Following sustained highway operation and varied elevations in tropical conditions, the vehicle’s auto start-stop system may activate during traffic congestion. In certain instances, the battery warning light illuminates upon engine automatic restart. If the auto start stop is activated once more on the engine restart the battery warning light will turn off. I went to the dealership and they wanted me to leave the vehicle for diagnostics or kept using it which will change the mild hybrid battery and avoid recurrence. But the issue keeps happening.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the vehicle experienced an apparent engine failure involving the engine cooling system and possible head gasket and/or engine damage. Prior to failure, the vehicle had a strong sweet coolant smell and was later diagnosed by the servicing dealership as having a coolant leak and possible engine-related damage requiring engine replacement. The vehicle is currently located and available for inspection at don herring Mitsubishi. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? while driving after leaving the dealership, the vehicle began jerking, hesitating during acceleration, and losing power unexpectedly. A flashing check engine light briefly appeared and disappeared. The sudden loss of normal engine performance created a serious safety hazard because the vehicle could have stalled in traffic, increasing the risk of an accident or collision. I also have eight children, including [xxx] twins, and the loss of transportation has prevented me from reliably getting my children to school, medical appointments, and obtaining necessities. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. The electrical system in my 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander has repeatedly malfunctioned since September 2023. The primary failure involves the dashboard completely shutting down while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in the loss of critical driving information such as speed and system warnings. The issue is intermittent but ongoing and may be available for inspection upon request. This failure creates a serious safety risk because I am unable to see essential driving information while operating the vehicle, placing both myself and my family at risk. The vehicle has been taken to authorized Mitsubishi dealerships multiple times for these issues. Repairs have been performed during these visits; however, none have permanently resolved the problem. The issue temporarily stops after repairs but eventually returns and continues to recur. The problem has been reproduced multiple times. The vehicle has been inspected by authorized Mitsubishi service departments on multiple occasions, but the underlying issue has not been properly diagnosed or permanently repaired. Prior to failure, there have been repeated battery-related issues and sensor malfunctions. The vehicle has required at least three battery replacements since purchase. These symptoms often occur before the dashboard shuts down. In addition to the electrical issue, the vehicle has also experienced fuel pump concerns, which have persisted despite repair attempts. This ongoing and recurring defect makes the vehicle unsafe to operate and remains unresolved.
The ev portion of the phev is often not providing power to the motors, even though, there are still plenty of battery power available. The vehicle sometimes gave "power reduced" warning that usually went away after 30 minutes, and the vehicle cannot go into ev mode. When in ev mode and just cruising on the highway, it barely has power to keep up with traffic and sometimes it is losing speed just on a slight incline on the road causing me to move over or take it out of ev mode just to get power from the gas engine. In one occasion, I driving in ev mode and merging onto the highway. I stepped on the gas and the car was barely, if at all, accelerating. Fortunately, there wasn't vehicle coming from the highway.
Car jerks like it’s losing power when pulling off, not sure if it’s transmission issue or engine issue.

The vehicle has exhibited recurring ignition-system and powertrain malfunctions involving repeated ignition-coil failures, engine misfires, and catalyst-system efficiency faults. These issues cause intermittent loss of power, hesitation during acceleration, and unstable engine performance. The malfunction has occurred multiple times since the date of purchase and has been confirmed through diagnostic trouble codes related to misfire events and catalyst-system operation. A certified Mitsubishi dealership confirmed that the failure pattern aligns with an active manufacturer recall and corresponding technical service bulletin affecting the same model year, engine type (4b11), and vehicle platform. I was informed that the vehicle “falls under” the same defect pattern listed in the current recall/TSB; however, because the vehicle no longer has an active factory warranty, the dealership stated they would have to sell the repair parts rather than process the issue under recall or warranty coverage. Despite this, the same safety-related symptoms described in the recall and TSB continue to occur. The defect presents a safety hazard because the vehicle may lose power or fail to accelerate when entering traffic, merging, or navigating intersections. Warning indicators have appeared repeatedly, including the check engine light and catalyst-system warnings. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by authorized service personnel on multiple occasions. All components and diagnostic documentation are available for inspection upon request.

