Warning Light On Problems of Mini Cooper S - part 1

The passenger airbag sensor/passenger seatbelt sensor issue that has been reported and fixed in lots of other Mini cooper model years is seemingly an issue with 2010 models too and needs to be corrected via recall. The sensor being faulty is a serious safety concern, and runs close to $1200 to repair. My sensor was intermittently off and on and is now full time warning about the airbag being off. This happens no matter the status of the vehicle - as soon as the motor is running the warning lights are lit up.

The passenger airbag warning light indicating the passenger side airbag is disabled even if passenger is seated. Our mechanic tells us the on-board computer system no longer recognizes the passenger front airbag sensor. Consequentially, the airbags are being disabled on both passenger and driver side of the car.

Passenger side airbag seat mat is defective. Just stopped working. Cost to replace is over $2000. So, the warning light for defective airbag sensor remains on.

All models from 2005 onward have been recalled, yet earlier models have the same problems with non functioning airbags. The airbag warning light is on continually, and there are known problems with wiring, pressure mats and connectors in these vehicles. BMW is intentionally ignoring these issue. My own personal vehicle has this problem and as a government mandated safety device I believe that earlier models of Mini coopers should be included in the recall!.

At 40k miles on a 2009 Mini Cooper S (r56); srs airbag and seatbelt warning lights appear on lcd screen / speedometer, tachometer and roof; lcd warning reads "fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter. . . " warning lights illuminate at startup and remain permanently on while at idle and during drive, as well as all other functions and conditions until shut off. Technician scanned and retrieved fault code 93c3 ("seat occupancy detector, passenger") and estimated a cost of $1,950 to replace entire seat cushion, by a special order from the factory, which has the occupancy detector built into the lining. The component was not replaced. Upon investigation online, there exist thousands of other complaints to the NHTSA for the exact same issue for this chasis model; it is evident that this is a fualty safety component that needs to be recalled by the manufacturer. I urge the NHTSA to press even harder on this matter before any serious injuries or deaths occur as a result of either negligence on the manufacturer's behalf, or for a lack of response by the NHTSA, or worse: both. This is a major safety risk, it is a serious liability concern, and I fear for the safety of my passengers. I hope to be contacted as soon as possible to discuss further.

Airbag and seatbelt warning lights come on for passenger seat and will not turn off. It indicates that the passenger airbag will not activate in the event of an accident with an occupant in the passenger seat. Front passenger will not have airbag protection in the event of a crash.

Seat belt warning light comes on when starting car. Called local Mini dealership and was told there was an "extended warranty" for seat mat sensor.

2009 Mini cooper passenger air bag sensor light use to come on frequently while stationary and in motion, with or without passenger, and now stays on all the time. The alarm light comes on as soon as the car is started. The warning light is illuminated on the tachometer gauge and center speedometer gauge and an overhead light warned that "passenger airbag is off" the alarm takes over the display above the steering wheel and makes it so you can no longer see your speed or any other information. Started at ~ 55,000 miles on the car. My mechanic diagnosed it as passenger side airbag sensor mat problem. This is the same problem that resulted in a recall for 2005-2008 models in the NHTSA campaign number 15v205000. This is a safety hazard, as none of the airbags will deploy in case of impact. This a manufacturing defect. Multiple complaints on the same issue are available all over the internet.

2007 Mini Cooper S, hatchback. The passenger airbag (off) light, indicating the passenger airbag is disarmed, is on at all times regardless of passenger. Additionally, the dashboard warning lights for my airbag system and seatbelt are illuminated at all times. The codes identified by the Mini dealership in honolulu indicate the passenger seat occupancy sensor has a fault. Looking under the seat, it could be a faulty wiring harness or faulty connecter as they appear vulnerable to seat movement forward or backwards. The Mini dealership also stated the obnoxiously expensive part was on national back-order.

My airbag light/seat sensor warning light came on both center console and driver's console for no apparent reason. Both lights stay illuminated. Proper operation of seat sensor in passenger seat mat which activates passenger side airbag is now in question.

