1 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/27/2021

While driving at night my dim headlights are so dim its as if they are not even on. It doesnt matter if im driving in the city or country its hard and getting harder to see the highway. Ive come close to having an accident several times. Only prevention was switching to high beam to be able to see. So if I end up having an accident due to this somebodys going to be served and spend more money than what they could have by preventing it. This is dangerous. How many people have to go through this? how many accidents were caused by this that resulted in death? we dont know bc they are dead!.

2 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/06/2021

While driving with headlights on there is very low visibility, it almost appears the headlights are not on at all. When switching to the high beams they appear to not be as bright as normal either. This is a huge problem that I fear could lead to a collision due to very low visibility.

3 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

My headlights are extremely dim when driving at night. I replaced the halogen bulbs, and it did not fix the problem. I also tried to switch to led bulbs, but that did not fix it either. On highways, it's hard to see street signs and on multi-lane freeways, the lane markers are harder to see because I'm going at a faster speed. On top of that, I cannot see further ahead on any road and oncoming car's headlights that are brighter than mine make the problem even worse. I need this problem fixed.

4 Headlight Switch problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/30/2020

When your turn signal lights are brighter than your low beam headlights you know you have a Nissan Altima. Low beam headlights are extremely dim. Have replaced bulbs with maximum brightness twice. Poly-carbonate housing is still relatively clear, no change in condition. Driving at night is harrowing. On highway, when cars are behind, their headlights create a shadow that the Altima beams cannot overcome. On city streets or county roads if there are no street lights the low beams project about 20 feet. High beams ok until encounter on-coming traffic and must switch to low beams. At that point you are totally in the black due to the Altima weak beams and the on-coming headlights. The best you can do is hope that a white line is painted on the edge of the roadway and try to stay in the lane. Fog conditions at night are horrible with weak low beam lights. Visibility is about 3 feet. Turning high beams on makes it equally bad. I can try to take some comparison pictures if NHTSA thinks it will help clarify this well documented issue with the Nissan Altima. Research indicates that reflector used in lighting housing goes bad and very little light is actually projected, no matter what bulb is installed. My vehicle is almost unusable at night and definitely in rain or fog. Absolutely will not let my teen drive the Altima at night. This is a dangerous safety issue that needs usg support. Nissan refuses to take any responsibility - refuting claims by owners and stating over $1000 to fix the issue. Nissan will not recall without usg intervention and we need NHTSA's help!.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

My head lights are very dim. I cannot drive at night and I have to use the high beams if I do. I have had the bulbs switched out and I have also had headlight restoration done on the headlights. Nothing has fixed the issue. This is very dangerous. Nissan needs to take responsibility and address this issue. This is a major safety concern and it needs attention. Nissan told me it would cost over $1600 to get new head lights.

6 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/15/2019

The last couple months I noticed the headlight were getting dimmer. I replaced the bulbs with ones that are 60% brighter but it was marginally brighter. I can barely see a few feet in front if it's completely dark. I can see my car's shadow cast from the lights of the car behind me. I cannot tell if the lights are on until I'm right behind a vehicle. Road signs are barely luminated and I have to switch to high beams if there are no cars ahead of me.

7 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

My low beam headlights are too dim on my 2013 Altima. I cannot see during night hours. It is dangerous to myself and others on the road. I have tried to switch headlight bulbs and nothing works. This is a safety hazard! I am in dallas, TX.

8 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/22/2018

The low beam headlights are not bright enough. Halogen, low beam (h11) bulbs are what is required for this vehicle, but ot is not bright enough. Switching out the halogen for hid and led is also not bright enough. The low beam lights illuminate up to 1 - 2 feet in front of vehicle. While driving at night the low beam is not bright enough to see what is in front of you and is a safty issue.

9 Headlight Switch problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/17/2016

The low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient light intensity and fail to safely illuminate the street ahead of you. This creates a very dangerous situation when driving at night, while raining, or under any low visibility conditions since you are not able to see objects. This issue was not present when I purchased the vehicle new, but became a serious safety hazard around 50,000 miles. Unfortunately, I have to drive with the high beams at night to be able to safely see. Sometimes, when I switch to low for an oncoming vehicle, I suddenly find myself driving completely without sufficient light.

