My 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander phev has experienced recurring, severe powertrain failures causing a dangerous 'phev system fault / power reduced' limp mode at highway speeds, dropping instantly from 60+ mph to severely restricted speeds. This creates an immediate risk of a high-speed rear-end collision. The vehicle is currently fully dismantled at jidd motors Mitsubishi while technicians execute an extensive internal mechanical teardown of the engine's valve cover and cylinder valvetrain assembly to look for top-end structural damage. The vehicle has been non-functional and out of service for 38 days with no fix in site and at this point no communication from Mitsubishi.

The car itself should not be sold considering the number of complaints about the transmission issues. I’ve only had the car a month and its started to stall and jerks when in acceleration. The gears started to not shift properly and the car would not go over 20 miles without jerking. I took the car back to the lot to get it fixed and then it stopped, was driving back smoothly. The car shop said they changed the transmission oil which supposedly was the problem. 2 weeks later the car is back stalling and jerking with the “transmission service required” light back on yet again.

Emergency tow bill etc vihicle is at burdick Mitsubishi in cicero NY and dealer says Mitsubishi has denied as secondary damage as per recall. Waiting on dealership for denial letter.

This vehicle exhibits a severe and dangerous acceleration hesitation, accompanied by a sudden, momentary loss of engine torque when pulling out from stops or trying to merge onto highways. This unexpected loss of power leaves the vehicle stranded briefly in oncoming traffic, creating an immediate crash hazard. This failure matches the exact physical defect and symptoms detailed in NHTSA recall 16v563000 (Mitsubishi campaign sr-16-006). The dangerous safety defect is actively persisting whether the remedy was already completed or not (Mitsubishi states that my vehicle is not included in the recall—this is not true—which will be explained in more detail at the end of this description. In a good-faith effort to resolve this dangerous hesitation, the transmission valve body was recently replaced out-of-pocket, but the identical recall symptoms remain entirely unchanged. This proves that the initial software recall remedy was structurally inadequate to permanently secure the mechanical safety of the vehicle. Mitsubishi corporate customer relations was formally notified of this failed recall remedy, but they have refused to provide assistance or resolve the issue. When asked to provide information where and when was a remedy completed on the aforementioned recall, Mitsubishi also stated via email that, “your vehicle VIN [xxx] is not included in recall 16v563000 (Mitsubishi campaign sr-16-006),” which is not true. The communication with Mitsubishi can be seen in attached documents and one can confirm that my vehicle is actually included in recall 16v563000 (Mitsubishi campaign sr-16-006) when searching into recalls on NHTSA website and reviewing documents (both NHTSA and Mitsubishi related documents). 2 issues contributed to accident: 1st - vehicle did not go into park when button on gear shift was pushed. Driver did not notice that vehicle remained in drive and exited the vehicle. 2nd - vehicle did not automatically engage the emergency brake/park mode it is designed to do when vehicle is in drive and driver door opens. As a result, vehicle began to roll forward. Driver was knocked down and fell to ground and vehicle ran over her legs, coming to a stop with the rear driver side tire on her leg.

The contact owns a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, however the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The rpm's increased. In addition, the vehicle hesitated and jerked. O warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact has an upcoming diagnostic testing appointment scheduled. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

While on even a slight hill, sometimes the car rolls back if I am not moving forward. For example, if ai am stopped at a red light, the car will roll backwards (instead of not moving or going forward). It’s an automatic transmission so this should not occur. I. E. The transmission is already starting to go out b4 35k miles. There are also instances of one wheel “dragging” or delayed propulsion compared to the other wheel. It is very difficult to get in touch with a dealership for warranty info. I am in berkeley and no one picks up the phone from the fremont dealership or calls back when I leave a message.

Each time for the last year and a half that I have taken my car in for service or just stopped in and showed them that my radio is saying overheated current, they would test it and say that they couldn't recreate the error despite me showing that it would not connect my phone to the car or charge. I also reported having a random warning that my car was unleveled when driving and they said the computer shows no errors. When I last took my car in for an oil change 1/30/26 I had a break check done because my brakes acted like they didn't want to stop and were making a sound. They told me that my breaks and rotors were find and probably needed to be washed. The sound is louder now so I went to schedule my oil change and make the reports again to find out that the company closed down and there is no dealer close to my location. I filed a cfpb complaint due to the Mitsubishi telling me there is nothing they can do.