Engine and yes available for inspection. I had been driving then all of a sudden the service engine immediately light started rapidly flashing and the car would hardly go. Turned around parked at home, towed to dealership where they said the engine compressor was not working and I would need a rebuilt engine for over $5000. Towed it back home and now looking for a new car. There were no warning lights or any other symptoms prior to this happening. It was an all of a sudden warning. If I had been on the freeway, my safety would have been at risk as it just died without warning.

My Mitsubishi vehicle has an open recall related to a drive belt issue. Mitsubishi confirmed the recall, but the company have not completed the repair or scheduled an appointment, even after several attempts to contact them. The vehicle has stalled multiple times while driving, including on city roads. When it stalls, the check engine light comes on, and the car loses all power. I have to restart it to keep driving. This is a serious safety risk because it happens suddenly and could lead to an accident. The alternator and battery were both tested and are in good condition, so the problem appears related to the recalled belt or electrical system. The issue was confirmed by an independent mechanic, but Mitsubishi has not provided a repair or timeline. The problem continues and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive, especially in cold or highway conditions.

Initial oil change visit: brought leased vehicle under full warranty to the dealership for its first oil change. No issues were mentioned at this time. First return (after 5 minutes driving): after leaving the dealership, warning lights and unusual sounds began within 5 minutes of driving. Returned immediately. The service team claimed the issue was due to the 'oil gun not being recalibrated' and that they had topped the oil off using a jug. This was later revealed to be a lie. Second return (after another 5 minutes driving): the same warning lights and noises returned after driving only 5 minutes. Returned again to the dealership. This time, they admitted that no oil had ever been put into the vehicle after the oil was drained. The service manager stated that the engine was 'cooked' and would need to be replaced. Admission by service manager: the service manager personally drove me to the rental car location. During this time, he admitted that the technician had simply forgotten to refill the oil after draining it, stating they had 'just gotten busy. ' he had no explanation for why the dealership had lied during the first return visit. Safety concerns: this negligence could have had catastrophic consequences. If the engine had blown up while driving, I could have crashed, potentially injuring or killing myself, my pregnant fiancée who was with me, and our unborn child. This was not just an inconvenience but a severe, reckless breach of safety and trust. Dealer’s resolution: the dealership later acknowledged fault and offered to replace the engine with a new one. However, given the severity of the negligence and the safety risk, we refused and ultimately walked away from the lease when they would not provide an equivalent vehicle under the same terms. They instead paid off the remaining lease balance ($42,286. 94). -sent certifed formal demand letters to dealer and manufacturer -sent follow up emails to both -have not received response to my complaints.

Hesitation when accelerating. Has stalled while driving. Has come to a complete stop when put in reverse.
1. On hot/warm days when I start my vehicle it will run then die and give me the code for mass air sensor which I replaced but it keeps doing it; the check engine will stay on for a while then turn off until it does it again. 2. When driving and I go over a speed bump the suspension grinds or does a hard squeaking noise. 3. The usb in the center console stops working at times or when move the charging cord it disconnects for a few seconds. 4. Internal lights work when they want to, I thought the bulbs where burnt out and replaced them but they still come on when they want to not everytime a door is opened.

Camshaft phaser shattered and is missing a chunk of metal.
In less than one year with this car, 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander sport, is hesitating when accelerating then jerking forward into 4th gear, while driving at various speeds, the steering column vibrates makes loud sound, I’ve replaced the headlights at least 6x, water is getting in the vehicle somehow even a car wish will leave the floorboards soaking wet, the steering sways. This car had given me more issues in a year than all my cars throughout my lifetime combined and vehicle's VIN number was not included in many safety recalls. Can increase the risk of the crash.

