1 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/31/2020

My wife and I started to notice the dimness over a year ago, but it became more apparent when we drove through some back country with winding roads for a weekend getaway with the family. It was stressful, scary at times and obviously a hazard. I pretty much had to keep my high beams on for the whole stretch of the dark roads especially on sharp and blind turns. Since that experience, we try to steer clear of taking trips in the evening. . . But even now on regular routine drives on freeways or even pulling up to my court the dim beams are more obvious than ever. I went to get my oil change service done today, and mentioned my issue with the headlights and inquired about replacements. They suggested running a diagnostic to identify the source but it would cost $375 or something just to do that. . . I mentioned that they recently did a diagnostic (that I paid for when they were trying to figure out another concern I had with the brake light going and no issues were found, just needed to top off the brake fluid) so I passed on it. . . I then inquired about replacements and was told they would be about $400 to replace both sides. From that point I googled cost to compare and came across articles, forums that brought to light that I wasn't alone with my concern and issue with the headlights. And some comments mentioned replacements such as hid or led didn't do much to help the dim beam. I am not sure now if I want to spend the money to replace or keep googling on ways to help fix the problem in a more cost effective way. Hopefully there is a recall because the dim low beam is a hazard that fixing will save lives and make it less stressful at night to drive. . . Especially when carrying special cargo.

2 Brake Light problem of the 2018 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/12/2020

The vehicle is frequently not recognizing that the brake is depressed. The brakes work fine but with the car not recognizing the brake is depressed, it will not start (as it is a push button start and the brake needs to be depressed for the car to start). Also because of it not recognizing that the brake is depressed, it occasionally will not shift out of park. Additionally because the vehicle does not recognize that the brake is depressed, the brake lights do not work which is a huge safety issue as other vehicles do not know that the car is braking. It happens when the vehicle is stationary as well as when it is being driven both at low speeds and highway speeds. The brake light sensor I believe is to blame for all of the above issues. Apparently it is fairly common with Nissan Altimas and other Nissan vehicles as well. There should be a recall on that part as it creates unsafe conditions. The car is less than 2 years old and has 34,000 miles on it. I tried to schedule an appointment with my dealership where the car was purchased new but their first available appointment is 6-8 weeks away. I am bringing it into another repair facility tomorrow as it needs to be fixed urgently and cannot wait months.

4 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/18/2013

I spoke to 5 town Nissan who did a so called thorough check on my car stated that everything was perfect but the brake light went on. How can everything be perfect with the brake light going on. All I see is that these dealers say its good and cars are in perfect working condition when they are not.

5 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/13/2013

Brake light went on right after taking it out of the service center of Nissan dealer brake pedal dropped to floor.

6 Brake Light problem of the 2008 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/16/2011

Stepping on brake pedal intermittently fails to activate brake-lights,which also inhibits starter. If brake lights don't work once vehicle is underway that is a safety hazard. I have been repairing thing for 50 years and am 99. 9% sure the pins of the brake pedal switches are hanging up inside the bores, since wedging snow scraper against brake pedal and pushing plungers until they popped all the way out allows starting. Phoning a Nissan dealer's parts department confirmed availability then gave me a price of $39. 17 for switch(ES). Not looking forward to hunching under the dash,I talked to service to find out how much to install. An "improved brake wiring harness"is needed for "rare" occurrences at cost of $238 and labor of $149. When I asked if this might be a recall or under warranty he said"could not make any money" that way. If it is a design/construction problem Nissan should eat the cost. Internet search has some dealer recommending pushing harder on pedal or pounding-pulsing. Some replaced switches showed pitting of contacts{too much current too often?} do dozens of cars have to get rear-ended before action takes place??????????????????????? or does my wife have to have a heart attack because the car won't start and she will lose her job?.

7 Brake Light problem of the 2007 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/03/2009

While either starting or after starting my 2007 Nissan Altima when depressing the brakes the rear brake lights do not engage. This cause my vehicle to either not start or the brake lights to not work properly. I have brought my car to the dealership 3 times to include while under warranty but they told me there was nothing they could do unless they could duplicate the problem. Last night while driving home my lights worked fine. Then I parked my car for about 10 minutes and my brake lights would not work. This could cause serious problems if needed to stop fast. I have read forums where other people have had the same problem with their vehicles, like year and model. While driving the car at night it is easier to tell that the brake lights do not light up. But during the day you expect the lights to work and they might not.

8 Brake Light problem of the 2004 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/18/2007

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Altima. The contact noticed that the brake lights were not working. The owner's manual stated that the failure may be due to low battery power. He purchased a new battery, but the lights still would not illuminate. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they found a blown fuse that was causing the battery to drain and the brake lights not to work. The fuse was repaired. The current and failure mileages were 72,000. Updated 12/12/2007 updated 12/12/07.

10 Brake Light problem of the 1997 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/15/2004

Rear brake lights failure- both sides- first left then right- replaced went out again soon after. Lights on heater gauges failed. Cigarette lighter "female part" pulls out of dash when you take the lighter out. Passenger door panel came off-keeps the doors from unlocking- tried to fix it and ended up being locked in my car in the rain for an hour. Back passenger side seat belt was jammed. Also odometer is jammed-has never been tampered with. Was bringing my husband to work and I know that it is a 10 mile drive-none of the numbers rolled over. Works when it wants to.

11 Brake Light problem of the 1996 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/01/1996

From the moment I've purchased the vehicle, I noticed that once the brakes were applied at any speed, that the brake lights flicker and do not light properly. One side doesn't light while the other side does. This event only happens when the headlights are on. There is no problem when operating the vehicle without headlights or running lights on. This seems to be a common problem as I drive for a living and notice repeatedly that this incident occurs with virtually every Nissan Altima that I observe on the roads. I am concerned that because of the brake light issue this might cause a following vehicle to not see the brake lights properly and strike me or I might recieve a summons or possibly fail vehicle inspection. Dt.