10 Headlight Switch problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/02/2016

I recently switched from an Audi a6, which uses hid bulbs to a 2015 Nissan Altima 2. 5 l. This model uses halogen bulbs, as I have discovered. I was driving at night during the first week of owning the Nissan and had poor visibility of the road. I was driving slowly toward a stoplight and could not see the small strip of median to my left as I was coming to the stoplight. I hit it, and the sidewall in the passenger-side tire blew out. I later looked up the vehicle safety report on this model and I see that it received a "poor" under the "headlights" section of the iihs website. . Read more...

11 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

The low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and failed to safely illuminate the street ahead of you. This creates a very dangerous situation when driving at night, while raining, or under any low visibility conditions since you are not able to see objects, even worst, pedestrians in the path of travel. This issue has been present since I bought the car (brand new), but became a real serious and safety hazard between 15k-20k miles. Unfortunately, I have to constantly drive with the high beams at night leaving other drivers with a partial blindness; which I consider it unfair and unsafe, too. Sometimes, when I switch to low for an oncoming vehicle, I suddenly find myself driving completely without sufficient light. My eyes become partially blind due to the change in light intensity. As a safety professional in the aviation industry, I hope that Nissan and NHTSA do something sooner, because tomorrow might be too late.

12 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 04/30/2013

I have a bad rattle coming from the right side of my car along with a whine noise coming from the same area. Also have a very bad vibration/rattle in the car that seems to be from the transmission at acceleration from a start and acceleration while switching lanes on a city street. You can coast and press the gas again and then the whole car rattles. It has been in to a Nissan dealership and they said they can feel it but don't know where or what is causing it. Also headlights give very very poor visibility when driving at night and when raining at night.

13 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

1) the low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and distance. The lights barely illuminate about 2 car lengths ahead, which is too short a distance at speeds above 25-30mph, making highway travel at night very dangerous. Objects in the path of travel and on the side of the road are not visible in time to safely respond. Street signs and turns are nearly impossible to identify if they are not near street lights. This issue has been present since buying the car, which has been to the dealer multiple times for adjustment, but they insist that the lights are set within specs. The high beams provide excellent lighting, but when switched to low for an oncoming vehicle, I am suddenly driving without sufficient light. This is such a frightening problem that I prefer not to drive this car at night. I can't believe that these lights meet safety standards. 2) the passenger side air bag light often indicates that the bag is not activated even when there is an adult sitting in the seat. This was supposedly repaired in a recall 5/2014, but continues to happen. The dealer says "don't worry about it," that the bag will deploy if needed. I have no way of knowing if that is the case and I believe this is a safety concern.

14 Headlight Switch problem of the 2012 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

Light in the glovebox doesnot have a switch. It turns on as soon as the headlights are turned on. My glovebox was full of some paper and I opened the glove box to fin dhte papers became very hot to touch and I felt like they would burn any moment. A switch should be included so that the light turns on only when the glove compartment is opened. Any cloth of easily flammable material can catch fire due to heat and go unnoticed.

15 Headlight Switch problem of the 2011 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

When driver attempted to start vehicle, all warning lights came on, all interior lights and headlamps & running lights came on, and vehicle became totally unresponsive, stranding driver & running down battery due to inability to turn any lights off or turn vehicle off. No controls related to electrical system were controllable. Some examples include: 1. Power door lock switches did not function (no effect from pressing). 2. Power window switches did not function (no effect from pressing). 3. Pressing the vehicle power / ignition button (modern equivalent of starting key switch) did not have any effect, whether short or long duration presses were used, and regardless of delay between key presses. 4. Headlights & running lights were on regardless of the switch position of the headlight control switch. This resulted in the driver being stranded. Because the vehicle's lighting would not turn off, the battery ran down, disabling the vehicle further. Vehicle was towed to a Nissan dealer. Nissan serviceman initially refused to write the customer problem description as per the customer description of the problem. Later, customer called back to the dealership to request the customer description include specific and correct information already provided by the customer such as vehicle was "completely unresponsive while all the warning light came [remained turned] on the vehicle. Doors would not lock or unlock. ", the dealer reported that the service technician found TSB ntb12-041. Dealer record reads: "reprogrammed [sic] bcm update as per TSB. Vehicle is now operating as designed [sic] after update. " vehicle has functioned normally since.
