3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2020

Car stalled in middle of road while turning left. Started again, but died when put in gear. Pushed it out of the road after traffic cleared. Attempted to drive in for repairs next day, but it sputtered and died halfway there. Had it towed to dealer. Dealer says $4300. 00 for transmission replacement. Dealer said he was unaware of this particular problem and that the 3 outstanding recalls were for minor safety adjustments. Clearly lying to me given the wealth of data regarding similar transmission failures for this model/year I have found online. At no point was there a warning/hazard/engine light on. Very very dangerous defect and should be subject to recall.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

When I make a stop and then I leave the transmission fails and the car is very slow but the rpm goes up very high.

9 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

I bought a 2013 Nissan Altima in 2017. 4 months after the purchase with only 65,000 miles the car stalled in the middle of the highway with my children in it. I was able to get it restarted and the next day while working the transmission gave out in the middle of a parking lot. The cvt transmission was replaced at the Nissan dealership. Now 65,000 miles later the new cvt transmission died while I had a youth client in my car for work. This is extremely unsafe for a transmission to fail at the drop of a hat in the middle of the road. There is currently a class action suit against Nissan due to this issue. This is effecting my work and is not a reliable car. This needs to be recalled. Also the air compressor is an issue as well. This also needs recalled. There are hundreds of people who are experiencing these issues. What if the car would stop in the middle of a road and someone would hit me while I am with my children or a client? this needs to be looked into please. Because Nissan is refusing to help me at all for this second transmission that is only 2 years old!!!!.

10 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. While driving 65 mph, the transmission completely failed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to Nissan of sacramento (2820 auburn blvd, sacramento, CA 95821, (916) 604-4095) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,953.

11 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

The vehicle has around 57,500 miles, was bought certified pre-owned at a Nissan dealership in 2016, and has only been serviced by a Nissan dealership since purchase. The vehicle failed to properly accelerate after a stoplight. The vehicle was stopped at this light and could only accelerate to about 12 mph afterwards regardless of how hard I pushed the gas pedal. I tried stopping and shifting to park then back to drive, yet the problem persisted. This is incredibly dangerous as it happened without warning. No lights came on and no alerts populated on my dashboard screen. This has happened multiple times before, and it seems to be a common problem among Altima owners. This seems to result from a defective continuously variable transmission (cvt), and the failure to properly accelerate will eventually lead to complete transmission failure. Hopefully, this will not happen when I am on a busy road or interstate as this is immensely dangerous and possibly fatal.

12 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2019

Transmission fail. My 2013 Nissan Altima started shuddering at acceleration for few days then suddenly started to hesitate and go into limp mode. The car would not move when pressing the pedal or in reverse. This has caused a safety hazard in the middle of the highway when the car suddenly lost its power to move as if it's in coma. Two mechanic shops said the cvt transmission system needs replacement. Costs 3500$. Cannot afford it of course and the car itself now is not worth this amount.

13 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

Cvt transmission failed in highway traffic.

14 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2019

Call stalls and jerks when coming to a stop, and engine then cuts out and dies. Car then has trouble re-starting and loses power. Appears to be a transmission failure. Car is a 2013 and only at around 60k miles. Extremely dangerous. There should be a recall on the cvt transmission of the 2013 Nissan Altima - a very well-documented problem.

15 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 40 mph and the engine revved as it was coasted off the road. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for a tune-up and was subsequently towed to crown Nissan dealer (866-239-1758, located at 5151 34th st n, st. Petersburg, FL 33714) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered a seventy-five percent discount off the repair cost. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

16 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2018

Transmission failed at 65k mileage.

17 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2018

Transmission failed, car being to jerk and jerk then ride out smoothly this happened over a period of time,(5-6 months) then finally it got so bad that you could barely drive the car. Now the care will not drive it stalls and barely move when put in gear, transmission has failed.

18 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

When vehicle is put in gear it stalls. Nissan service department examined and is transmission failure. Now needs a new transmission. Vehicle has only 56,000 miles. While driving vehicle was on way to doctor appointment as I was stopping at light vehicle quit running.

19 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

The transmission fails to accelerate properly. Had it serviced several times including changing the transmission fluid. Only 85k miles, and the car completely choked only reaching 20 mph while trying to accelerate to merge into the highway. Currently getting serviced at Nissan of bakersfield, have 4 days and no response as to what the issue could be.

