Got the "service engine soon" light on 07/31/2013 and the Nissan Altima 2005 suddently stopped while waiting in the red signal. The local mechanic told the code p0335 was being returned which meant crankshaft position sensor has failed. Since there was a campaign for the same model and probem, I contacted the Nissan customer care and they said this VIN was not part of the campaign. Going to check with the local dealer to reprogram the ecm.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

After 20 min or so of idling in traffic, then a 10 minute freeway drive at legal speeds I was approaching the off ramp and the clutch went to the floor, no hydraulic pressure. I was able to move out of the way of traffic without incident and pull over. After 10 min of talking to my insurance company for a tow, I noticed partial pressure restored and drove slowly home. Now, with research, I have seen this is extremely common and dangerous. Too many complaints have been filed online and with Nissan, yet there is no resolution and what's worse, no specific answer to the problem. I hope NHTSA doesn't wait for a serious injury or death to occur before this is looked into, a google search of Altima clutch recall brings up over a dozen forums with numerous complaints of the same problem.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

My car's "service engine soon" light initially came on Sunday, January 29th. Shortly after, my car was beginning to jerk while driving on the highway and felt as if the engine was sputtering while on local roads. We took it to auto zone for a diagnostic and two issues were discovered: the speed signal circuit as well as the crankshaft position sensor has been malfunctioning and needed to be replaced. After some research, we found that several thousand 2005 Nissan Altimas were recalled due to the crankshaft position sensor malfunctioning with a possibility of damage and injury. We contacted Nissan village and were informed that my VIN number was not on the list of recalled vehicles. I have owned quite a few cars and I have never heard of this part needing to be replaced. My local Nissan dealer wants to charge $300-$400 to repair this issue and I believe, even though this recall was initiated back in December 2007, these repairs should be covered as this is not a maintenance issue but rather a serious overall defect in this particular make, model and year. We have no choice but to get the vehicle repaired as we have children but wanted to make sure this complaint was lodged for reporting purposes. We will also be contacting Nissan to inform them of this issue and our dissatisfaction with the fact that the Nissan dealership wants to charge us for a repair that should be covered under a past recall. Thank you.

The similar failure also occurred when the vehicle was idle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic twice who replaced the oxygen and wheel speed sensors at different times for the similar failure. The defect recurred three months after the repair. The contact will have the vehicle repaired again. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000. Rvk.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

My "service engine soon" light came on and I later noticed that the engine was hard to start. While driving on the freeway there were two incidents where the motor almost died - I called and made an appointment with my local Nissan dealership. Meanwhile, I looked up any recalls for my year and model and there was one on the crankshaft position sensor from 2007 and I also noticed numerous complaints about this same issue. The dealership diagnosed a problem with this sensor and they replaced it but they also told me that my VIN was not on the recall list. I had to pay for the repair myself. I called Nissan and they won't do anything about it, stating that the recall was issued based on where the car was manufactured. The part failed regardless of where the car was assembled. I think Nissan should consider expanding this recall to include all models involving this problem. This is a safety issue.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Had codes checked at another garage all the same ones came up. . 56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2010

The problem occurred on a Nissan Altima, with a 2. 5 l engine. The vehicle, surges sputters and loses power at highway speed. When it occurs it results in a fault code relating to the crankshaft position sensor. The vehicle was recalled to reprogram the electronics because of a similar problem, several years ago, but I was told by a mechanic the problem lies with the old style crankshaft sensor, which has since been "redesigned. " I understand a similar problem is common with the camshaft position sensor which malfunction. The car bucks, surges, sputters and loses power, which can result in an accident, as it most frequently occurred at high speed. I understand the same problem can cause the car to be hard to start, which has also occurred on several occasions. I replaced the crankshaft sensor and the problem has not (yet) recurred. However, this is a $300 dealer fix. They will reprogram, but not replace this sensors free of charge.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

Nissan Altima (engine: 2. 5s, 2005 model) has engine intermittently stop running without warning while the vehicle is being driven at low speeds. This causes a lack of power steering and throttle and has nearly caused an accident. Vehicle has already had recall id from NHTSA: 07v527000 performed on it. There have been 5 recurrences of this issue dating between August 9 to present. Vehicle went to power Nissan of temp on August 20 2010 where dealer was unable to troubleshoot the issue, reproduce the issue, or find a root cause.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2010

Noticed intermittent issue when driving on hwy, car engine will stop/hesitate causing the card to decrease speed suddenly. After 10+ seconds the car will resume functioning normally, the check engine sensor will also come on. When diagnosing the code at a local autopart seller I receive a crankshaft position sensor issue. This issue cause the car to suddenly decelerate, which could cause significant injury. I have located an NHTSA campaign that describes a recall for 2005 Nissan Altima 2. 5l, stating that the "crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor", the campaign continues with "the interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor is so brief that the ecm logic does not have time to fix the issue which can cause the engine to stop suddenly. I have contacted the Nissan customer service dept and they will not even recognize NHTSA campaign id 07v527000. I have been quoted by the dealership for 350 dollars for the part.

