Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle began to have a loud knocking noise that was heard from the front of the vehicle, black smoke was observed coming from the hood of the vehicle while the check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the piston had fractured and the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000. Ec.

2 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that after driving for a long period, there was a knocking noise coming from the engine. After checking the oil dip stick, it was discovered that the engine oil was low. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 06v223000 (engine). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