For the past 3 winters since I had this vehicle when it is cold outside the vehicle starts hard or will not start at all requiring a jump. It will not shift gears, or accelerate. The battery light comes on after the vehicle is running. I have called the local dealership and was told this happens when it is cold. I was told to bring the car in and let it sit there when it's cold so they can try and re create the problems they stated the battery is fine. As of today the vehicle started to leak oil after it started hard. When I purchased the vehicle I had noticed the hood shakes and bounces when driving. I mentioned this to the sales agent and they stated it was a known issue and they would recall the hood but it was a timely process. It is unsafe to drive a vehicle that will not accelerate or change from reverse to park and then roll it is also. Unsafe to drive with oil leaking in your car I have made my vehicle available each time there is a situation the battery light comes on but has been tested at the dealership in the last 2 months this happens every time it's cold I call and they tell me itsa known issue when it's cold. When I purchased the vehicle I noticed the hood bouncing I asked the sales person about it and they said it was a known issue and they would fix it when the parts came in. I should have been more careful as it was a vehicle right off the truck.

The vehicle is not starting in 20 degree fahrenheit needing to be jumped every time it is cold. The phev has a full battery and there is gas in the tank and it has been doing this lately. Every test is coming back okay from the dealer now it says service engine.
1) 12/20/2024: took the car to a Mitsubishi dealer as the 'check engine light' was on for a few days. They erased the code but could not diagnose the cause. Returned home and could not charge the car using the same standard outlet (level 1) I used since I bought the car. The instrument cluster displayed the following (please see pic 1): a) error message 'phev system fault, service required'. B) check engine light. C) forward collision mitigation system [fcm] off warning light. D) rear automatic emergency braking [rear aeb] system off warning light. E) plug-in hybrid ev system warning light. Since 12/20/2024, I have been driving the car with these serious safety issues. 2) 1/2/2025: 'on-board charger' was replaced by the dealer. But the same error continued. Per dealer invoice, they "performed drive cycle pattern 3 and the code returned". Obviously under certain conditions, the erased code returned. 3) since mid-November, 2024, I have been noticing two different ev range mileage. Please see pic 2. My phone app showed (on 1/26/2025) a 51 mile ev range whereas the instrument cluster showed only a 39 mile range. All the errors still remain as of 1/26/2025. 4) opened a case with Mitsubishi but they are refusing to respond with updates. With so many safety issues due to 'phev system fault', I am afraid of taking the car out.
Car will drive on interstate then will be unable to accelerate on interstate warning, “propulsion power reduced” light turns on and vehicle speed decreases and car does not accelerates and loses speed. I had to stop vehicle multiple times to reset the car per advice on the internet but car continues with drastic decrease in speed on the interstate and message “propulsion power reduced. ” car is serviced as per car dealership recommendations but now car is not safe to drive on the interstate.
I would that it's too early for my vehicle with 64900 miles already has an oil pan gasket that causes a leak to my vehicle every time I do oil change on time and also that I have a cooler hose of the transmission leaked and for the transmission to be in service every 60000 miles. So I filed a complaint against the manufacturer who is the cause for this model for the same year to have the same problem for having any leaks too early. So I need your help that the manufacturer should recall the same model from this year based on the mileage of the vehicle.
While driving down the highway at 70 mph, my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander sel suddenly shut off without warning, causing the entire dashboard and instrument cluster to go dark. In a matter of seconds, the vehicle unexpectedly braked on its own, decelerating from 70 to 0 mph in an extremely short distance. This abrupt stop nearly caused an 18-wheeler behind me to rear-end my vehicle. Thankfully, the truck driver was able to swerve just in time, narrowly avoiding a catastrophic collision. The situation could have resulted in severe injuries or fatalities. During the incident, all power to the vehicle was lost. The brakes became unresponsive and impossible to press, and the steering became extremely difficult to control, making it nearly impossible to maneuver the vehicle safely. This is the fifth time my vehicle has experienced this issue, with the past three instances almost ending in serious accidents due to the car’s complete failure to respond. After a few seconds of total power loss, the vehicle inexplicably starts back up on its own and operates as if nothing had happened. Despite this recurring and life-threatening malfunction, the dealership has been unable to identify or fix the problem after four repair attempts. Each time, they’ve tried different fixes: 1. Initially, a software update was performed. 