1 Engine problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 04/22/2009

The contact owns a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder. After parking her vehicle, she was unable to restart it. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the harness for the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that the existing recall applied to 2. 4 engines not 3. 0. The contact stated that recall number 00v299001 does not stipulate the engine size. The failure mileage was 87,334. Updated 5/26/09 the consumer mentioned recall# 99v333001, but was told his/her vehicle was not included in the recall due to the manufactured date. Updated 05/28/09.

2 Engine problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 01/07/2008

2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse spun 3 main bearings, has a worn clutch at 28,000 miles. I have never replaced the clutch in my '88 Mazda, which currently has 190,000 miles on it or any of the previous manual transmission vehicles I have owned. Mitsubishi reps denied the warranty due to aftermarket part (cold air intake) the clutch being worn and from what they claim as "spirited driving. " I did not pay $30,000 for a car to take out and drive it like a maniac. This is a car that I take very good care of and change oil every 3,000 miles religiously, and have it serviced regularly. I had a dispute hearing on this matter and that was a joke, you better have someone to go with you that has in-depth knowledge of engines and cold air intakes. I know that the cold air intake does not change the parameters of the engine set by the manufacturer, since I had contacted the company that developed the intake. I will never buy another Mitsubishi in my life. They do not stand behind their warranties or their products. I will never recommend a Mitsubishi vehicle to anybody. I will also not recommend the dealership to anyone either. They was of no help to me what so ever.

3 Engine problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 09/20/2005

The contact stated while driving at night the headlights malfunctioned. The vehicle was taken to a certified dealership. Upon inspection the dealer determined that the wiring harness to the head lights melted. Also, the oil light was coming on intermittently. The oil valve was replaced. These repairs were made at the contact's expense. . . . Headlights did not blink but went off altogether. When the consumer reported it to the dealer, was told we see this all the time with that make and model. Consumer wanted to know why there was no recall.

On July 29th 2005 the Mitsubishi corporation sued its previous presidents and former executives for defect and recall cover ups for "64,000 complaints filed by car owners dating back to 1977. 7 Engine problem of the 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 02/06/2004

Vehicle has 90,000 miles and is 1998 manufacturing date. Engine and transmission are both completely irreparable. No evidience of low oil level or other maintenance neglect which led to the catastrophic failure. Vehicle is out of warranty and is now scrap. Although failure is out of warranty, a complete vehicle failure at 90,000 miles is not normal or acceptable.

12 Engine problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 07/25/2001

We lease the vehicle from motor world, my son and myself have had accidents with the car that we feel are a direct result of the car not steering properly, or accelarating properly. I contacted Mitsubishi motors of America as well as the dealer and my insurance company several times. The dealership had the car for 3 months supposedly fixing it and when I got it home I had it for a week and the whole car felt like it was falling apart. I took it back to them and it had a cracked motor mount and they supposedly fixed that. I have the car back for 2 wks now and it is making all kinds of noises and it has to go back to the dealers again for the 5th time. There is something radically wrong with that car and that is why we had the accidents. I contacted Mitsubishi motors of America and I told them about a recall my state farm insurance said they got from you for the steering box which could cause the car not to turn to the left which is exactly what happened to my son amd myself, had we been on a hifhway we would have been killed. Mitsubishi was supposed to send someone to look at the car while it was still at the body shop but they never did. Now the car is making all kinds of noises again and noone will help me. I'm afraid my son will be hurt in that car or I will. It's a 2001 car and it feels like it's 10 years old. Now I'm taking it to another dealership in allentown PA. To see if they can at least make it safe for me to drive. When I originally called Mitsubishi motors of America they said the dealership had to give me a diagnosis as to why we had the accident ,noone ever gave me a diagnosis any of the 3 times. They pretty much told me to go to hell this morning over the phone. I told them I'd have to get a lawyer and they told me to go ahead. I tried ti trade up for a 2002 just to feel safe but Mitsubishi motors of America wouldn't approve my credit for the newer car lease . Ihave lots more to tell if someone calls me. Thank-you.

16 Engine problem of the 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse

17 Engine problem of the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

My Eclipse has been in and out of the Mitsubishi dealer seven times in a period of three years going into the fourth year for the same problem over and over again being that I would be driving and the car would shut completly down being able not to start back up again and while going over bumps on roads the car would buck and lead to also shutting off, the dealers response was that they could not figure out what the problem was until last year before that time they would asume what the problem was and fix something and then charging me for fixing something that did not even fix the problem. Finally in 2000 they replaced the crank sensor and for awhile the car did not die for awhile until a few months ago when I took my car to a garage where my car died while driving in traffic and they then also replaced the crank sensor and suggested that I check into my head gasket because he had seen many of the Eclipses having the same problem being that the head gasket was cracked.

18 Engine problem of the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Prior to expiration of warranty, driver side airbag was determined by dealership that airbag was defective because horn would not work. In January 2001 I had the car in for a head gasket and sked for the horn to be checked again and it was determined once again that the airbag was defective. I saw in the paper that Mitsubishi was recalling calls due to faulty airbags (2/01). I refuse to pay $600 for something that is defective a 2nd time and I feel unsafe driving the car.
