've made this formal claim on record in case anything happens to my family in this vehicle in the future. I've included the following photos for reference: 1. Following at 2 car lengths with brake lights illuminated 2. Following at 1 car lengths with brakes illuminated 3. Side view of distance when brake lights were completely obscured due to location.

Dsc and brake light turned appeared on tachometer display in yellow and does not go out. Dsc button if pressed makes no changes to dcs/abs lights on displays. Immediately the following symptoms/issues appeared: steering started to fault like unaligned, brake pedal slightly eratic, blinker turn signal does now not turn off after activating and making a turn. Vehicle has jcw sport brake kit, installed at 30,000 miles, 3 months ago. Vehicle was recently aligned about 2 months ago. Vehicle was scanned with to diagnose falut and fault code was that the switch unit steering column/dsc is faulty. No missing sensors, all are connected in place. No pinched or broken cables. Replaced part #61319253769 msp $550. 00 and mechanic fee of $500. 00 (removal of part, installation, vehicle ecu recoding, and recheck ecu diagnosis. No more error codes and steering, dcs and abs back to normal. Unknown root cause.