2. Next, the adas controller was replaced. 3. Then, the body computer was swapped out. 4. Now, they are attempting to replace a power distribution system. Even after these numerous interventions, the problem persists, and the dealership has no clear understanding of the underlying cause. They have viewed a video of the incident that I provided, but no actual solution has been identified. The dealership has resorted to seeking advice from other brand technicians in an attempt to resolve the issue, but to date, there is no resolution in sight. This defect poses an imminent danger to my safety and the safety of others on the road.
The contact owns a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph on the highway, the vehicle was shuddering. The vehicle was losing motive power. The vehicle failed to start. The contact added additional fuel. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 22v027000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed the fuel pump was bad and there was no recall coverage. the vehicle was repaired. But the failure recurred. While driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle sputtered and was hesitating and jerking. The vehicle overheated and began to spudder. The engine warning light was illuminated. The temperature gauge increased to high. The contact was able to move over to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the coolant module. And relay needed to be relaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 96,416.
As far as the engine, I received two different dashboard notification icons about engine issues. However, they both disappeared suddenly. Now, my car is starting to stall at random times. I looked to see if my car had a recall and it says my vehicle was not effected. But I'm wondering if it as. Also, my front collision warning is malfunctioning. There is a malfunction warning label on the dashboard.
I bought a Mitsubishi Outlander 2016 and just in couple of month the car doesn’t want to engage on the transmission , the SUV doesn’t go forward or backwards, it sound like the engine tend to try but the car doesn’t move.
Starter clicks, doesn't turn engine. Tried rotating engine, engine will not turn past a certain angle. Removed spark plugs for cylinder inspection. 1,2, and 3 ok. Cylinder 4 spark plug extremely difficult to remove. Ground strap has been impacted by debris. Borescope inspection shows two broken off exhaust valves laying on the piston. Valve cover removed to inspect timing chain and sprokets. Chain and sprokets are intact. Engine reassembled besides cylinder 4 spark plug and coil pack.
Multiple and random cylinder misfires. Fixed more than three times and continuously, same issue. Many issues with revving up. Safety risk while driving due to stalling.
Vehicle gives warning of engine malfunction power reduced service now and started only 30 days after purchase the dealer says take pictures when the warning appears and bring the vehicle in. This will be the 5th complaint about the same problem with no results.
Unknown. The transmission service light comes on and the vehicle drags until you turn the car off and restart it. I noticed online there's a cvt transmission recall and was wondering if this is what is happening to my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander sport. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated; however, the contact stated that the warning light was due to a failed O2 sensor. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 105,979.
While driving or coming to a stop, the engine will shut off, the infotainment system will reboot and the car needs to be stopped, put into park if it hadn't done so and turned back on. It does this randomly and because the dealer cannot recreate it, it constantly gets ignored. We are not sure why this happens but it is extremely unsafe.
Entire engine and electrical system failure not corrected with new battery or $30,000 mi. Service. Once I turn car off, everything freezes up and won’t start again. Windows, steering, starter, everything locks up. Had to tow it to service 2 times in 3 weeks and they claim they can’t find problem. Dangerous!.
I keep getting a message on my dashboard that indicates my engine malfunction power reduced service now…. This is the second time this has happen … first time I took it to dealer they said OH they don’t see anything after taking to put it on machine and it said my engine was failing then today easter it’s back and it’s really scaring me and the dealer is to far to be driving the car and this message keeps appearing.