20 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2018

I am reporting a dangerous condition with 2013 Nissan cvt transmission. With no warning indicator the car's transmission failed while driving on the highway at 60 - 70 mph. While driving in moderate traffic, the engine revved to 6000 rpm and the car was moving at 20 mph I was able to coast through traffic to the shoulder and turn off the car and start again and was able to again proceed. This happened several times. After parking overnight, it would no longer move in forward or reverse. The car was towed to a Nissan dealership and was diagnosed with a failed transmission that will cost approx. $3700 to replace. I filed a case with Nissan customer care to appeal to them due to the relatively low miles for such a catastrophic failure. We learned today that they are providing no coverage for us due to the car being out of warranty.

21 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

I was on the highway and noticed the revs bounce up to 5. It then dropped down and my car lost power. I pulled on to the shoulder and shut the car off. Started it up again and it started ok. Pulled off onto the next exit and stopped. Went to proceed through stop sign. Accelerated and it wouldn't move. It's at the shop now. Possible transmission failure. Are you kidding me?? this shouldn't be happening in a 5 year old car. A very dangerous problem.

22 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

2013 Nissan Altima defective cvt. Purchased a used 2013 Nissan Altima with 62k miles on it and quickly realized I had bought a car with a failing transmission. It has been established that the transmission could fail in a manner that could cause an accident. The current symptoms are poor acceleration followed by a surge in acceleration, shuddering, etc. I have had the cvt fluid changed and reprogrammed twice and the issue still remains. Until I can have the transmission replaced I risk the vehicle suddenly DE-accelerating on the road without brake lights causing an accident.

23 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

I bought my car brand new with only 113 miles on it. I have sense put 160k highway miles on it but have had no issues until now because I get it serviced regularly. I was driving to work last week and at 30-45 mph the rpms started jumping between 1k and 2k. Once I got past 60 mph this stopped but eventually my car would stutter and stall at traffic lights making it dangerous if turning in front of traffic or coming through intersections. I took it in immediately for diagnostics and was told I needed a new transmission and since my warranty was out I would need to pay $4500 out of pocket. I got a second opinion and I was told by the dealership I service it at that it was my fault because I didn't have the transmission flushed when they told me to, yet there is nothing in the owners manual stating this is a requirement, only a recommendation by the dealer. As shady as dealerships are these days of course I didn't have it done because I assumed they were charging me for something unnecessarily. I spoke with a mechanic friend of mine and he said the transmission flush would have done nothing to prevent my transmission fail. What is even worse is that no warning lights came on and my dash looked the same as it always does, the only lights that came on were my battery and brake lights when my car shut off at a traffic light, but it started right back up after that. I have asked for assistance from Nissan and have been denied even though I have serviced my car with the dealer even after my warranty expired. There are 4 other people in my family that own Nissans but apparently that means nothing to this company. Needless to say if I can get this thing traded in on a Honda I will never purchase a Nissan again! also, just do a google search of problems with Nissan Altimas. The results are staggering.

24 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

Transmission failed at 44k mileage. First the engine shut off while driving without any warning or signs on highway. Then after reprogramming of the transmission by dealer, car runs abnormally. Engine rpm unstable, unpredictable, causing speed changes. No pedal response or slow acceleration. Difficult to accelerate, especially over 40 mph. Gear shifting between d and n very often leave the gear in n for a few seconds.

25 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

My 2013 Nissan Altima has 87000 miles on it and had a second transmission failure that needs replacing. This was quoted at $3600+ tax. This failure is due to a transmission fluid pressure sensor going bad that can't be changed alone and requires a whole new transmission. 2 transmission replacements in under 87000 miles is unreasonable.

26 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2018

My transmission failed and it only has 70000 miles on it, I know I'm not the only one this has happened to. I think everyone needs to be reimbursed or some form of compensation for this problem.

27 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2018

93,000 miles, transmission failed with no warning.

28 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

Complaint: transmission failure at 39,848 miles. On Nov 10, 2017, transmission failed on 2013 Nissan Altima bought new while stopped at intersection in downtown baltimore traffic. When approaching intersection, car bucked, then stalled and gas pedal failed to work. Turned car off and back on. Car limped another 3 or 4 blocks, then stopped completely and had to be towed to nearby sheehy Nissan glen burnie dealership where it was determined transmission would need to be replaced based on diagnostic codes p2813, p0776, and p0965. No warning lights came on before or during break down. The day before the break down, Nov 9th, Nissan of richmond had performed the 48 months scheduled maintenance during which they also did a pc490 recall, referring to it as an Altima cvt software diagnostic update and describing it as a software update for the transmission allowing their computer to interact better with the transmission computer. But the cvt diagnostic update did not prevent/predict a break down the very next day. Conditions: night time, below freezing (mid 20s), had just taken off-ramp to downtown after 3 hours of interstate driving averaging 65-70 mph on interstate and 25-30 mph downtown. History: Altima bought new, all vehicle maintenance was performed at recommended times/intervals with Nissan service dept. Vehicle has been used almost exclusively for local driving. Nissan Altima experienced shuddering when taken on extended trip two months ago (2 hour drive on interstate) then experienced transmission failure on next extended trip (3 hours on interstate) described above. No findings as to cause were available through Nissan glen burnie: service manager denied request to speak with technician who worked on vehicle; also denied request for copies of any notes/findings that service dept would be forwarding to Nissan corporate.