A certified Mitsubishi dealership confirmed that the failure pattern aligns with an active manufacturer recall and corresponding technical service bulletin affecting the same model year, engine type (4b11), and vehicle platform. I was informed that the vehicle “falls under” the same defect pattern listed in the current recall/TSB; however, because the vehicle no longer has an active factory warranty, the dealership stated they would have to sell the repair parts rather than process the issue under recall or warranty coverage. Despite this, the same safety-related symptoms described in the recall and TSB continue to occur. The defect presents a safety hazard because the vehicle may lose power or fail to accelerate when entering traffic, merging, or navigating intersections. Warning indicators have appeared repeatedly, including the check engine light and catalyst-system warnings. I own a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander sport. Mitsubishi's records show that safety recall c2204r/sr-22-004 was previously completed on my vehicle. This recall addressed improper cvt-ecu software programming that could cause an incorrect cvt gear-ratio command and potentially result in engine over-rev, engine damage, stalling, and an increased risk of a crash. My vehicle experiences serious and concerning problems following sustained driving at highway speeds. The vehicle begins to sputter and does not operate normally. Multiple dashboard warning lights begin flashing, and the backup camera activates and displays on the screen even though the vehicle is actively traveling forward and has not been placed in reverse. Because of these experiences, I intentionally avoid driving my vehicle for extended periods at higher highway speeds. I am particularly concerned about whether these symptoms could be associated with the cvt, cvt-ecu, vehicle electronics, or the condition previously addressed by safety recall c2204r/sr-22-004. The fact that Mitsubishi's records indicate the recall was completed raises additional concern for me about whether the recall remedy remains effective or whether my vehicle is experiencing a related condition. I am requesting that NHTSA document and review this complaint to determine whether my vehicle may be experiencing a recurrence or continuation of the condition addressed by c2204r/sr-22-004, an issue with the effectiveness of the recall remedy, or another safety-related defect. I am especially concerned about the possibility of loss of vehicle performance while traveling at highway speeds and the abnormal activation of the backup camera while the vehicle is moving forward.

After an afternoon driving in the rain most of the previous day my vehicle started to produce a clunking noise from the rear and front of the vehicle. I was able to stop at my mechanic near by and have them check the problem. My mechanic was able to diagnose the issue as a rear end differential coupler issue and said a bulletin had been posted about the issue. He was unable to work on the problem due to the specific equipment needed for the vehicle. I was able to call the closest dealership where they confirmed this was an issue they have been seeing more of this problem lately. So much so they had stocked that part and run out of that part. As I turned out into traffic I could have easily caused someone to rear end my vehicle due to the lack of engagement from the drive-train. Had I been on a busy road this would have caused an accident. The problem was reproduced and confirmed by my local mechanic in shepherd, michigan at 1st street auto. The vehicle is currently located at a showcase Mitsubishi in bay city, michigan scheduled for repair on Tuesday September 9th where the part will be replaced. No warning lamps, messages were displayed. No other symptoms occurred before this incident.

The failure mostly occurred while driving at highway speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, and determined that the braking system needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the repair was not covered under the two-year warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond intermittently while attempting to drive from a complete stop on the roadway. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander sport. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated upon depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle had failed to shift to reverse(r). The warning message "service transmission" was displayed. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there were metal shavings in the transmission. The mechanic determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v563000(power train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,429.

Hesitation when accelerating. Has stalled while driving. Has come to a complete stop when put in reverse.

Car during acceleration feels very jerky, safety issue as during turns if acceleration it might jerk make it feel a bit unknown of what speed it might be. Additionally such jerkiness might cause driver to be kicked back into seat and head rest potentially causing injury. Feel like it might be cvt slipping at times.

While driving on a highway at approximately 55–60 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost its ability to accelerate and maintain power. The engine rpm increased, but the vehicle would not respond normally, creating a significant safety hazard in traffic. The cvt transmission intermittently enters a reduced-power mode (limp mode), making it difficult to safely merge or continue driving. Diagnostic trouble codes p0776 (pressure control solenoid b performance) and p0730 (incorrect gear ratio) were confirmed by an independent transmission repair shop, which diagnosed the transmission as failed and recommended replacement. This vehicle has previously been subject to cvt-related recalls, but the transmission still experienced this failure.

Took the car in for routine cvt fluid and filter change. Mechanic completed the task took the vehicle for a road test and at highway speed the cvt transmission shifted to a higher gear and revved the motor rpms immediately over 6000 to 7000. Threw it into neutral and took back to the shop. It was diagnosed from their the transmission was ruined.

In less than one year with this car, 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander sport, is hesitating when accelerating then jerking forward into 4th gear, while driving at various speeds, the steering column vibrates makes loud sound, I’ve replaced the headlights at least 6x, water is getting in the vehicle somehow even a car wish will leave the floorboards soaking wet, the steering sways. This car had given me more issues in a year than all my cars throughout my lifetime combined and vehicle's VIN number was not included in many safety recalls. Can increase the risk of the crash.

