1 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 07/07/2025

Failure of the footwell module failed due to corrosion by water intrusion as diagnosed by Mini dealership. Windows, turn signals and lights were inoperable as a result of failure. This matched the situation outlined in your recall notice part 573 safety recall report 23v-337. Car matched the model/years affected/listed in recall. However, Mini dealer informed me my VIN was not listed in their recall. Subsequent research indicated that NHTSA/Mini limited the recall to cars purchased cars sold or registered in specific states (not part of the safety recall report). Ref nef-107dm dated 5/19/2023. I drove car in those states but did not buy or register the vehicle in them. I encourage you to have Mini extend it's recall/warranty to all vehicles which exhibit the safety failure.

2 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 05/02/2025

The contact owns a 2007 Mini Cooper S. The contact stated that water was entering the vehicle through the sunroof. The contact stated that the water was collecting inside the headliner and would overflow and leak down the driver’s and passenger’s side sun visors and into the electronics of the footwell. Additionally, the front driver’s and passenger’s seats, floorboards, and dashboard would become soaked from the moisture. Due to the failure, the vehicle would fail to start or operate as needed. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 23v337000 (electrical system); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. An independent mechanic was notified about the failure and the contact was advised to park the vehicle outside as the failure could cause the vehicle to catch on fire. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

6 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

Car stalls while driving and will not start again. No codes thrown. Found relay k96 on junction box electronics module to have cracked through-hole solder joints resulting in bad continuity. Relay k96 supplies power to the low pressure fuel pump in the tank, thus with bad continuity, the pump gets no power. Relay k96 p/n is nec philippines p/n ep2f-b3g1st. This issue has happened to many other people with the same car that I know. I suspect heat cycles over time stressed and fatigued the solder joints, causing the joint to crack. Overall the circuit board layout needs a heat sink for the relay to alleviate the heat produced from operation. I am ipc certified and work with aircraft engine electronics regularly and have seen similar issues.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2015 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 12/30/2024

While driving in the rain (light rain) front right and rear left brakes locked up. No warning lights came on, it was a very dangerous situation. The car is currently at a repair shop getting looked at, I had to have it towed there because those wheels will not turn while in neutral even. Reading forums this is a common problem, very serious and dangerous especially with no warning.

11 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 07/28/2024

I was driving 45 mph on a local highway, the electric door locks very rapidly switched between locked and unlocked and the passenger door popped open while driving. I had to cautiously pull over to a parking lot to close the passenger door. The dashboard indicated the door was in the open position! I alerted the dealer, who indicated he would contact Mini and he did not follow up. I took the vehicle to Mini dealer to document the incident. They of course could not reproduce this on test drive and told me it was 'all clear'. Key fob history tells me there is a long history of electrical issues with the vehicle ( I bought second hand - not knowing of issues).

12 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 05/17/2024

While driving in the rain, the abs engages, slowing the front right tire dramatically causing the car to skid and lurch to the right. After some internet research, it appears that this is not an isolated incident. Mini cooper owners also discovered that when driving in dry conditions and the windshield wiper is turned on, the front right tire slows, causing the car to skid and lurch to the right. European automotive verified that this was the case on my vehicle. This started without any warning and was terrifying. I told both the local mechanic and the dealer that I would not drive the car until it was repaired. There were no warning lights. The local mechanic and the dealer were unable to find any fault codes. The dealer is 3 hours away. Before we knew what the problem was, I towed the car to the dealership and they were unable to replicate the problem. All test drives were done in dry conditions. They replaced the cruise control sensor and the steering wheel and then delivered the car to me saying it was repaired. While driving the car back from out of town, it began to rain, when the windshield wipers came on, the front tire slowed dramatically, lurching the car to the right. This is a terrifying experience, especially in the rain. It seems this is not an isolated incident and may have already caused serious accidents. The car is less than 50,000 miles old and has been used for work only. I have not driven the car out of fear of an accident and have parked it in my driveway waiting for some type of resolution with the dealer.