29 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

Complaint: Altima cvt software diagnostic update did not prevent/predict next day transmission failure. Nissan of richmond performed a pc490 recall on my 2013 Nissan Altima, Nov 9, 2017 -- referring to it as an Altima cvt software diagnostic update and describing it as a software update for the transmission allowing their computer to interact better with the transmission computer. But the cvt diagnostic update did not prevent/predict a break down the very next day which was diagnosed as a transmission failure by the sheehy Nissan glen burnie dealership where it was towed. When approaching an intersection on Nov 10th, the Altima bucked, then stalled and the gas pedal failed to work. No dashboard warning lights came on before or during the breakdown. Sheehy Nissan glen burnie determined the transmission would need to be replaced based on diagnostic codes p2813, p0776, and p0965. The 2013 Altima was bought new with only 39,848 miles at time of break down.

30 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2017

Transmission has failed abruptly in Nissan Altima 2013 at 79k miles almost ending in a collision in mid intersection. Nissan says it's past warranty and will not replace. I'm on the hook for $3800 for a faulty transmission that could've caused a deadly accident. My kids were in the car at the time. Even though other years have had warranties extended bc of the faulty cvt transmission, mine is not included. They said I could not appeal the decision. After talking to their consumer affairs division, I was told that bc I didn't have my car serviced at Nissan, I am basically not a loyal customer. This is my 4th Nissan. Obviously, I've been loyal. I chose to have regular oil changes, tire rotations, etc done somewhere closer as the dealership was difficult to get to all these years. I find their nonchalance in dealing w/their horrible transmission to be infuriating and I would like some answers. Thank you.

31 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. While the vehicle was stationary or while driving various low speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning on numerous occasions. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and would not accelerate forward in any gear when prompted. Bondy's Nissan in dothan, alabama was made aware of the failure and replaced the valve body on the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the warranty expired on the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that there was no recall or TSB for the failure. The contact was provided item number: 10109248 and ntb15-0878 as possible causes related to transmission failure of the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

32 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2017

Vehicle while in motion at low speed began to shudder, and stalled when brake applied. Afterwards, vehicle started while in park, but stalled immediately when shifting into drive. Dealer determined that cvt transmission had failed.

33 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

Cvt transmission failure at 76,000 miles. Within in 2 days the car went from a slight shudder to complete failure. According to my research and viewin thousands of other complaints, 2013 Nissan Altima should have a transmission recall. Had it failed on the freeway with my children in the car, I would be filing a lawsuit. Car is currently at a dealership and will remain there until I can afford $3500-$4000 for repairs. I have filed a complaint with Nissan consumer affairs.

34 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2016

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. When approaching a stop or when shifting gears into drive, the vehicle had a strong hesitation and stalled several times without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission failed and needed to be diagnosed by a transmission specialist. The dealer reprogrammed the transmission, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was not available.

35 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2016

I have a 2013 Nissan Altima that I purchased one year ago. When I purchased the vehicle it only had 25,000 miles on it and was still under warranty. About one month ago my car just died in the middle of the highway while I was driving it and I had to merge off of the highway before I was hit by other vehicles. The car would start right up after I turned it off, but not matter how hard I pressed on the gas peddle it would just sit there. I had the car towed to the local Nissan dealership and I was told that my cvt transmission had failed. I only have 75,000 miles on the car, but of course, the warranty was up at 60,000 miles. The service center at Nissan suggested that I call corporate Nissan and see if there was anything that they can do to help. I called Nissan and after weeks of playing phone tag with the representative handling my case, I was told that there wasn't anything that they would do to help me. I proceeded to ask her if she was aware that there is a class action law suit again Nissan regarding their faulty cvt transmissions and she said "yes" and that they would rather me sue them than just replace their faulty transmission. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed with Nissan and will never buy another one of their vehicles again. The total cost to replace my transmission was $5,000. 00, plus a month and a half of rental car charges.