The mileage on the vehicle 16600miles. The warning light for the front passenger airbag goes on intermittently. The light for the front passenger airbag illuminates "off". Took to dealership and found the passenger seat mat faulty. Started flickering while driving but now the light is on constantly when start car and driving. I have read that there is a recall for this problem for vehicles manufactured up to July 2008. My Mini s shows a production date 8/01/08. I had this car built to my specification in July 2008. I have paid for the part because I believe this is for the safety for whom ever rides with me but the part is on backorder and we are waiting for it to arrive from germany. BMW/Mini have not resolved the issue if it is still happening. The cost to repair is approx. $ 2153. 00. If I wait till I get a recall and there is a fatality. . . . . ? if at a later date a recall is made for my vehicle can I get the full cost reimbursed?.

Without being involved in any incident, the airbag and seat belt warning lights stay on. There are thousands of complaints online on Minis and bmws around a faulty airbag/passenger seat sensor and it appears to be a manufacturing defect that could be risking many lives. Mini needs to diagnose/investigate and extend recalls to all vehicles that have faulty manufacturing.

Air bag warning light comes on while driving. BMW north America had issued a recall for the 2005 - 2008 models, but not affected 2009 (2008 production date) models. Persistent oil leaks from and around oil filter housing and turbo oil lines. Oil leaks directly on exhaust manifold down pipe, potentially starting a fire, hasn't yet, but there has been plenty of smoke and in one instance, a small flare-up when oil dripped on the pipe as the car was idling in the garage after a short trip.

Passenger air bag warning light stays on all the time. Dealer and independent repair shop say the seat sensor need to be replaced. It is located in the seat and the whole seat needs to be replaced. Estimated cost $1200. To 1500. Us dollars. The passenger seat is rarely used. The repair is not covered by warranty. I don't know if the air bag will deploy. Apparently all BMW's were recalled for this problem but not the Mini coopers which according to posted threads are also experiencing the same problem.

Passenger side air bag warning light spontaneously lighted without incident and continues to remain illuminated during operation of vehicle with or without passenger in seat. Mini of USA assistance denies any responsability or warranty, but states that" air bag may not function in case of accident". This vehicle has 53,00 miles on odometer. Have observed many such complaints on related internet sites.

Passenger side air bag sensor is going off when either a passenger of average weight (150lbs. ) is occupying seat or a small bump in road is hit. I would like a recall on this made for the 2008 model as this is a massive safety issue as I don't know if in an accident either driver or passenger airbag will deploy. Without a recall owners must pay $1200 for what is a known defect by Mini. Does someone have to get injuries for this to become a recall?.

After codes are cleared on car, there is no warning indicator light illuminated as long as no passengers sit in the passenger seat. Once a passenger sits in the seat, following the code clearing, then the airbag warning light and the seat belt warning lights are illuminated permanently.

I have been getting the air bag warning light (in red) coming on while driving the car ¿ started in February, 2015. I've told that Mini/BMW is aware of this issue, but is not making any movement on establishing a safety recall on affected cars. When passenger exited vehicle, light airbag off notification came on. This happens every time someone exits the passenger seat. Also airbag warning light & seatbelt not buckled light come on.

While driving on the freeway to sacramento, CA from alameda, CA, for no apparent reason, my red dashboard air bag warning light and the roof-mounted yellow passenger airbag disable warning indicator light both came on. The roof-mounted yellow light then went out after about 5 minutes, but the red dashboard air bag warning light has remained on every time the ignition was turned on.

38,000 miles: air bag warning light for passenger side seat stays illuminated. Air bag warning light remains on after vehicle has started and does not turn off. 54,900 miles: aisin automatic transmission - automatic transmission failed thereby making the car inoperable. The car showed signs of gear change slipping between 2nd and 3rd gears. Transmission diagnosis, catastrophic failure of manual valve body and internal gears. Required a complete transmission rebuild.
