10 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 09/02/2000

Well, its one of the defaults that Mitsubishi is hiding. Its a failure in the crank bearing which causes the clutch not to work properly and a very annoying taping sound when the clutch is pressed. The main dangerous problem is that you cannot shift properly while driving making it unsafe and frustrating. I took my car to the dealer and they said I need to replace the whole engine(shortblock) and it will be under my cost around $3500. The workers there addmitted to me that its a default that they dont have a recall on. I bought the car under the intention that Mitsubishi makes very reliable products. Unfortunatly I was very mistaken especially after the few incidents on the news. Please help me because I am losing a lot of money with this problem. Thank you.

16 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Failure Date: 01/07/1999

I had changed the oil in my Mitsubishi on 12/20/98 and on 1/7/99 while driving, with cruise control on, my car sounded a knock and completely stopped. I had the car towed to freehold Mitsubishi, and the service manager has told me that he visually detected that I had used an oil filter that was for the turbo model of the Eclipse. He told me that because I had used the wrong filter which has the wrong threading for my car. Mitsubishi is not covering this under warranty. I have had a mechanic look at the two types of filters for this vehicle and there does not show any difference in the threading on either of them. The vehicle is only 2 months old and I have not been given any proof from Mitsubishi that using an oil filter, made for the car with the same specifications for turbo and non-turbo, could possibly be the cause of breaking a connecting rod. What is my warranty for? there could be something wrong with the engine. I have paid in full for this car. I can not afford repairs. They have gotten th.
