My 2005 Nissan Altima uses about 3 quarts of oil between oil changes. I see no leaks so it is losing oil in the engine somewhere. There are thousands of complaints about this very problem, why is there nothing done about this?.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while the vehicle was sitting idle in front of his residence, with the engine on, the vehicle caught on fire without warning. The dealer advised the fire originated from a hole in the side of the oil pan. The contact confirmed the vehicle did not exhibit any signs of an oil leak. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.
The car would suddenly stop while driving almost causing fatal accidents. Car was taken to Nissan to have a recall fixed for this exact problem. Nissan stated they would not reprogram the ecm under the recall until the crankshaft position sensors were replaced and was charged 350 dollars for parts and labor. The recall stated the sensors could overheat and cause brief interruption to the ecm and cause the car to stall. If the sensors are causing the problem why are they not recalled as well? further review online shows the original sensors were made from plastic and could crack and leak oil onto the sensor causing them to fail and the new revised ones are made from metal.
I bought the car on 9/20/04. On 10/3/04 I noticed that, the engine was leaking oil. Dipstick showed oil level was below low mark. Dealer inspection traced oil leak to the galley plug.
