Wiring Problems of Mitsubishi Galant

While driving the vehicle noticed smoke coming from under the hood. Opened the hood and notice a fire coming from the wiring harness out of the fuse box. Disconnectted the battery and towed it home.

My passenger side door started smoking and it melted the window wiring and door lock clicker and the motor in the window and melted the door a little bit. It should have blown the fuse for the window but it didn't it started smoking .

Alternator and wire harness caught on fire on my 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. Harness and alternator plug were totally burnt. Had to replace both at my cost. Also had to replace radiator while at the shop. Lost 1 day of work due to this.

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES. It has 69000 miles. As of right now the problem with my car hasn't caused an accident but I am afraid in the future it might. It started with the radio staying on even after the key is pulled, then it went to that if I used the wipers and the headlights at the same time, the wipers wouldn't shut off until I shut the headlights off. We then had to pull the fuse for the horn, because while sitting in the garage, not running, hadn't been running for several hours, the horn started blaring, and wouldn't go off until my husband disconnected the battery. I am scared for my own safety as well as others, to use the cruise. I am scared it will stay on, and I would be involved in a severe crash. Please help, no one seems to know exactly what the problem is.

The contact stated while driving noticed smoke coming from underneath the front right panel. After he pulled over and exited the vehicle a fire erupted from the front right passenger door panel. The contact said it looked like a wire shorted out which caused the speaker to catch on fire. Upon inspection by the dealer, they concluded the fire was cause by a short in the wiring.

On 7-11-05 the vehicle caught on fire. Driver and passenger drove on and off all day. The front passenger door burst into flames. The doors automatically locked, and the windows rolled up and down on their own. Doors would not open. The driver was able to kick the door open. Both passengers exited through the driver's side. After exiting the vehicle the passenger got a gallon of water to put the fire out. When she poured water onto the passenger's door the fire went out, but there was still smoke coming from the door. The fire was coming from the front passenger's side area and smoke was coming from the heating vents. Prior to the fire, the vehicle overheated with the heater off. On the day of the incident when she got a cd out of the stereo it was too hot to hold. After the incident the cd in the stereo was wet. The driver was not injured. The passenger had to be hospitalized, and was under treatment for depression and anxiety. There was a court petition to have her hospitalized in the forensic ward. Police transported her to another hospital and had security guards escort her. The passenger sustained second degree burns on her leg. She contacted Mitsubishi and the insurance agency.

While driving at 20 mph consumer saw smoke coming from under the dashboard and under the hood. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop, and mechanic informed consumer that all of the electrical wires melted. On another occasion while driving at about 15 mph vehicle completely shut down. Vehicle was taken to the mechanic, who discovered that the flywheel and associated pulleys had to be replaced. Also, radiator hose split.

When ever I crank the car up in the morning or afternoon after the car sits for a while the exhaust smells like bad eggs. The radio/cd was replace three times already and the cd player still sounds staticty when playind disc and the speakers pop when the radio is completely off. Also when ever some gets in and out of the car they get shocked by it to the point where u can actually see the spark from the shock. And when the car is just siting running u can feel the car shake like it is about to cut off.

Vehicle continually experiences electrical failures which cause, burning smells, burnt ligth switches, cables and plugs and vehicle to shut down while driving. Mjs.

While driving the vehicle experienced a "burning smell. " vehicle had electrical failures, such as no courstey lights/radio, etc. , which may have caused a fire at 300 miles. Cause unknown. Please provide details.

Car is on but lights, radio, wipers and all electrical parts don't work. You have to jiggle the switch to make the radio, wipers and electricl parts work. Notified the dealer about this problem.