In the morning where I live for the last few days it has been below 0. The Outlander phev even when plugged in over night will start the gas engine and drive for about one minute until the gas engine shuts off and comes up with a message saying power reduced with a turtle symbol. When it does this you have no heat (hvac) the heated seats and heated steering wheel does not work as well as the front and rear defrost. The car speed seems to be limited to about 40mph. This issue is not news as many phev owners are dealing with the same issue, from my understanding Mitsubishi didn't install a battery warmer on the new generation Outlander phev however the prior generation Outlander phev did have a battery warmer and there were no issues with that model in cold climates. Your vehicle should always be a reliable source of heat when needed it doesn't seem to be very reliable in cold climates and it really is a hazard when it decides to reduce power with no warning.

The continuously variable transmission (cvt) system failed. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The failure caused the vehicle to lose acceleration, delay response to the gas pedal, and jerk while driving. These issues made it unsafe to drive, as the car could not maintain a consistent speed, risking accidents, especially in traffic or during merging. Yes, the issue was confirmed by the dealer, jim shorkey Mitsubishi north huntingdon, after inspection. They verified the problem and provided diagnostic codes indicating internal transmission failure (p0776, p0868, p0446). 01-16-25 the vehicle was inspected by the dealership’s service department. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Yes, warning lamps or messages were displayed prior to the failure about 7-14 days prior. Cvt transmission bad at 81,000 miles as well as the transfer case causing delay in shifting and rough shifting.

I would that it's too early for my vehicle with 64900 miles already has an oil pan gasket that causes a leak to my vehicle every time I do oil change on time and also that I have a cooler hose of the transmission leaked and for the transmission to be in service every 60000 miles. So I filed a complaint against the manufacturer who is the cause for this model for the same year to have the same problem for having any leaks too early. So I need your help that the manufacturer should recall the same model from this year based on the mileage of the vehicle.

While driving on the highway the car did a "skip", then the check transmission light came on. I got off the highway, shut the car off, waited a while and started the car again. The light was off so I drove home. As I was driving the light came on again. The next time it came on the code was p084a. Have not had it checked by dealer yet. The mechanic said it would cost $5000-7000 to fix or replace. Every time the car sits and restart the light does not come on, sometimes I can drive for some time and nothing happens, sometimes the light comes on. Not sure what to do.

Purchased used car in July 2024 and was able to drive it maybe 2 months and the transmission would not shift and would come to a complete stop. Not a safe feeling driving in 3 lanes of traffic on a busy highway at rush hour. Transmission light on and took to mechanic and was told this make and model is notorious for transmission failure and it needs replacing. The odometer is 86316 and car has been sitting now for two years. Of course we went exactly 100 miles over the warranty and now have to pay 5000-9000 dollars for a replacement with no guarantee warranty. So now we have the car paid off and can’t drive it because it’s out of budget to replace. Thanks a lot Mitsubishi for nothing.

I bought a Mitsubishi Outlander 2016 and just in couple of month the car doesn’t want to engage on the transmission , the SUV doesn’t go forward or backwards, it sound like the engine tend to try but the car doesn’t move.

The issue with the car involves a problem with the steering gear box. The grease between the rack and support yoke seat has thinned, leading to increased friction during steering. This causes the support yoke to drag along with the motion of the rack, resulting in contact with the rack housing. As a result, a clunk sound and vibration are felt when turning the steering wheel, especially after the car has been stationary for a while. This issue is causing a loss of power and control while driving, making the vehicle unsafe. The recommended fix involves replacing the steering gear box assembly and recalibrating the steering system. The service report id TSB-24-37-001.

Was driving up highway and all of a sudden it felt like the car was hesitating and had hard time shifting gears, when you pushed on the gas the rpms would go up and down but it seemed like the car wouldn’t go anywhere. I was in the left lane and traffic if going 70, 80 mph and the car would not go anywhere. It had to be towed to a garage. We was almost rear ended because we couldn’t get the car to go to get it off the I do have a text message from the machine from garage.

Persistent issue where the vehicle will loose all power to brakes, engine, instrument cluster and infotainment. This issue has almost caused 2 crashes out of the 3 occasions in which it has occurred. When the issue happens all power is lost as if the car were rolling in neutral while off, no indication of what is wrong or anything of the sort. It happened on the highway going about 65 mph, was able to steer (without power steering support) into the emergency lane as the car dramatically dropped speed. The brakes were also not being supported by the booster so it was extremely difficult to push the pedal, thankfully it was on a bit of an uphill. Put the car manually into park after it stopped, and by itself the car restarted, although some of the cluster components and infotainment components were very slow to restart. The next time this happened was in slow traffic, once again the car shut off with no warning of any kind. Once I managed to get the brake pedal pushed far enough for the brakes to engage, I managed to stop the car within a foot or so of the person in front of me. Once again, I put the car in park and it was able to restart on its own. Both times it has been to the dealer, don herring of plano, and as helpful as the service advisor is, there is still no solution in sight as they keep changing electrical components left and right. I am worried about the car becoming a rolling ball of metal that I cannot stop one day. I hope Mitsubishi figures this problem out, otherwise its a fatality waiting to happen.