I was driving my 2005 Nissan Altima 2. 5 sl when all of a sudden, the engine turned off. Luckily I was going at a low speed on a road with little traffic, but if I hadn't noticed it, or if I was on a highway, I could have been in a serious life threatening accident.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima and have been having problems with my car! I've taken it to a mechanic shop and it was put on a machine to see what was going on. And it came back my crankshaft position sensor has gone bad. So I went out and bought one and had it put in. And I would say about 3 days later the same thing started again. The car was idle up high then come down and I would start driving not even maybe a mile or less away from where I live it would just completely shut down. I would try to crank it several time and it would come on and then shut off. So I took it back to the shop and said OH maybe it was a bad sensor so I got another one and had that put in. So I'm thinking it's fixed well I could get to a very busy road and it would shut off doesn't matter where I was in the road or all the vehicles coming my way!! very scary thing to have to go through I've had so much stress cause of this problem I haven't been able to take my kids with me anywhere I go cause I didn't want them to be in the car! I have been having problems for like 2 months not ever thinking it could be Nissan's mistake. . When it would die I would just sit there trying to crank it and sometimes it would crank then maybe moving 5 feet die again. And then getting it cranked from that spot it would maybe go 20 feet and then die. I've had it to 2 mechanics and tested several times saying the same thing and also this crankshaft sensor can also cause other problems to the car. I've spent 300$ trying to fix this problem and to know it's been on a recall and I was never noticed kind of makes me so mad!! I have a family and kids that has to go everyday things and having this problem has been a pain. I think Nissan needs to try more to contact there customer and let them know. I know I've had the same address and was never noticed! so know I took it to Nissan and there telling me I have to pay 220$ for the crankshaft position sensor?? im like what. . The only thing there doing is reprogramming it!!.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2010

After driving in stop and go traffic on a very hot day, the clutch pedal lost pressure and was very difficult to use and shift gears. The pedal lost all but the last amount of pressure. This has happened multiple times since the first incident. Always occurs in warm, humid weather and heavy usage. Could be very dangerous if all pressure is lost and shifting is impossible. This must be corrected!.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2010

2005 Nissan Altima - crankshaft sensor. My 2005 pre-owned Nissan Altima just experienced crank/start problems yesterday. After computer diagnostics were performed, they discovered that the ecm and the crankshaft sensor were defective. The dealership informed me that the 2005 Nissan models had a recall on the ecm modules and the crankshafts. They advised me to contact Nissan to ensure this had not been previously corrected during the original recall. I contacted Nissan to find out that it had never been corrected. Nissan rep divya cheeran advised me that the ecm and frame were on recall however the crankshaft was not. I informed her that the dealership had already informed me of the recall for the crankshaft. She insisted the dealership was wrong and there was no recall of any crankshaft on any Nissan vehicles. I told her that I was looking at a consumer affairs report on the internet as well as the report/recall notice with national highway traffic and safety administration. She still refuted the fact that there had been any recall on the crankshafts for the 2005 Nissan Altimas. However, she advised me to take my car into the nearest dealership (sheehy Nissan in springfield, va) to have the ecm and frame fixed. She stated that once the ecm was fixed it would resolve the cranking and shutting off problems I was experiencing. I advised her that the mechanic at the dealership had already confirmed that would not remedy the problem with the crankshaft and I would like for Nissan to acknowledge the recall and fix the ecm and crankshaft. It was public knowledge and record that there was a known problem with this and could be potentially hazardous to my health and the health of my newborn who frequently travels with me. I advised her that $200 to fix the crankshaft should be nothing to Nissan as opposed to me filing a lawsuit with them if any harm came to me or my child due to this hazard. Can you please assist me with getting my car fixed?.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

We owned a 2005 Nissan Altima. While driving at approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle started jerking and then stopped running. Vehicle was taking to mechanic, and mechanic said problem was with defective crankshaft sensors. We communicated this information to dealership, who acknowledge that there was defective crankshaft sensors recall, but that our VIN number was not included in the recall. The dealership would not fix the problem. Crankshaft sensors were changed. New parts were completely different from the old ones (totally new redesign) car had about 60,000 miles when incident occurred.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

I own a 2005 Nissan Altima. On my way home from work, my car cut off while going across a bridge. Luckily my children were not in the car. I found out that there was a recall on my car regarding reprogramming the ecm in the engine. However, I had to get my crankshaft sensor replaced. 66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

2005 Nissan Altima - when going up a grade the vehicle dies. This has happened a number of times on tioga pass, on the bay bridge, on hwy 46 in the fog, on the 580 ect. Mechanic indicates that the computer code is p2135 - throttle position sensor, mechanic states the throttle body needs to be replaced. Hopefully this will be covered under my extended emission warranty. I'll be driving at 65 miles an hour and sometimes when going up a hill the car will die, the lights and radio stay on but their is no power. I have to put on my hazard lights and get over to the shoulder put it in park and restart the car. A number of times this happened in very dangerous situations like on the bay bridge where there isn't room to pull over. Last night I was on CA 46and it was very foggy. The car died and there was no shoulder to pull over on. I had to stop in the lane and restart the car, in the dark and fog, on a curvy and busy hwy. My mechanic indicates that this problem has been an issue with Nissan Altima's. No recalls/mandatory fixes have been issued. I'm looking at a $544 repair bill. I have to take it to the dealership to see if it might be covered under the extended warranty. I don't have the VIN # because the car is in the shop. I can get that info tomorrow if you need it.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2009

While driving at low speeds the car is cutting off completely. This happened twice and then I took the vehicle into the dealer. The vehicle has approx 84,00 miles. The check engine and brake lights come on but there is no power to the vehicle. After waiting a few minutes the car will start back up. This happens without notice and you do not have time to pull over. After taking car into dealer I was informed that the crankshaft needed to be replaced at a cost of over $300. There is a recall to have the crankshaft reprogrammed but it does not cover replacement.
